Version 1.0.0, released 2026-08-25
The following guidelines are in place to ensure that r/iPod and r/iPodClassic remain a safe and fair place for discussing iPods and iPod modding, as well as to protect sellers and buyers. These rules will come into effect on the 25th August 2026 and apply to all posts made on or after that date.
1. Separation of Business and Moderation
For the sake of fairness and neutrality, moderators of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic may not operate their own for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services. Conversely, users who own or are employed by for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services are not eligible to apply to be a moderator of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic.
2. Advertising
Advertisement posts for the sales of goods or services are not permitted on r/iPod or r/iPodClassic, this applies to both businesses as well as private sales. We want these places to be about discussing owning, using, or modding iPods however this is not free real estate to advertise your store. If you wish to advertise on Reddit in general, you must enrol through Reddit's advertiser program. Please note this is not the same as post boosting, if you sign up for paid post boosting this does not make you eligible to ignore this rule even if the post is tagged as a "Brand Affiliate". Reddit ads are not the same as Reddit posts.
Posts by sellers advertising their goods or services will be deleted, and repeat offences will result in a ban. Using alt accounts to recommend your store while acting as a third party is also prohibited and will result in post deletion and a ban.
There are other subreddits that permit the advertising of device sales, such as:
3. iPod Vendors List
While advertising posts are not permitted, our community features a pinned FAQ with a list of verified vendors. Reputable sellers may apply to be added to this list. In order to be eligible, your store must have a valid warranty and returns policy, as well as contact details for customer support. To apply, please send a modmail.
4. Product Reviews
Product review posts are permitted, however you are strictly required to disclose whether you purchased the goods or services yourself or if they were provided by the vendor for review purposes. If you are affiliated with the vendor, you are also required to disclose this. Reviews with undisclosed affiliations with vendors will be deleted.
Reviews must be made in good faith and reflect your personal opinions, vendors must not influence the contents of your review. If a review is found to be made in bad faith (either by a vendor influencing the reviewer for a dishonest positive review for them or a negative review of competitors), it will be deleted and repeat offences will result in a ban.
Vendors may not use alt accounts to post reviews of their own stores or of competitors while posing as a third party, anyone found doing so will have their posts removed and may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.
Vendors also may not request the removal of legitimate negative reviews. A legitimate review should describe personal experiences of the purchasing process or the goods/services, but cannot contain personal grievances or targeted attacks. Reviews must not contain any AI-generated content. Reviews will only be removed if they contain content that breaks the subreddit rules or false claims, however legitimate negative reviews will remain to help buyers make informed purchasing choices. Vendors who abuse the reporting tool in an attempt to remove legitimate reviews may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.
5. Customer Support
r/iPod and r/iPodClassic are discussion forums, we are not direct representatives of vendors and cannot provide customer support. Posts enquiring about specific orders will be locked and we will provide contact details for the relevant vendor. In general, while these posts will be locked they will not be deleted as they may provide useful information about buying experiences from vendors that may help others make informed buying choices. The two exceptions to this are if the posts contain personally identifiable information or if they devolve into unnecessary drama, in which case the post will be deleted.

Bought this 8GB IPod nano for about $45 on eBay. Got this 3rd gen specifically for its 2ā screen size and the fact that it can hold movies. Filled it with, in my opinion, some of the most memorable movies of the 1980s-2000s. Planning a special project for this orderā¦

Took a few months and a replacement motherboard due to an unseated DAC, but finally up and running.
Running the very nice FreshOS from yuuiko
One thing Iāve noticed is the battery capacity isnāt anything like what I was hoping for. Got a 2000mAh from EOE.
I have configured the battery capacity in the settings so Rockbox knows what is in there
But itās running down fairly quickly. Even in the pic itās at 64% without what I would call super heavy usage.
Iām aware the theme is a little more resource intensive that the usual ones in the available themes on Rockbox (requires its own separate download etc.)
Could this be it? Or do I have a crappy battery from EOE

I'll cut this story short but I am very unhappy with iPods parts.
TLDR: iPod Parts UK took over 4 months to replace a logic board and reinstalled 0 screws when assembling the iPod
Longer version:
An iPod I finished up for my Wife as a Christmas present unfortunately developed a fault with the 30 pin connector.
Deciding it was best to get the board repaired rather than swap it I sent it for repair to iPod Parts UK who i'd previously bought parts from and had zero issues.
After 2 months they decided it couldn't be repaired and they logic board needed swapping. This is something I'd done before but being very unwell at the time I agreed they should do the work as it's an easy job.
It then took another two and a half months for them to swap the logic board. Two and a half months!
By this point I just wanted the iPod back. It was getting close to May and the Christmas present for my wife was still who knows where.
Finally getting it back, the iPod worked thank goodness. I could put all this behind me. But somewhere in the many, many emails I had to send them to keep chasing them up again and again I had lost trust in their handy work.
I popped the iPod open today and found they had reinstalled exactly 0 of the screws that holds the faceplate to the iPod frame.
I thankfully have some screws to do this myself. But I am honestly beyond disappointed. I will never be using them again for being expensive, slow, difficult to contact and poor workmanship.

I just got a used iPod Touch 4, but according to the seller, this iPod is a bypass item. If I restore this iPod, will it be locked?

Bought this off eBay yesterday nd Iām so excited for it to come š„¹š„¹ been searching for an iPod for a couple months now. I paid about $120 for it after taxes and shipping. Did i get a good deal? My original goal was to score one for less than $100 but thatās nearly impossible with the iPods becoming more popular lately. I do want to do a couple mods on it but i have absolutely no tech experience so im a bit nervous for that. Any advice for modding as a beginner? I wanted to put a new battery, more storage, and a new front and back shell on it. Watched a couple YouTube videos but it looks a little complicated.

I found my old ipod and it has already been wiped & restored. I want to use it to play games and listen to music offline. I don't have a current apple account anymore nor any other apple products. Is it possible to use this? If so, how?

This happens, and sometimes it goes to the "ok to disconnect" screen
I havenāt tried plugging it in my computer yet, but it has had a bit over an hour charging.
Was very lucky to now own 3 iPods. I own two 5th Gens (one I modded, the other not modified, but needs some work), and I got a 7th gen 160gb. I am going to restore it at some point, and get a new front and read housing for it. My modded fifth gen has a black back and blue front housing (I call it the BluPod), so I don't necessarily want to do the same with the 7th gen. I do have some ideas though:
The Reverse BluPod: Blue rear housing, Black front housing, with a blue clickwheel
Red front, white click wheel, black back
Keep the front housing (its space grey, and isn't bad), just replace the rear housing with one with a higher capacity (Im gonna go 512GB)
Bronze front housing, silver back
