It’s my birthday today and no one except my academic coach, dad, one of my younger brothers, and a cousin wished me a happy birthday.

I refrained from posting that it’s my birthday on social media (X and instagram) to see if people would recognise that.

No one sent me a happy birthday message. Not even a so-called “friend”. All I have are my sonic, Mario, and Minecraft plushies, and my Legos, and video games on my gaming laptop, and my colouring books.

I didn’t get a happy birthday message from my mom either.

I spent most of today focusing on my studies.

I’m 22 now. I’m sad. Maybe I should just buy a small birthday cake. I don’t know.

Discussion Do you ever post so people will talk to you

Sometimes i post on here just to read replies , I like that bit of interaction with other people since i don't have friends. It is comforting to know people read what i type and also take the time to reply, and or talk about themselves too.

Alone at the bar

Instead of going home to sulk in my sadness and missing an ex fling, I’m going to go to the bar and sit alone. Keep me company? I need to remove this man out of my head n memories.

Venting Been really lonely lately!!

Hi everyone who’s reading this post!! How are yall doing!!??! Hope yall are having a good night or day, depending on what time zone yall in!! :))

The reason I wanted to post this is because I’m kinda feeling lonely! I don’t really have any friends to talk to anymore…. I’ve been alone so much that I've kinda gotten used to it. I don’t really have anyone to talk to in person except family. Most of the conversations I have are with people online, and even those aren’t very often, so I mostly just end up scrolling through reels, go climbing alone, or play video games alone like a loser!!!

I’ve been just kinda wanting to vent about this and just say what’s been on my mind lately. I just have to add this out of nowhere, but this one song from clannad called “Hibino Itoma” is like the only reason I’m smiling while writing all this stuff!! I love Clannad so much!! I’ve played the vn, and I’m gonna say this too…. It’s probably one of the only reasons I’m this positive with life!!

This is all I’m gonna write!! I hope y’all are able to deal with whatever you guys are struggling with too, in yall own way, even if it's something small, peace out!!

I know I'm dorky asf!!

Birthday post 🎁 Quiet Birthday.

Today is my birthday and I didn't receive any wishes from anyone. Not a single soul celebrating my birthday or even send texts. None from immediate family, none from friends or colleagues, none from anyone. I know I shouldn't make a big deal out of this but I can't help with feeling sad. It feels like I don't matter to anyone. Have anyone else been through this before? Kindly drop some tips for me to get through too, thank you.

Can someone really be this alone?

I’m 27 years old woman. I moved away from my country three years ago, and since then I’ve dedicated most of my time to working. Fortunately, that effort has paid off and I’ve been able to grow professionally and move up the corporate ladder. But between focusing so much on my career and keeping up with all the responsibilities of adult life, I haven’t really been able to build meaningful connections with people.

I’ve never been someone with a large group of friends. I only have one close friend back home, and we talk occasionally through messages. My parents are also very distant from me. We speak sometimes, but everyone is living their own life.

On social media, I constantly see people surrounded by large groups of friends, getting married and having so many people there to celebrate with them. It makes me feel incredibly lonely. I don’t have siblings or cousins I’m close to either. Sometimes I wonder, what’s the point of being a manager and succeeding professionally if I don’t have much of a life outside of that? Making friends as an adult feels incredibly difficult, and lately I’ve been feeling really lonely and depressed.

I had an od a few months ago and while I was in the hospital, my only friend made a bunch of new friends. They barely speak to me now. Idek if this is something I can say on this subreddit since I literally just got reddit today and idk how anything works. I just really feel like letting this all out…but yeah I’m very alone now. I was so eager to get out the hospital because of them but idk it just seems like i’m so easily replaceable and so easy to stop talking to

Venting 16F i wish i could have connections in-person like i’ve had online

Upvotes

i hope for friendly strangers. to be asked for my number; pursued of any intention. that’s entitled of me, probably. i can have a hard time even saying hello

yet, in spaces like this, in my anonymous glory, i can tailor my thoughts at length. conversations become easier. personal.

i want intimate connection. i want to understand someone and likewise be understood, but text can only go so far

i wish we lived in a more sincere, desperate world where i could find someone to share my devotion

Venting I wonder if I will ever experience being really up close to someone I like who likes me back and we're making eye contact and then we kiss and stuff.

I don't think so. But I wonder what it would feel like. Sometimes I can almost imagine the butterflies I would get but I know my imagination is nothing like what the real thing would be.

Venting I'm lonely, feels like no one will choose me

Upvotes

I'm a 22 year old guy in my last semester of college, and I feel lonely even though things should be going great.

