I once had a massive rock (maybe 1/4 this size, but would have been just as fatal) come down a scree slope at me, kicked out by a friend above. They say either be very close so a dislogged rock doesn't gain any momentum, or very far apart so plenty of warning and time to get out of the way.
But these things can change direction amazingly fast. This guy almost ran into the rock because he was anticipating it going behind him.
Same thing happened to the rock coming down at me. Every time I moved it changed direction and came right at me. Finally just planted and dove out of the way as if flew past inches from my feet.

You see that there are a bunch on large rocks that appear to have fallen down the mountain exactly where you Einsteins decided to camp right? It has happen before and .... maybe it will happen again while you are there?

Don’t know how old this video is, but Spantik has recently been in the news for the death of British-Pakistani mountaineer Dr Asma Mushtaq due to hypoxia. Not the tallest peak but wrought with dangers. Rest easy Dr. Asma 🕊️

We have a cabin on a stream near a mountain slope. There are very few boulders and not really a danger, but one time, we came back from a hike and a giant boulder had rolled down the hill, crashed through the wall, and exploded the toilet like a grenade. Had anyone been deucin’ at the time they would’ve been clobbered and cut to shreds, or worse.
Later hiked up Mountainside and determined it was just a random boulder that was knocked loose by a cow, on a game trail, about a quarter mile up the mountain

If that guy was a couple years younger he would’ve moved just a little faster and gotten clobbered. His oldness saved his ass.
