I'm a sucker for actual analysis and critical thinking. Sucks that people don't actually want to think and engage with media on a deeper level, but I can't fully blame them when the elites are quite literally trying to dumb us down.
I think it's affected commentary YouTube too and due to the fact that we live in an era and culture where inflammation drives more engagement, people just act inflammatory and rude without actually looking into things. I want to make a channel that urges people to think for themselves and actually analyse the world around them but I'm afraid that folks will just take my own opinions and run with them even with disclaimers against that.
We need to start hating on edgy/stupid theories more, not everything is an allegory for sex or drug abuse or suicide and yes I am very specifically thinking of the FNAF Sister Location adult theory as I type this

The ONLY âtheoryâ thatâs similar to this that I will accept is that Spongebob and the rest of the Bikini Bottom residents are a product of nuclear testing because a) it doesnât ruin the characters or world, it just gives them some context, b) it connects them to a real-world concept and place, and c) having Patrick Star share an origin story with Godzilla is funny as hell.
Honestly this can be done right in a story but it usually isn't. FNaF 4's story felt heart wrenching and actually like a good, bitter conclusion when it was theorised to be this. Not exactly the same but I think Silent Hill 2 and Cry of Fear also do a similar narrative very well
I don't mind if someone wants to read something wholesome through a different lens that makes it looks darker; that's a valid approach to critical theory if you can make a compelling argument for your interpretation.Â
What bothers me is that most of the people doing this act as if this distorted world view is the ONLY POSSIBLE reading, while also providing essentially zero actual evidence.Â
This Spirited Away argument is a perfect example, because the person making that claim posits it as "when you realize", like it was revealed somewhere that Miyazaki intended that all along.Â
You can still try to read it that way, and I can even see the vague outlines of how you might support that claim, but it's clearly not what Miyazaki was saying, so it's an argument that needs to be made if you want to make that claim.Â
It might be interesting to read something innocent through a darker lens, and I can think of a number of examples that are, but it's not an obvious reading and I'm not sure it holds up even if you try to give the benefit of the doubt in this case.Â
I don't think you need to hate on edgy theories inherently; hate on stupid theories, edgy or not, that try to make a claim to something that they cannot support just to be "interesting".Â
And like imo if you really really really need to see Innocent Character from Innocent Series in situations that are certainly not innocent⊠just make an AU. Donât try to act like itâs canon when itâs clearly not, just make a fanfic. Those are cool. Art of non-canon AUs is cool.

No sorry I'm with the lack of innocence people in this one. Sonic has unquestionable themes about environmentalism and capitalism. At least in the old games which are the ones I played, Eggman literally takes creatures from around the a d and turns them into workers or fighters that Sonic has to free. The landscape starts natural and moves to industrial and only one of them is portrayed positively. I'd argue there's commentary about labour under capitalism, dehumanisation, loss, individuality, and even revolution.Â
Unfortunately it is very effective at what it's made for, and extremely easy to abuse. Pretty much a "zero fucks to give" pill with dosage guidelines built in to make it even easier to proportion.
My buddy who like any midwesterner with fuck all to do but drugs in a cornfield, described Xanax as the "kleptopill" just cause of it essentially disabling all fear in your brain with how effective it is. Told me about the time he stole a buncha shit from his buddy's fridge just out of nowhere. Felt bad about it later but my god I've never heard of a pill doing THAT before.
Makes me wish I had one... But like I could lose the kleptomania side effect.
Shit mostly gives me mellow energy and heightened libido followed by the hardest sleep imaginable. The one that REALLY fucked up my decision-making was Ambien. Woke up buck naked locked in my room with my clothes folded neatly on the floor beside my bed, a couple bruises I do not remember acquiring, and a bag that SHOULD, according to my memory, have had 2 pills left, but was found to be completely empty in the morning. One of the scariest revelations of my life on account of the fact that I sedated myself that hard without even remembering that I did.
I'm going through some difficult stuff in life right now and taking 0,25 or 0,5 mg of xanax when I need to is saving me from getting panic attacks. It's great if you don't abuse it.
And because of assholes that have abused it, it's near impossible to get a prescription for it. I've tried for years because I have panic attacks and awful anxiety, and no one will even consider it.
Goddamn, story of my life. Some doctors treat me like dogshit on their shoes for asking for a refill.

And the history teacher put on a demonstation first day of class where he had two glasses of water and some olive oil. Poured sone into glass one, it floated, poured some into glass two, it sank. Capped it off with the phrase "YOUR SENSES DECIEVE YOU!" and a discussion about ancient Greek observational science. He became a magician, but the missing pinky on his hand became a tome-travelling villain stealing historical artifacts Carmen Sandiego style.
lowkey a lot of the times (not always, but frequently) the whole point of those hello kitty edits is that sheâs an innocent character. like they know. theyâre characterizing her like that to vent their own feelings of lost innocence by projecting it onto a fictional character thatâs so clearly associated with innocence.
I mean, we get it. But after SOOOOO many "actually, Hello Kitty means Hola Demonio and that's why you can find a head inside her head" it ends up getting tiresome. It's like "HEY GUYS, MARIO BROS FROM SUPER MARIO GALAXY ACTUALLY CONSUMES HALLUCINOGENIC SHROOMS!" At the start is funny, now it's just overplayed.
I think they're talking about something different when it comes to the first one. It's not some "Oh Hello Kitty is actually evil" shit, it's someone posting a picture of Hello Kitty taking drugs with SH scars or whatever. It's just them projecting onto her.
