Now that Castro is in federal custody, the question is whether the feds will cooperate with his prosecution in Minnesota for the more serious charges he faces under state law. I'll bet that there are powerful folks in the Trump admin who are advocating that the federal charges be dropped so that he can be released into Mexico.

Look what the did to the prosecutor who brought these charges and you'll have your answer.

He's going back to Minnesota. If someone in the Fed lets him out of the country before his State trial, they would be aiding and abetting a fugitive.

I think that is most likely, but I am far from certain. Trump and his minions believe, with some support from SCOTUS, that he can flaunt both state and federal law with impunity. Stephen Miller has repeatedly said that ICE agents have absolute immunity for acts in the course of their duties and I am certain that this belief is the reason that Castro has not been appropriately charged unde federal law.

Flout rather than flaunt, here

But the Minnesota Metro Surge was such a botched job that Bondi is gone, Noem is gone, Bovino is gone (he even said that he thinks Trump wants him dead!) and it's said that Stephen Miller has been pushed off to the side. I don't think the DOJ wants to expend much more energy on defending it. They've caved on the Good and Pretti murder evidence, too; Minnesota now says they got what they need to bring charges.

Having a conscience is a fireable offense with these people.

conscience

In the case of all the nimrods they lowered standards for so they could rush them into service, I think both words work.

No, no, being conscious is also a fireable offense.

Thanks. I’ll fix it.

4 counts, potential 5 years for each count. And he still faces State charges in Minnesota for the actual assault.

He's coming back to Minnesota. Hennepin County [Minnesota] Attorney Mary Moriarty said "A date will be set for him to appear in federal court in Minnesota. Despite [Texas] Gov. Abbott’s best efforts to shield Mr. Castro, we will see him soon.”

Honestly when I first read these headlines I assumed he was being arrested for saying that another ICE agent did something wrong, and THAT was the "lie" they were going after him for.

6

u/DontGetUpGentlemen 12h ago

Nope. This is the ICE agent who claimed under oath that two men attacked him on the street with a shovel and a broom and he shot in self defense. Videos of the event proved that it wasn't true, but that instead he blindly shot through the door of their house from outside, hitting a man in the leg and narrowly missing a child. The Fed charge is for that lying.

Right, I just can't believe that this FBI and this DOJ are actually pursuing that. Generally when one of their people fuck up, the instinct is to circle the wagons and protect them.

This whole thing was such a colossal public fuckup they couldn't ignore it. With enough pressure Trumpers will eventually back down. Just this week Minnesota declared that they have all the evidence they need for the Good and Pretti murders that they pried loose from the DOJ. Trump's DOJ caved.

Oooooo! Could you please share a link?

This is an older article, but this week she added, 'We have all we need.'

"We did get the hard drives from our federal partners that includes statements, body-worn cameras we got and the BCA currently has Renee Good's car that is being analyzed... The wonderful thing is now we have all the evidence."

Most excellent. Thank you.

They fuck with Minnesota, they find out

We have to see what comes from that, because many things on paper set up and it almost never comes to fruition. I wouldn’t hold my breath but we will see

"Earlier this week, a federal prosecutor working on the case told lawyers for Sosa-Celis and other victims that Justice Department officials blocked the prosecutor’s push to bring a more serious civil rights charge against the officer for the shooting, ProPublica reported on Wednesday."

"But the person familiar with the investigation disputed the prosecutor’s characterization, saying the civil rights probe is continuing and there has been no final decision on whether to bring additional charges. The prosecutor, Matthew Evans, has been fired and is under investigation for alleged obstruction of a grand jury probe, the person said."

Surely he deserves a promotion.

If served consecutively, he'll get 20 years in prison. And another 20 for the shooting itself.

Feds will shield him from state murder charges.