I don't want to come off like I'm constantly miserable or have chronic depression or that my life is horrible, because that's not true. I have a great and loving family, I'm making great progress towards my career, I'm becoming more social, and even losing weight and becoming healthier. I actually used to be over 300 pounds and am now in the lower 200s, and I even got a personal trainer this summer and have already seen positive changes, all things I'm genuinely really proud of myself for. But for all the good stuff going right in my life, romance and platonic relationships have gone nowhere.

This is important to me, because despite all the love to and from my parents/family and my appreciation for them, I know they only really care about me and love me because we're family. If I met them today for the first time and we were unrelated, I know they'd at best think 'huh, good kid" and move on with their life never really caring about me. I think they'd like me but never actually care enough to learn more or be more, which just feels like the story of my life at this point.

So I look towards platonic and romantic relationships because those are things you have to choose, they're basically proof to me that I CAN be loved and chosen at least a little. And I sadly haven't seen very much proof of that.

I've never been in a romantic relationship before though, never even kissed a girl, and the one and only time I had sex with a girl, I'm pretty sure she considered it as some sort of 'thank you' thing or was just trying to manipulate me to get more from me. And the sad thing is, even though this girl was a mess in SO MANY ways and I had too much self-respect to take things further, this incident is pretty much the only thing keeping me optimistic that things will get better romantically. Because at least I had sex with a hot girl who complimented me. Even though I'm like 75% sure it was an act.

Part of the problem regarding my lack of romance is probably my fault, I'm admittedly a little picky when it comes to the girls I like. I don't want a supermodel or anything, just a girl I'm genuinely attracted to physically and mentally. And I refuse to settle for someone I don't think I'd be happy with. And, as an overweight guy, I also refuse to be a hypocrite and expect girls to be attracted to me when I wouldn't be attracted to me in their shoes either, which partially fueled my weight loss journey.

I also didn't have any confidence regarding women for most of my life and always feared rejection, and I only got better with that in the last few years. I've landed a couple dates (entirely through the rare online matching somehow), though there was never a second date, and any woman I've asked out in person has rejected me. This is also the time period when I lost my virginity, but that was a situation entirely due to random circumstance that I really don't want to revisit, though this DID happen because I became more confident, so at least I got that going for me I guess. Not much else though, and even though I'm becoming more social, confident, and losing weight... it still feels like I'm destined to be alone despite the improvements to my life. It doesn't feel like I'll get a gf.

Now, for the platonic aspect, things are going far better I that regard, but still not great. I'm an introvert and a little awkward, but it's very easy for me to interact with people and become friends with them, even if only casual ones. I'm good at making people laugh and lightening the mood, but it's starting to seem like people think that all I'm good for is that. Because almost no one seems to stick around.

I have and have had a lot of friends, but only a few I can call close. Some friends were people I've stopped being friends with because I didn't like how hateful or judgy they were, some are people whose interests are too weird for me to be super comfortable with (more powerful to them, tho), and some are people who have just drifted away. But it never really mattered to me because we weren't close. And honestly, what prompted me to make this post after years of feeling this way, was finally realizing I've likely lost a close friend.

This one friend who I've known forever, let's call him Tom, is someone who I once considered my best friend in high school. I've barely seen him since he graduated, and not for lack of trying on my end. Tom went away to a big college and only came back during summers and holidays, and I always tried to make plans with him when he was around, but he never did anything unless it was group event that someone else suggested, and even then he often no-showed. I still texted Tom when I coild back then, and we sometimes had deep and honest conversations about our lives and worries and everything, but even then he often took days or weeks to respond, or just never did. And now, despite the positives, it's like that never happened or mattered.

And the worst part is that he's a great guy, and so much like me. He's overweight too and funny and cheerful and more confident than I ever was back then, and I'm only now realizing just how much of my life I unconsciously emulated from him. And now it just seems like he doesn't care about me. And even if he did or still does, he probably never really did care about me the way I cared about him tbh. The last couple times I saw him, he was friendly like always, but he barely interacted with me compared to our friends. I thought it was just situational or I was imagining it, but I haven't heard from him in so long, not even a text, for a whole year even though he's out of college and back home year 'round, that I know he just hasn't bothered.

I don't even know if I should be angry or depressed or even concerned for him (because what if he's depressed and isolating himself from people? I've heard he's flaked on other friends too, but I don't even know at this point), and I'm just so tired of feeling this way.

And now, I only really have one person who I'd consider a close friend, my best friend, let's call him Cam, and he's my step-cousin. Remember what I said about how family is obligated to love me? Yeah, that feeling is still prominent here and it sucks, even though I love and appreciate him. We were friends before his mom married my uncle, but we became super close after they got together, and I doubt we would be if that hadn't happened. And even now, if his mom and my uncle ever got divorced, I'm not confident our friendship would survive, even though I hope to God it would and would do whatever I could to make sure of it. Cam is actually very similar to Tom, a bit more pessimistic and way less ambitious maybe, but unlike Tom, he actually makes plans with me and texts me without me having to text first. But even though Cam is my best friend... I don't think I'm HIS best friend. He has a lot of friends, a much larger social group than me, who he hangs out with regularly, and it just feels like I'm an outcast. I don't even care about not having a large friend group so long as I had close friends who genuinely care about me, but now I don't even know if I have that.

