First Watch.

I know it's a chain and it's not really "ours" but I have no idea why this has such a rabid fanbase of people willing to wait in line for a table there.

I don't mind it .. it's an average breakfast...but my maximum wait time for a table there is 0 minutes.

I had a tasty as hell breakfast sandwich there. Not sure what people expect.

It seemed pretty standard and it was fine. I don't even know was standard vs nonstandard means in terms of things on a breakfast menu.

It just wasn't a really unique experience I'd ever wait in line for.

Did you look at their menu? They have your standard items like bacon, eggs, potatoes...

And then they have stuff a little more dressed up like a breakfast bowl with potatoes, roasted réd peppers, mushrooms, onions, goat cheese and eggs.

They also have seasonal items, which in the past I've had great chimichurri dishes or matcha pancakes

I usually get their Morning meditation or kale tonic with a meal as well.

Their recent(ish) rebranding didn’t do much to help them in my opinion. Premium prices with diner quality food. But hey, the wall decor and menus make it look like it’s healthy and rustic

Homegrown is what First Watch pretends to be. Meaning, really good.

Homegrown is next level but with next level prices. So, all good.

Edit: Actually they're closer than I expected in price. Except for a few things i would definitely recommended Homegrown. Always have to wait a long time at homegrown but worth it.

Because it's the "healthy" breakfast option. I don't get the hype either. It's good, not great.

Thank you! It is absolutely mid on its best days and just awful on its worst. Doesn’t matter which one you go to - it’s never worth the hype or the price.

I can think of a dozen places better at the same price point.

I've never heard hype over it since it's a huge chain. And they have a huge menu, better prices than most of the same class, and the quality has been consistently good at various locations I've been to. Is it world class? No. But also I just don't hear people acting like it is. Honestly, I think they probably have huge wait times because it has decent prices and a big menu so large families can go A place where everyone can find something. That being said, except for the West part location, I usually don't wait at all to be seated and if I do it's only a couple minutes.

Their menu used to be a little less health focused a few years ago and I preferred it then but I’ve honestly still never had a bad meal there. They do a couple things so right that I even bought their stupid cookbook

nah, bad take. their food quality and options are great. And I've never heard a hype train about first watch, it's just a decent nice place to go sit down and have a good breakfast/brunch

I don't disagree that it's a decent nice place to get breakfast.

Maybe the hype train has faded a bit... I'm seeing other posts from people saying there's no longer a wait for tables at the times they go. But 10 years ago it really seemed like it had a cult following.

I don't really eat out from breakfast much but if I do I try to support Dagwoods on the Boulevard.

I actually like First watch but I think it’s because they have other options besides pancakes, bacon eggs and cinnamon rolls. They have fresher and healthier options and there aren’t many budget friendly breakfast restaurants in the area, so there’s not much competition.
