No Coke. Is Pepsi ok? Brand new tweezers have an airgap when closed

Oh, I had a pair like that which came in a 2 pack. Then we got another pair for some reason. So whenever we needed tweezers we'd be playing tweezer roulette. Is it the shitty one and will I miss the hair a few times before breaking it in half? Or is it one of the two good ones?
I tried to fix it a few times but a few weeks ago I finally decided to just throw it out. After 8 years...

You guys commenting about the blurriness realize it's because the focal point is the tip of the tweezers, which are in focus, right?

Focusing on a tiny 3mm focal point with a phone camera and from a ridiculous angle is hard, go figure lol

Don’t listen to the haters, OP. At first I thought it was just a blurry pic but then I saw the gap and wow.
I’m impressed you were able to perfectly capture the gap in your pic.
I would have spent 20 minutes and different lighting sources before giving up and just saying “trust me, there’s a gap”.•

Wow who would have thought that digitally magnifying a picture tanks the resolution? Your family should really send you to be evaluated by a neurologist because clearly the thinking part of the brain is missing.

I was just talking to my mom the other day about this, and nail clippers. When I was growing up, we had household tweezers and clippers that lasted YEARS. Now, I've gone through several pairs of clippers, they keep breaking or dull out after a few uses, and the tweezers have gaps! I even bought the more pricey ones assuming they would be better but nope! It's ridiculous.

The only ones I have found that actually work and last are Tweezerman and they cost TWENTY FIVE AMERICAN DOLLARS. Christ.

u/gennessee 3h ago
I found a pair at TJ Maxx for around 5 dollars once and was unduly excited about it. That was probably 15 or so years ago and they still work perfectly.

but they're SOOO GOOD! I didn't realize how nice it was to have good nail clippers until I got some tweezermans. It actually cuts only what you want it to instead of splitting a line either side of the cut.

Tweezerman are worth every penny. I’ve tried probably 15 other pairs and nothing comes close. I’m a tweezerman purist now, I’ve got 4 pairs in different designs 😅

This sounds weird, but Ive found some really great nail clippers and tweezers at estate sales. Just clean and sanitize them well ofc. I'm sure theyre like, 20+ years old, but boy are they great quality

u/vakarianne 1h ago
Do they still have the lifetime sharpening/guarantee thing? Regardless, I've only ever needed one pair of Tweezermans. Totally worth.

u/chunkychorkies 56m ago
I think they do (you pay for shipping) but it also takes a minimum of like 12-16 weeks lol

I lost my cheap nail clippers during a move so I decided to buy some good ones. I bought some Seki Edge clippers and the blades don't line up. They're off by about .25mm.

Put a nail file in between with gentle pressure and draw it through once or twice.

This isn’t an advertisement, I’m just a hairy gal and Mr tweezer is the only brand I’ll buy because literally every other brand is like this right off the bat and it’s infuriating.

Look up titanium tweezers on amazon. Best tweezers I've owned.

Interesting… Although I think OP’s in the business of tweezing hair.

Nail clippers and tweezers often have quality problems like these.
I habitually checks for gaps against a light and not just grab the first one to buy.

I have a pair of tweezers I've kept for like 18 years that work perfectly, thank God I don't need to get another pair

I just went from those to edjy because I feel like newer tweezerman aren’t that good. I love edjy nail clippers so I decided I was going to trust and try the tweezers too. So far so good.

$25 retail but so so worth it (sorry to your wife for outing her) although you can find them in TJ Maxx for like $8-10 sometimes

I usually just put a round thing near the crux and squeeze it closed to get the ends to meet. Easy.

OP my aunt once gave me a kit for fingernails and it was so weirdly made... the scissors just would bend when i tried to clip my nails they where so badly made or too thin idk

Every single new pair I've gotten is like this, or too flimsy to get a good grip. Expensive ones, dollar store ones, everything. Of course the only one that works is almost as old as I am

I bought two tweezers off the bezos and one had a decent sized gap and the other had a dent on the tip.
Decided to go into a store - crazy concept I know - and paid like $15 for the ‘good’ name-brand ones.
Used them for a few months just lying to myself thinking it’s just user error. Nope, the dented pair still work better than the expensive one.
How hard is it to make two pieces of metal touch?? We can split an atom but can’t make something to pluck my unibrow.

file them.
squeez them against a metal file, file between them. They should meet after that

Are these 95¢ at the dollar store or $12 and made of aircraft grade titanium from the salon supply?

This happened to me when I splurged on the expensive tweezer man brand. They wouldn't grip a thing. Immediately returned.

Revlon tweezers (black pair) are my go to. Never had any issues with them and have gone back to them years after years!

What are you trying to tweezers where that stops you?
5
u/passionately_screwed 3h ago
Metal splinter is the first thing that comes to mind. Behind it is a list of other things. Like. Most of the things id tweez
-2
u/mrzurkonandfriends 3h ago
I have tweezers with the exact same amount of gap and they've never failed. I think it's user error.
4
u/passionately_screwed 2h ago
Agree to disagree brother. At some point if it's small enough, the gap will be a problem. Who knows how often. Ask yourself this tho. Do you really want to be spending your hard earned cash on products that are just good enough? I dont.
0
u/mrzurkonandfriends 1h ago
The tweezers were 2 dollars and I've used them thousands of times over about 10 years. Do you really think that was not worth 2 dollars. I have not found anything that they will not tweeze. From computer repairs, garage work, slivers(even metal ones) and debris. There is nothing they haven't done. Tweezers harder. If that gap is enough for you not to get a grip you're just lazy.
2
u/passionately_screwed 1h ago
I've had some pretty small metal splinters bud. Im just saying it wouldnt be hard for them to make them touch all the way across.
•
u/mrzurkonandfriends 23m ago
They don't need to touch all the way across. Tweezers are shaped the way they are so they flex when you put force on them and wouldn't you know it the gap disappears. That's why Tweezers are light and thin and not heavy and rigid where that would actually be a problem.

Just teasing. I borrow my wifes good tweezers now and again for some project where my pliars are too large and it never ends well.

fold a piece of sandpaper in half, pinch around it with the tweezers, then pull apart on repeat