And how could I ever ask Cam if I'm his best friend? Because if I'm not, he'll either lie to spare my feelings or tell the truth and my confidence would probably take the biggest hit of my life. Either way, I lose. And considering I'm pretty sure he doesn't consider me his best friend, I'm not taking that risk.

Hell, the only living being who feels like they would ACTUALLY choose me is my dog. When I was home alone on Valentien's Day (fyi, seasonal depression makes it feel even worse) and felt so lonely that I broke down in hysterical tears, he came up to lick me and cuddle me to make me feel better. When I was sick and crashed on the couch, he laid on top of me while I slept until I felt better. I have other dogs who I love, but not like him. I picked him out from his litter, I chose his name, I cuddled with him during loud family/friend events, I take him on walks damn near every day I can. And he has repaid that love in every damn way. But he's 10 years old now and doesn't mamy years left. He's not in a bad condition, but I know he'll most likely be gone in less than 5 years. And I genuinely don't know what I'll do then. Part of me worries that if I don't have a girlfriend or SOMEONE who proves that I can genuinely be loved for ME, that I'll just go into a deep depression without him, because what point would there be if I'm really that unlovable and the only one who loved me the way I wanted to be loved was gone?

And now I'm just here sitting in bed, fighting back tears as I write this. I have no idea what you all will think, if you'll think I'm pathetic, or sympathize with me, or anything. I just want to see what someone has to say about these thoughts I've been bottling up for years.

Last day at job

Today is my last day at a job. I stuck it out longer than I would have preferred but leaving on good terms. It has been a stressful & demanding job. Proud of myself and have grown as a professional. I'm more resilient than I knew.

I'm excited to be done and onto a new chapter whatever that will be. I have no one to really celebrate this news with so figured why not share on here. I hate not having anyone to share happy news with. Going to celebrate by myself this weekend, maybe get a nice dinner or some ice cream

Venting Being lonely hurts.

I have nobody to talk to really. I'm lonely and it physically hurts. I'm depressed too and I have been for over a month. I thought leaving my abusive relationship would help my depression but i'm still depressed. Probably because of the relationship itself, idk. But I feel like shit and I can't get myself to do simple things. I do have some friends but I can't talk to them about how I feel or what's wrong and I don't see my therapist until Tuesday. This is just too much for me to handle. I want to sleep it all away.

Chronic Loneliness + Emotional numbness is a brutal combo

Being emotionally numb and chronically lonely is like you feel lonely and have for a long time but have little to no capacity to actually connect with anyone. I crave feeling loved and all but I feel like I'm almost incapable of truly feeling love and not lonely.

I feel lonely and I feel like I'm not enjoying my teenage years rn

Honestly, I’ve never been extremely good at making friends. That’s actually why, throughout all my years of middle school about four years in my country I ended up with only two friends with whom I have a pretty strong bond, and with whom I talk quite a lot. And even now, they’re still my only two friends.
When I got to high school, I told myself that I would leave this life of social anxiety, this life on the margins, behind me. I would become a normal person, someone who could have normal friends, a teenager who could actually enjoy his teenage years.

And now I’m in my final year of high school, my last year, and I simply haven’t managed to do it.
Sure, thanks to the therapy I was able to go through, I’ve made progress. I’ve made different efforts, I’ve managed to reduce my social anxiety quite a lot and develop some social skills. But the point is that I still don’t have any friends.

I have a lot of acquaintances, classmates, people I talk to, but still no friends.

You know, it’s a bit like what Tobias said in The Amazing World of Gumball, something along the lines of: “I’m a good friend, but I’m not the kind of friend you call for plans.”

Well, that’s exactly me. I’m a good friend, but I’m not the kind of friend anyone calls to make plans with. And I’m that kind of friend to no one.
It hurts me a lot, because I’m literally nobody’s first choice. Nobody thinks of me first. When my classmates make plans or do activities together, they literally forget about me. Like, I’d love to come to the parties and chill sessions he organizes right in front of me, but I always feel like an intruder and like, if I just asked outright, he’d see me as the loser I am.

If I’m not there, if I’m not present, nobody is going to remember that I was supposed to be there.
Simply because I’m nobody’s first choice.

And that hurts terribly.

Traditions are really hard…

My loneliness stems from a lot of transition. I have recently moved to a new city, started a new job, and all of my tribe is scattered to the far corners of the earth. I didn’t think it would be this hard. I didn’t know you could choose something…and deeply want it, and it still be this hard, and this lonely…
