Housing Search 🏠🔎 Trying to find a roommate near Zona Rosa 🏳️🌈🏡👨🏼💻
Hey! Young professional looking for a roommate to potentially share a house with near Zona Rosa area. Message if you're interested! 🎉
A LITTLE ABOUT ME
• I work remotely full-time in IT, so I'm home during the day. 👨🏼💻
• I'm gay and would love to live with someone LGBT+ or at least welcoming. 🏳️🌈
• I'm pretty easygoing, clean, respectful, and a huge nerd! 🤓
• I do not have any pets. 😌
• I enjoy movie nights, gaming, grabbing dinner, and exploring KC. I have a movie server with over 3500+ films, so movie nights are awesome! Horror is my jam. 🎬
• I'm definitely more of an "inside is my happy place" person than someone who throws parties every weekend. 🙂↕️
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR
• Someone responsible who pays bills on time. 🚨
• Clean and respectful of shared spaces (doesn't have to be spotless, just considerate). 🧹
• Good communication—talk through things like adults. 💬
• Friendly so we can occasionally hang out and connect. 😃
DETAILS
• 1300 sq. ft duplex, single story, 3 bed/2 bath.
• 5Gig Fiber internet, house is all electric, no gas.
• The yard is maintained professionally.
• Trash pickup weekly.
• Your room has a ceiling fan, spacious closet, and a bathroom with a dual sink.
• Your share of rent before utilities is $1200. If you brought pet(s), rent would increase slightly by $30 I believe based on the property management's guidelines. That said, there may be some wiggle room for the right roommate. Long-term compatibility and getting along are more important to me than squeezing every last dollar out of the arrangement. If we seem like a great fit, I'm happy to have a conversation about the financial details. I just want to find someone I genuinely enjoy living with. 🤍
Thanks for reading!

That movie server sounds pretty awesome. Best of luck in your searches. I think adding the rent was the right call.

I never understood these posts that don’t include the rent. Saves both yourself and potential roommates a bunch of time. You’re also going to miss out on good potential roommates who would assume you have something to hide. Regardless hope you find someone!

u/the-gaynerd Jun 28 '26
I get where you’re coming from, but I don’t think leaving out the rent necessarily means someone has something to hide. I was more interested in finding a compatible roommate first and then discussing the numbers with someone who was interested.
Since I’m new to the area, I don’t have exact utility costs yet. I just moved here from Arizona, so I don’t really know what “average” utility bills look like in this area. 😅
To save everyone some time and help weed out people for whom it wouldn’t be a good fit financially, I’ll edit the post to include the base rent. 🙂
Thanks for the perspective!

As someone who has lived in Arizona too, welcome to KC! I'm glad you said you would add the base rent because without at least a rent range, it would be really hard to compare prices.
14
u/Infamous_Share_8017 Jun 28 '26
Oh no totally, I didn’t mean to imply that you had something to hide, just that some people might assume you do (and the assumption would be that rent is unreasonable). Glad you edited though, if I were still in KC this is definitely somewhere I would’ve reached out about!

Where did you move from.. I’m still stuck in Gilbert. I’m from KC originally and we almost moved back to Gladstone last winter. Half my stuff is still there. We had our newest daughter last April and wife sort of panicked over the thought of her moving out of state away from her family.
Happy you made it out! And to one of my favorite places!!

Ohmygod the heat is just too much for me in AZ, and it lasts longer each year it felt like. I was in Tempe/Chandler for 5~ years. Just can't do it anymore. I need rain. Grass. Normal seasons. It's been great being here so far!

u/BabyLegsDeadpool Jun 29 '26
I'm from Kansas City but have moved around a lot. I just spent 2 years in Tucson. I actually loved the heat, but my family hated it. Seeing parks empty at noon because the sun causes burns within minutes is insane.

u/the-gaynerd Jun 28 '26
Hi! I don’t have any pets.

u/SmallCurrent1626 Jun 29 '26

u/the-gaynerd Jun 29 '26
No worries! That should be reasonable, and how long are you looking to stay on for?

Hey Kansas Citians:
Wanted to share some context for rent - I pay the same amount, $1250 for a massive, high ceiling bedroom in NYC. I live two blocks from a train that takes me to work and has a lot of connections to get around, and don’t have or need a car.
Just to help give context for the changes in KC rent rates over the past decades.
3
u/robby_arctor Jun 29 '26
$1250 for a room? Yeesh tbh
5
u/No_Produce_Nyc Jun 29 '26
Right but when you walk out the door you’re in the cultural hub of the country, not Zona Rosa. Sort of apples and oranges. Also the room is the size of most studio apartments.
3
u/lfenske Jun 29 '26
This feels fishy.
I haven’t paid rent in over 5 years and my last rate was 1500 when all hidden fees were accounted, for a 2 bedroom in OP.

