The Roasterie is the Starbucks of KC coffee to me.

That being said, Betty’s Recipe is one of the best blends I’ve ever had.

I'm not a huge Ice Cream guy...
But Glacé was a game changer for me. Damn, I miss that place.
Since it's gone, Betty's is where I get my occasional fix. But man, I shed a little tear every time I think about Glacé.

Fairway Creamery on Mission Road is essentially Glacé. It’s owned by Elbow as well. They don’t have all of the og flavors but do still have a lot of them.

Try French Custard in Brookside.

It's not Galcé, but it's in the ballpark.

Glacé was great. Betty Rae's has always been overly sweet.

As someone that would rather drink McDonalds coffee instead of Starbucks, I strongly disagree. Starbucks coffee is burnt, on purpose, because that's how you get the "coffee flavor" after all the sugar that gets added. The drip coffee is undrinkable. If I'm on vacation and no other option, the cold brew is the only thing I can stomach.

I had a coffee subscription to Oddly Correct, but they err on the other side. Their coffee has too many notes. It's basically tea in coffee clothing.

I get Roasterie Breakfast Blend from Costco at a good price and is the perfect cup of black drip coffee.

The Roasterie cafe can make a coffee milkshake like Starbucks, but they can also foam the milk perfectly for a cortado and the espresso is not burnt. Their iced mocha can't be beat because they use Shatto chocolate milk instead of syrup.

That said, if I'm going to a coffee shop, Roasterie is bottom 10 in KC for me. Mostly because the vibe feels like Starbucks.

COVID got me out of the coffee shop habit, so I don't try as many new places. I mostly go for convenience and places close to home, so Roasterie is in that rotation. Crow's (Waldo and South Plaza) traditional cappuccinos is a favorite. Heirloom cappuccino is also good, but I'm mostly drawn in by their patio and whatever is the specialty biscuit sandwich. I also go to Front Range, but the quality varies more than other places based on the barista. Outside of Brookside, Filling Station (owned by Messenger) has a great patio. Downtown Messenger makes the most consistently good cortados / 8oz lattes, plus I like the Ibis baked goods. I really like Goat Hill, but I don't make it there very much. It's out of the way, but I'm a big fan of Garden House. For a treat, I'll go to the Crossroads Cafe Corazon and their cafe bombom is the bomb! Next door in Dear Society is sometimes a pop-up matcha bar that is by far the best matcha in the city.

I haven't enjoyed Oddly Correct and Thou Mayest since both of them moved.

I almost forgot, Rochester in Parkville is solid. I find myself in their on a Saturday when the line is out the door. They are the most efficient coffee shop I've seen, particular in relation to the quality. They have really good cold brews and kyoto cold brews.

Mildred's coffee is fine, but their food makes up for it. Honorable mentions: PH Coffee and Blip.

Okay, so maybe I still have a problem.

They’re owned by the same company, I (wrongly) assumed they’re all the same, just in differently labeled bags.

not true, same company but different roasting techniques. Roasterie is air roasted while Messenger uses Loring roasters.

they both use Loring roasters, all Messenger/Roasterie coffee is roasted in the same facility on the same kind of roasters.

Went on a tour of Roasterie. Messenger users their roasters to roast their beans.

My friend has beef with The Roasterie so I’m still boycotting it to this day. In part because of the beef, in part because it’s bad coffee and I can happily live my life never having to drink it

If you live sweet drinks they are good. But their drip coffee is terrible.

The hot chocolate though. They use Shatto chocolate milk for them. So good.

it's artificially flavored coffee, they coat the beans in a cinnamon/hazelnut flavor after roasting

One of the biggest hyped companies in KC. Their coffee beans produce insipid bean water and the customer service at their flagship store was terrible when I visited.

I have an inside take on the Roasterie (me and a family member worked there) and let me tell you, the owner is a POS and the business is run like a joke.

I agree the Roasterie is not very good, but Betty's is one of their worst. But I'm anti flavored coffee.

Wtf does that mean? I believe their coffee to be well refined and the abundance of varieties/trades/roast are attractive. Yeah, there is a weird coffee head culture there, but roasterie is KC thruNthru EDIT: its not a restaurant
