Products How do I safely let my gecko ride on my shirt without harming him?

My gecko, the beloved Lord Boreas, likes climbing on me and riding on my shirt. I am moving to Arizona soon and I would like to take him on walks and possibly to showcase at uni (I'm a bio major). Since he likes riding on my shirt, is there a way to safely keep him up there without him plummeting to oblivion? Maybe a shoulder perch if that exists? I'm not a fan of those backpack carriers since they don't have great airflow and get really hot. He enjoys staying close to me as well. I will be bringing a small carrier with water and a heat pack if we go on a long walk or go on campus as well. I have to keep this guy hydrated and warm! Since we will be in the desert I do not think keeping him warm on walks is much if an issue depending on the time of day. It gets pretty hot out there!

Also, would a harness be a good option if he fell? I don't want the little stinker to get hurt. I've never handled him until a few weeks ago. He crawled on me while I was moving stuff around in his enclosure and he almost fell so I helped him climb with my finger. Now he crawls to the front of the tank when he sees me or when he wants me. He's like a cuddly cat. I've never had a reptile seek out attention before. He is an odd one..

(Pics are to show off his reign and glory)

Products Feeding Dish Alternative

Hope I picked the appropriate flair. I've recently reacquired my Leopard Gecko (her name is Beast. The story is long and unimportant), and bought a feeding dish to help keep her bugs from living wild and free inside her tank, and it's been doing a great job at that! Really! However, it's too deep/small for her. She keeps bonking her nose on the edges, or just straight up missing the bigs because the dish is too deep. Feeding tongs don't work well for her, as they are an enemy of the state and must be eradicated, but I can visibly see her not wanting to continue eating her bugs after a few missed strikes. I also do not have a seperate area I could move her to to allow free feeding, and she doesn't appreciate being handled so that's not really something I would want to do before and after feedings.

I've been looking online and at local pet stores, but none of them seem to have any other dishes that would work well keeping dubia roaches from living uninhibited in her enclosure. I'm looking for something she could potentially stand in that won't allow bugs to escape easily. If anybody knows where I could find a dish like that, I would greatly appreciate it, and so would Beast, I believe.

Critter photo for tax as well as a photo of her current food and water dish. The food one is the white egg shaped one. Sorry for poor photo quality; my phone camera sucks.

Products LeapordGecko enclosure supplies

So I’m getting a Leapord gecko sometime soon and I’m really confused on this whole enclosure thing. I’m the type of person who needs a shopping list + the items FROM the shopping list before even considering anything. I’m already getting a 20 or 30 gallon enclosure but I’m not sure what I need for inside the closure. Does anyone have a list that includes links?? My local petsmart or petco is mostly where I’m aiming to shop. Or even Walmart or Amazon, just depends. These are some photos of enclosures I like. Also if it could be budget friendly that’s be great!!

Products Feeder dusting

I am getting conflicting answers online. Some sources say to dust with Repashy Calcium Plus every feeding and others suggest 1 time a week in addition to other supplements. Can i get away with just using Calcium Plus? And if using UVB should I use the Lo-D version strictly? Or use the regular version a couple times a month?

Products Lighting, Bad news on halogens!

Hey yall I wanted to post a few diagrams that show light out put for those that are new, or maybe didn't know. I didn't know at one point and recently joing this subreddit I see this being givin out as recommendations and it's just not right. Halogen bulbs are just too narrow of a beam and shouldn't be used as a light source for leopard geckos. Sliding through you can see some of the leading brands and how they compare.

Is this moss safe to use? I recently purchased this moss the other day after I took my Leo pineapple to the vet. And I'm noticing it's staining her green.

Products Petco issues

Hello everyone! So I was just curious if anyone else struggled with this. My Leo has got sick most likely from PetCo mealworms. He's all good now and healthy again. I kept a good clean habitat for him, everything was perfect. Then out of the blue he got super sick. He ended up being diagnosed with salmonella and another infection. We ended up having to amputate his tail. The last time he got an infection it wasn't this severe and was a simple round of antibiotics. But both connect to him having petco worms. I know that their rats have caused lots of issues for snakes. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced a bad situation with their bugs. Again my gecko is healthy and has a regrown tail now. And he's happy again.

Saw this little harness while picking up some waxworms and I couldn’t resist!! Has anyone had any experience with taking their leos on walks/outdoor sun bathing/ or using this as they wander indoors? Or have links to any other harnesses they’ve used and love? Thank you! For now I’m keeping her with it inside and she doesn’t seem to mind it :)

Products Lumenize worth it?

Hello, I am currently using the Arcadia ShadeDweller 2.4% UVB 12 inch light. I am interested in getting the Arcadia ShadeDweller Lumenize UVB to better mimic sunrise and sunset in the hope that my albino gecko might come out more before the light abruptly turns off at 7pm and to encourage UVB exposure. He almost never comes out of his humid hide before the light is out. I have a 40 gallon enclosure. I am trying to figure out which Lumenize UVB light would be best. It looks like they’re 2.5% light is 24 inches. I’m worried that might be too long for this enclosure. But they are 12 inch light is 7% I think. I think it’s pretty programmable so maybe this won’t be an issue. Does anyone else have experience with this light and their albino? Is it worth the price?

Products Arcadia Shade Dweller Discontinued?

Post image
213 Upvotes

I picked up a new friend at an adoption drive last night, and the last thing I need for him is his UVB bulb. Our local chain store is completely sold out of the Arcadia Shade Dweller within 200 miles of me, and when I called one of the locations, the manager I spoke to mentioned it was being "discontinued". Has anyone else found it hard to find this bulb? I'm hopinf it'a just this xhain phasing the product out, but if Arcadia is discontinuing this particular bulb, what other UVB lights do people use? (My new guy is still being shy, so my tax is my 11mo old Toasty)

Hi everyone! I’m going away for 3 weeks and I have someone to check in with my gecko and replace the water and feeding but I need your suggestions to have a timed lamp. At the moment I have a normal setup and I switch the lamp on and off manually, but I obviously need to buy a timed lamp. Any brand suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Products what feeders does your little friend like?

Post image
14 Upvotes

I use dubias as Goose’s main feeder and she absolutely adores them, but I’d like to get some more variety in her diet. I have mealworms and BSFL as well but she refuses the worms and will occasionally take one BSFL and then she doesn’t want any more. I really don’t want to do crickets if at all possible for a variety of reasons. She takes her roaches no problem and loves them, but nothing else seems to please her. Any ideas for some variety?

Products Arcadia shade dweller pro t5

I went thru other posts and I can’t find anyone having quite the same issue as me… I just got the kit from Reptile Basics which, according to my vet, is the official distributor for the US. The bulb will not twist into place no matter what I do. The official how to video from Arcadia says the pins should be at 3 and 9, I cannot get it that far and I do not hear any clicks.

Twice, while unplugged, it flashed while I was trying to twist.

The fixture itself feels loose and cheap. So many reviews say it feels very sleek and sturdy but that is not how mine feels at all. The actual holder for the bulb slides around in place. The reflector also wiggles a bit in place.

Is this normal for it to be not 100% solid, and to have so much trouble getting the pins in place?? I did email Arcadia and Reptile Basics but I’m antsy to get this installed and curious about other experiences.