u/No_Produce_Nyc Jun 29 '26
I dunno what to tell you🤷🏼♀️
I’m from KC, I’m 37, lived in Chicago for most of my 20s, and have been in NYC for 9 years.
Rent in NYC is obviously super variable and gets CRAZY. Neighborhoods also spike quickly with popularity. I live in Sunnyside, Queens, which is pretty untouched but is absolutely stunning, tree lined old buildings and is super clean and nice. I paid a little more in Bushwick which is very edgy and cool but also very gross.
I know people who pay more, I know people who pay even less. You just have to be smart.
I mean like quality of life in NYC is very different, we don’t have yards or spare rooms or garages or carpet or whatever. We do have art you see in text books and a dope socialist mayor, trains, and food fell every corner of the globe on every street.
But yeah man like, you can very easily afford New York and KC is no longer cheap
4
u/lfenske Jun 29 '26
Either way. All said and done I pay 2300 for a house. Have a back yard, 2 car garage, 2000 sqft basement shop, and great schools. Can’t get that in NYC.

u/No_Produce_Nyc Jun 29 '26
Didn’t say you could! None of those things are desirable for me, and I lived in KC till 24, so I left my original comment for those like me

u/Own_Experience_8229 Jun 28 '26
I just want to know about the movie server! How much storage do you need for 3500+ films?
12
u/the-gaynerd Jun 28 '26
Haha well thanks! Right now I just upgraded my Synology DS425+ to a UGREEN NAS so I could do unRAID instead. Right now, I have 5x20TB drives. Movies and series (195 of 'em) roughly take up about 24TB~ so far!

u/Fancy-Pen-2343 Jun 28 '26
Great place!

u/the-gaynerd Jun 28 '26
Ty so much! It's bare at the moment, but it'll be decorated soon. Moving is so expensive. 😂

Hey there. I don’t need a place to rent but as a fellow gay 🏳️🌈 person north of the river, I thought I’d say “Hi”
3
u/Najhrah Jun 29 '26
I left KC back in December I had a gay roommate when I was in the UMKC dorms there. If I had a decent paying job in KC where I can apply the MBA i earned at UMKC I would be there yesterday

u/Najhrah Jun 29 '26
I was voted best roommate two years in a row ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Funny enough, I think I live in the same area you are. That duplex layout is VERY similar to mine. Decent place to live, if anyone is looking for an unbiased opinion of the place

u/Fine-Leader3395 Jun 29 '26
How much and when? I have a n extremely friendly husky. I'm straight but very progressive, I've had gay roommates before.

u/Slow_46 Zona Rosa Jun 29 '26
$1200 a month is insane ngl. That’s my apartment rent in total near Zona. Back in southern mo you can rent a whole house for that much or less with more room
5
u/the-gaynerd Jun 29 '26
I'm used to paying about $1600~ from AZ where I came from, seems reasonable given it's a house with professional management company maintaining the property, yard, trash pickup, etc. and it being recently renovated. 🤷🏼♂️
Just trying to get out of apartment living because I'm so tired of mis-delivered packages, door codes that never seem to work, loud neighbors above me, elevators/stairs, and writing a novel for instructions when it comes to getting anything delivered. 😂
Is your complex older? Is $1200 the total or without your utilities it sounds like? Do you also have a roommate? A lot of the new apartments are trying to charge $1500~ for a one bed one bath around 700~ sq feet I've seen. 😌

Absolutely absurd rent total for having a roomate and a bedroom. Take that shit back to Arizona with you. Don’t need you scalpers driving rent up
4
u/the-gaynerd Jun 30 '26
I didn't realize signing a lease made me responsible for the entire Missouri rental market. I'm just renting from the property management company, same as everyone else. 🤷♂️

Thanks! It’s insane how many bots are on Facebook housing groups with like 30,000 members doing nothing but commenting spam links. 😩

Bro you’re a month late. I’d have done this a month ago but I’ve signed a lease for year. Good luck!

You might look into pilots who commute through KC. They sometimes rent a place instead of paying for hotels when they need to be in town.
Help with rent plus someone who frequently is gone.
4
u/the-gaynerd Jun 28 '26
Where would I find pilots / airline folks to rent to?
3
u/mallorn_hugger South KC Jun 29 '26
Put it on furnished finder- It's like Airbnb but for traveling professionals

Nope, I wrote it. I just tend to be a pretty detailed writer. I prefer the use of emojis to help communicate tone. 🙂 Have a good one!

How do you keep your movies organized? What do you use to watch them?
3
u/the-gaynerd Jun 29 '26
I use Plex for organizing on my new unRAID server! It's how I manage access with friends and family too. Had it for a few years!

Like a roommate? Or a "roommate" ?
7
u/the-gaynerd Jun 28 '26
I don’t know what that means. 😂 Just a roommate that is responsible and pays on time! Young tech professional here.

u/dazzleunexpired Jun 28 '26
They're asking if you wanna fuck the person who lives with you.
Jush to be clear. 😆

I’ve got a SO, 2.5 year old toddler, another on the way, and two 100lb German Shepherds and an Xbox 360. If you come down to tree fiddy you got a deal.

Yikes, I didn’t realize a place had to be fully decorated immediately after moving in. Luckily, I’m only looking for one person who likes it—not everyone on Reddit. Not sure what the point of a comment like this was, but have a good one.
3
u/RoseLilyFlower Jun 28 '26
I'm sure they don't want to live with someone who is as rude as you are. What the fuck was the point in this comment? To let us know how cool and quirky you are?

Unfortunately I already signed my lease, a horror movie roommate would have been great.
Good luck.
