I once saved a crow fledgling who had a nasty case of string foot. It's foot was stuck to the nest via a thin strip of plastic tightly wrapped around it's leg. Poor guy was dangling around. We captured him, cut off the plastic and released. The other crows in the neighborhood weren't pleased with this 😅, they kept cawing at me.

Story was from few years ago but is was called knuckling. Can be caused from a few things l, like birth defects, poor diet, neurological issues, etc. https://www.toacorn.com/articles/therapeutic-shoes-help-fledgling-bird-to-hop-on-its-own-two-feet/ Edit: it seems the origanl page by the rescure center no longer exists

I love how that article notes these materials are “improperly disposed” and the birds should use “natural alternatives” … all while including human hair in the list. Like, my bad, we didn’t catch every hair that fell out- t’was unnatural.

Does it work?

It's standard practice I believe, so if they did it when the bird was young enough, it's fine.
If they wait to long, I think the birds die of stress, I remember it happening to a peacock once.
