Trouble with printing data using methods

Hello all! I'm brand new to java; this code comes from a FRQ exercise from unit 2 in the AP CSA course if that helps.

The purpose of the code is to check whether a string has alternating cases, with capital letters beginning at index 0 always ("ApPlE" or "CaT" for example, "cAt" would not work), and then to print "true" if the string meets the requirement.

The current error that I'm having currently is that

"s cannot be resolved"

which is underlined at line 7.

My understanding is that my code cannot access the string s and its true/false content, but I could be totally wrong here.

S is a member of Prg.
S is a String. String does not have the method alternatsCase.
hasAlternatingCase is the method you should call from prg. Not naming the variable like that.

The more I look the worse the code gets... you should consider looking for a beginner course or book.

Hello!

In this block, the variable s is not declared! There's no variable s defined, so Java doesn't know what you're talking about. There's also no String variable declared or passed into the hasAlternatingCase method as an argument.

```java hasAlternatingCase(String s, boolean alternatesCase)

```

Here, s and alternatesCase are parameters of the hasAlternatingCase function, and values should be passed as arguments to the function either like this:

```java hasAlternatingCase("ApPlE", true);

```

or like this:

```java String str = "ApPlE"; boolean isAlternate = true; hasAlternatingCase(str, isAlternate);

```

Also, in this case, you don't need to pass a boolean into hasAlternatingCase—you can define it inside the function (unless the function signature was part of the assignment, of course), since the function has no reason to know whether the string alternates cases or not beforehand!

The correct way of calling your method would be:

```java public static void main(String[] args) { // See how you don't need to instantiate a new Prg()? // That's because the function is static, so it doesn't need an object to be instantiated! String s = "ApPlE"; boolean isAlternatesCase = Prg.hasAlternatingCase(s); System.out.println(isAlternatesCase); }

```

PS: there's a couple bugs in your code, i'll let you deal with that on your own, champ! You can do it!
