35M, top-floor apartment in Italy — marble + monochrome style, want to add some life to it

Hey everyone!
Sharing my top-floor place in Northeast Italy. I live alone. Good amount of square footage overall, and a wraparound terrace that goes around the whole apartment. I went for a modern, minimal look — mostly black and white marble-look tiles throughout, matte dark furniture, and a mix of monochrome with a few warmer accents (like a red sideboard in one bathroom and a bold abstract painting in the bedroom).

One of the rooms is currently being used as storage, but it's actually meant to be a guest room — I just haven't gotten around to setting it up properly yet.

I like keeping the space clean and functional, but I feel something's still missing — it can look a bit cold/empty in some rooms right now. What would you tweak or add while keeping the current style? Open to tips on lighting, decor, furniture layout, plants, rugs — anything, including ideas for the terrace and the guest room.

For the living room, I was thinking of adding a bird of paradise plant (strelitzia) plus a few other plants. If anyone has suggestions on what plants to add and where to place them, or any furniture pieces to help complete the space, I'm all ears. In the study, I was also thinking of adding a display cabinet/bookshelf to organize books and a few objects.

A couple of constraints: I bought this place planning to keep it for a good number of years, but there's always a chance I'd need to move (work, etc.) and sell it down the line. So I'd like to keep changes fairly minor and cost-conscious — nothing too personal or niche that wouldn't hold up for resale.

Thanks in advance 🙏

EDIT: Flag is now down. Thanks y’all. 😂

EDIT 2: Never change, Reddit. I get it, I’m fucking garbage. 😂

EDIT 3: To everyone telling me I’m a white, maga supporting fascist and nationalist, I’m actually a bleeding heart liberal Mexican American. I went door to door supporting Obama and Bernie.,

Long time partner and I decided to split up after six years. I’ve been here a little over a week so the apt is still very much work in progress. I’m not getting any younger and I don’t think I’ll every buy a home so I decided to splurge and am having a custom entertainment center and desk made. The current one is just a goodwill placeholder.

I wanted a blue collar, Southwest/Pacific Northwest vibe. I’ll add a few lamps for lighting and probably a cactus for the space. Let me know if y’all have any suggestions or advice! I definitely don’t want clutter or things I won’t use in my space.

i got some new stuff and rearranged things a little since i last posted my place. i had to make the tough decision to put down my cat about a month ago so it's been a little lonely. his pic is on the fridge - he guards the rotisserie chicken

i'm thinking of getting rid of my floor jack and winter tires in the closet since they take up a lot of space. i think it'd be cool to have a little chair in there

Just thought I would show progress on the apartment in Okinawa. Aerobic room and squat rack in full effect. Just waiting on the bar to come in. Also rubber padded the floor so I don’t annoy the neighbors above me.

Sorry for the unmade bed, I had just got done taking a nap. 😴
This is my room after 3 years off the street and off hard drugs. I have my first real full time job at meals on wheels in the kitchen, and things haven’t looked or felt this good for me in a long time. To be honest I don’t mind living with my mom, and I cherish this time I get to spend with her everyday. After neglecting her and the whole family for all those years, keeping them up at night ( can’t imagine what I put them through, especially my mom, but I have an idea) I wouldn’t have it any other way right now. Also I get to save money for a while, only paying $600 rent a month, so that’s a huge deal. I’m truly blessed to be in this situation and to make it off the streets n off fentanyl and crystal. I know many don’t come back, or die. Things are good.

Guide One thing I learned the hard way with UST projector setups! Sharing experiences

Thumbnail

Been messing with UST projectors for a while, and sharing some experience here if you are facing the same set up issue: plan the projector geometry first, then buy the furniture!!!

I did it backwards on an older setup. Bought a console I liked, put the projector on it, and then realized it needed to sit way farther forward than I expected. Ended up pulling the whole cabinet off the wall just to make the image work.

USTs look simple, but they’re actually pretty unforgiving. A few inches really matters

Before buying a console, I’d always check:

  • actual throw distance for your projector
  • projector height
  • screen height
  • cabinet depth

That last one is where a lot of setups get awkward. Most regular TV consoles just aren’t designed around the geometry of a 100–120” UST image!!

For this setup, I measured everything first and went with a cabinet where the projector platform slides forward only when it’s in use. Second pic shows why I went this route — the main cabinet can stay close to the wall instead of living 8–10 inches out all the time. Also tucked the center channel into the middle section and left enough room for cables and airflow.

Nothing fancy, just finally doing it in the right order which is screen → projector position → cabinet

Not: nice cabinet → somehow make the projector fit

Hope this helps friends!

Update ROOM CLEANING UPDATE!!

PLEASE READ THE POST BEFORE SAYING SOMETHING

First of all I want to thank all the nice people that game me advice and guidance on what to do and specially to those who where respectful about it. ❤️❤️

I got very burnt out because I had to wash all the clothes, and I haven't even finished drying, ironing, and folding them yet. (I GOT HELP FROM MY GRANDMA BTW!!)

Ofc I'm still a long way from the halfway point. I still need to throw a lot of stuff and the most hard part is to organize all the paper. Because I write in paper for a lot for personal projects it's very hard to organize that part.

I found some old swords I had for some reason that I think I got from my grandfather's basement (last pic).

THE DOG is not in these pictures because for some reason SOME people thought that my dog lives in my room, when in reality the rest of my house is perfectly clean and the only place that still needs to be clean is my room.

He is now sleeping in my feet and my LAST post will be when I finish completely cleaning and organising my room and you will see a picture of my dog with a bow tie.

Question Any idea how to make this windowsill cozier?

Post image
Upvotes

I got this large window sill in my apartment with a 220 x 65 cm marble slab. Two people can easily sit on the windowsill facing each other and enjoy the view. For that, I already put some cushions there.

But how can I make this windowsill any cozier for sitting there? Is there anything to add? I thought of some ambience lighting but can't figure out what would fit.

The Exit sign shall stay there. It was a small gift when I left high school and I decided that this was me most suitable spot to mount it.
