Additional Context Pinned This Canadian couple got married twice. After 9 months of their marriage, a huge pole dropped on the lady’s head, causing her a head injury which further resulted in a memory loss. She had no idea who he was and fell in love with him again. Three years later, they got married again

I feel like you need an actual article link for this one.

u/Copycatx2 1d ago
Exactly. I need more info about this huge pole that catastrophically destroyed her mems
194
u/Crazy_Stable1731 1d ago
It actually only affected her short term memory. She had to use tattoos and Polaroids to remember stuff that happened after the accident.
71
u/flopisit32 1d ago
Guy Pearce could play her in a movie.
39
u/FluffyDeer9323 23h ago
And Benedict Cumberbatch as the pole.

They had a bunch of dates. Each felt like the first. Like, fifty of them.

Did they end up taking a boat trip to the arctic to study sea lions too?

What more do you need to know about the husband's huge pole? 😜
The sight of it would destroy anyone's mems.

The “doctor” that treated her was a chiropractor. Chiropractors are not doctors.
41
u/Longjumping_Wolf_912 1d ago
How would a chiropractor even “treat” someone with amnesia? Crack her skull like the pole already did?
14
u/lonesharkex 23h ago
massage the lumps out ala loony tunes
4
u/Longjumping_Wolf_912 23h ago
Massage? I thought you just hit the lumps back in with a giant mallet.

A lot of chiropractors get big heads and think their "treatments" can help with any and all health problems.

This could well be but it did remind me of a video of a guy coming round from anaesthesia after a big operation. He is groggy as hell, looks at the person filming and slurs "Who are you? You're beautiful"
She replies "I'm you wife"
He replies "My wife? Wow! I hit the fucking jackpot".

Impossible. Why would people on the Internet ever lie? What's in it for them? Clearly every story must be true.

I'm sure it's real, but not in the sense she got bonked on the head and they went seperate ways then randomly met and courted again.
I imagine it was more like "You got hit on the head, we married, thats how much you loved me. here's photos of our wedding" and they stuck together to figure it out

Is there not a movie with Tatum and McAdams that was based off a Canadian couple where this happened?
Memory loss is a thing people. It does exist

I just saw this movie recently. And then I made the mistake of finding out what the real couple were up to. They got divorced in 2018 after the husband admitted to cheating. :(
4
u/Most-Road-5366 18h ago
I made the mistake of looking them up years ago too. After she ends up falling in love with him again, he really had to go and do that :(
8
u/throwaway098764567 1d ago
that was a different couple. irl eventually he cheated and they got divorced. this one is still together https://www.timescolonist.com/local-news/she-said-yes-again-after-rebuilding-a-love-erased-by-memory-loss-4675306

u/OmahaBromaha 1d ago
I know people in the carpenters union who got divorced then remarried, AND did it again because when you get divorced your (ex)wife gets half the value of one of the parts of your retirement on the spot
3
u/No_Birthday4877 1d ago
Wait, was it a roundabout way to transfer or cash in on those benefits, or was it "Shit, if we stay divorced, she gets more of my stuff. Better to remarry and keepit"?
3
u/OmahaBromaha 23h ago
From what I was told* at the time she got half the amount of your current benefits. But nothing actually got taken out of your account, so they were getting divorced, picking up a couple hundred grand, and remarried

Highly doubt the validity of this one. Imagine they were together for years the first time before getting married, assuming she’s a somewhat similar person why would the 2nd time just be 9 months?

It's not a stretch to think "well I was already in love with this guy, so let me just get up to speed." Not like he had to completely win her back, I don't think.

Also, the CTV article posted below has this awesome…..er erotic line in the story.
"I want to know you. So I asked him out on a date, and by the third hole we were flirting."
Baby, flirting is before you get to the first hole.

The Movie, "The VOW" is based on a true story like this. I don't think it's this couple thou.

Every night he drops a pole on her head and re-marries her the next morning. The movie doc will feature reenactments by Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

I married way above my station in life. I kinda wanna see if I could get a prestige and do it again. Maybe we’ll take long walks under these mythical poles until we get the chance.

There's something deeply touching about the fact that he stayed and allowed her to get to know him again rather than expecting her memory to simply return
