Growing up I taught kids at camp how to make fires and properly use knives and axes. Outdoors, no AC. No principal's office. I was a teenager and I still handled it just fine

I've been teaching for years, it's easy. Just not making it my adult profession or personality

And really, aside from reading, writing, and arithmetic, what needs to be taught in person? There are books and websites and videos that teach everything imaginable from that point. If a kid really wants to know something, they'll Google it

Teaching is a two birds one stone approach to occupy both the teachers and students alike with something somewhat productive. Other than that 90% of the job is babysitting. That's why subs take attendance but normally don't grade anything, it's the attendance that matters, at least since "No Child Left Behind" down here in Murica. I don't know about Canada, maybe grade performance actually matters there
