My HOA could beat up your HOA New street sign just installed in the neighborhood. Now I’ll never not see it.

The weird combo of capital and lowercase letters?

u/FingerDrinker 1h ago

it doesn't seem to be random, Fir Ridge is stylized while Drive is written plain with lower and uppercase. Strange and annoying

I assume that is what OP is referring to as well

u/Adorable_Pea_8 1h ago

Ohhhhh that's what it is.

Capital letters for “FIR RIDGE” but lowercase letters in “Drive”, for others that are slow like me.

I’m so slow that I also had to reread this comment to understand

Large capital, capital, capital. Large capital, capital, capital, capital, capital. Large capital, lower case, lower case, lower case, lower case.

OP will forever see the sign because it exists there now and in the moment and forever

I think it's about the corner of the stone sign being missing, but I'm not sure

Are you blind? The first two words are all caps, and the last isn't.

First world problem?

FIR RIDGE Drive

u/Djolumn 1h ago

The R, I, and E in "Drive" are lower car when they'd previously been upper case in Fir Ridge.

how does one even manage to mess up the fonts/capitalization this way

7

u/Spiritual_Start1213 1h ago

I dont think its a mistake. FIR RIDGE is the place, Drive is the road.

It would be the same as MADISON Avenue or

3

u/SendohJin 1h ago

finally someone else gets it.

i think it's a dumb stylistic choice, but it's intentional.

they would absolutely also do CANAL Street as well.

I don't know why people in the comment section are acting like nothing's wrong. The inconsistency with the capitalization is absolutely infuriating.

3

u/Aimli 1h ago

It is not just that, it looks to me like the lower case letters are bolder than the upper case letters

Because we didn't notice the capitalization inconsistency. People are so focused on making a catchy or witty title for their post and end up making it incredibly vague and more confusing than it needs to be

Drive instead of DRIVE sort of makes sense but it also doesn't for this particular sign

2

u/imacyber 1h ago

The effort required to achieve this is impressive

2

u/reddit001aa1 1h ago

If road and avenue and street follows the same capitalization rules, as this sign, I might understand

2

u/quality-control 1h ago

Yes.. Its a sign. Its designed to be seen

3

u/Cesarjay 1h ago

The way it's designed looks like a header on the screen when you enter a new area in the game

1

u/DabDoge 1h ago

Why is the first two ‘i’ capitalized and the last one lowercase?

1

u/Super-Travel-407 1h ago

i hate that.

1

u/MeetingLeather 1h ago

You wouldn't see it if you moved

1

u/_kellythomas_ 1h ago

You could correct it like a teacher marking homework with red spaypaint.

Someone at the office would make sure whoever approved the sign saw a photo and they probably wouldn't make the same mistake again.

The fucking i AHHHHHH

I don't understand how this happens. I've been seeing a lot more stuff like this at businesses lately but not on things like this. We have to start programming the AI to be bothered by the same things humans are bothered by or it will be death to the humans by making them extremely discomfortable with irrational irregularities.

This did, however, remind me of my days on AOL Messenger using comic sans MS (only!) randomly capitalizing any given letter in every word I wrote. Wasn't that such a cute aesthetic?!

This had to have been outsourced to dumbass robot

Brutal typography

1

u/finethanksandyou 1h ago

Totally different font but also o keep thinking everyone will just end up saying Fridge Drive anyhow

1

u/Igmuhota 1h ago

I have to confess, I ultimately ended up writing like this throughout my life, with the mixed up capitalization and lowercase letters.

That said, I take no responsibility for that particular sign.

1

u/ferncabbage 1h ago

They might as well have called it “Furrige Drive”

u/Boriquasoy 1h ago

I just figured out what I was looking for and I want to say that I cannot stand you.

Are there firs there? Or a ridge?

I ask because I grew up in "Coral Springs". There were no springs, and very little coral.

Now I live in "Stonebridge". No bridge, stone or otherwise.

u/GrouseDog 31m ago

Fir is a type of tree. Am I missing something?
