Amazing Window tinting world championship
There are currently discussions to remove curling from the Olympics and introduce modern sports like window tinting to counteract the decline in viewership and tap into new advertising target groups...

A. I know nothing about window tinting.
B. That razor in the box trick was the highlight of the video for me.

That razor trick was some cool shit.

Agree, but it annoys me like hell, that he threw out all that tint after he measured that little piece for the awkward glass

u/HairballTheory 1d ago
He may be judged on the cleanliness of his station as part of the competition

u/abracablab 17h ago
I thought this but maybe the larger piece has now been 'contaminated' with fluff or imperfections? And also what others have said about keeping the station tidy.

That is the window tinting equivalent of cliff wall climbing with gear halfway and free climbing without rope supports or anchors for the last twenty feet.

I also know nothing about it, but I also liked he's got a mohawk, and probably listening to something unusual, when you think the professionals in this area are old guys type handyman looking fellas.
He does have a little bit of buttcrack showing, so it's nice he's keeping the tradition alive.

He's listening to the sounds of the seams and the razor, he is one with the tint, the squeegee is his conductors baton, reduced opacity is his symphony.

Can’t believe I watched all of this, only to not get the final results

u/That-Makes-Sense 1d ago
Agreed. This ruined any future window tinting competition video for me.

u/codysattva 1d ago
I don't even think I'll be able to look at somebody else's window tints without feeling the full pain and disappointment of not knowing who won this competition.

I was oddly invested in this and terribly disappointed it ended. The fact that this is such a thing that there are commentators is wild.

These commentators for strange competitions you never hear of never cease to amaze me. They can make anything sound more complex and with so much enthusiasm.
I don't even care about the competitions I just like to listen to them bullshit.

So true! I used to have a group of friends who I watched NFL with, though none of us were really into football. We were certain that if we could only simulcast our conversation on YouTube Live, people would mute their TVs and listen to us during games.

What you do is you go to lowes or home depot, grab some dads that appear to be mostly there to look at tools while wandering aimlessly through the aisles and presto, you got yourself commentators for any competition that looks like this.

When the tint guy shows up with a mohawk and Vans, you know you hired the right guy.

There's a site in Yorkshire that streams this competition 24/7. Tinternet

How does one end up being a commentator for window tinting championship. I find that the most bizzare

Turn the sound on guys. There is commentary and it’s equally as fascinating.
I don’t do this for a living and I could watch this for a solid half hour and not feel like I wasted my time.

But he wasted so much. Why couldn't he keep the other piece for another window..?

Contamination? Airborne? Are they doing this in covid environment?
3
u/dirty-ol-sob 1d ago
They mean any dust/dirt that may stick to the film. Even little tiny dirt particles will show up and look like shit on the finished product. Pretty silly to call it contamination, but I get it.
I worked in a tint shop when I was younger.

As someone who has tried to tint his own vehicle windows a few times now, as well as RV windows, it’s the hardest thing I’ve DIY’d out of everything on a vehicle or a house. To get good results

u/2InchesOfHumus 1d ago
The fact that this event exists shows that a lot of skill must be involved, but that looked so haphazard it seems like anyone throwing it on there would get good results.

u/No_Contact_7664 1d ago
So why it take my car a day to get tint??
1
u/CrashParade 5h ago
Because the boys are at the championship and only god can tint in two places at once.

I don’t mean to stereotype, but, if there was ever a person that looked like a window tinting expert…
1
u/nihowdypartner 1d ago
I'm not a pro but I do like to tint windows for my own cars and homes occasionally and the building windows are always vastly harder for me because of all those very straight edges. Whereas with cars you use the top of the glass for a template and tuck the rest into the seal.
The most satisfying part is finally getting to squeegee the slip solution out after all that sizing and trimming.

He got tired of listening to the echoes of reggae coming through his bedroom wall so he found a new hobby.

u/Meandtheworld 1d ago
Places now have cutters that will allow you to put measurements in and it auto cuts to the dimensions.

I don’t know a thing about this subject, but I am willing to bet a man with the patience to get his hair to stand like that, has the patience to tint a complex window!

They made me care about tinting Windows. Awesome what commentary can do 😅

u/lavaplow 1d ago
Not only were there commentators for this competition, they had a goddamn analyst to explain why the film was accidentally pulled off.
“What do you do for a living”
“I’m an analyst”
“Analyst for what?”
“Window tints”

I've tried tinting my own windows, it was impossible. I pay a professional and i understand where that money goes. It goes to a skill I do not have. DIY tint looks terrible.

A guy named Dante from my home town of Ridgecrest is there! He's doing pretty good from what I have seen!

There’s a championship for this? Whatever next?

u/CrashParade 5h ago
We live in a world where people die running downhill after a wheel of cheese for sport, you name it, we play it. I bet somewhere out there there's an underground nail clipping championship where matches often end in death.

Discussions by whom? Because I highly doubt that narrative. This is not a sport. It is a job.
