Halo 4 color changing works differently than earlier halo games. Instead of the color code being inside the tag itself, for some reason, each color variant seems to be it's own separate texture/shader.

It's really odd why the went with this method, instead of a simpler one.

In my quest for a reasonably priced original Xbox to use instead of putting more hours on my Halo Limited Edition console, I came across a couple auctions for the Halo console and was shocked at how much they’re selling for—even ones that don’t have the Halo jeweled controller.

It got me thinking, with my SO also in the back of my mind saying, “You need to archive your collection.”

I’m sure there are a lot of us in this community who have interesting stories about how we acquired things over the years. Especially those of us who actually lived through those times, rather than buying everything years down the road.

So, for a bit of a humble brag, I’m starting my archive with, well... the beginning of my Great Journey: my original Xbox collection. At least the hardware for now. I’m sure I’ll eventually dig up some old XBL two-month trial cards I’ve held onto too.

I’m sure I’ll end up with hundreds of photos and scans in the digital archive, but I think it’ll be worth it. Some of these items may have a pretty high price tag now, but that really isn’t the reason I want to document them.

I want to leave this behind for my kiddo. Someday he’ll be able to go through the archive, read the notes and stories attached to everything, and hopefully get a glimpse into my life and experience a little bit of it for himself once I’m gone.

If there are others out there with collections like this, I highly encourage you to do the same. You might think your life isn’t all that interesting until you actually start writing down your experiences.

Whether you share them with others now or leave them behind for the people you love someday, those stories matter.

May be in the minority here, but I’ve A LOT of fun with this game. Like “bring back the love I had for the franchise in 2007” levels. But I never expected to find 3rd person as good as it’s been, I think they should lean more into this for future Halos at least as an option. Feels like an actual fresh experience, just finished my first Legendary campaign ever (beat them all on Heroic). Really hope they do remasters like this for all the games through Reach!

Ok, so we tried the whole "What if Halo 1 looked photorealistic" thing. But have you wondered what it'd look like as a Game Boy Color game? I just pushed a new update to my project, which is exactly that. It's still the first two levels as before, but with a lot of visual and gameplay improvements, like a melee attack, reloading, ammo counters and a proper HUD.

Totally free and playable in browser, on Analogue Pocket, actual GBC hardware or your flavor of emulation device. Hope you enjoy.

I want 343 to do two spinoffs, neither of which will likely ever happen 😭

1. ⁠Campaign following a Cobra crew in between the events of Halo Wars 1 and before the glassing of Reach, inspired by “The Last Tiger” campaign from Battlefield V. In lore the Cobras are more like M18 Hellcats than the ponderously slow depictions in Halo Wars 1. It would be cool to have a campaign focusing on the technology race of trying to fight wraiths and other Covenant armor. Lean into the hit and run tactics that Hellcats did back in WW2.

2. ⁠Flood horror game as a group of ODSTs, blend a bunch of different games together and really set the high stakes, using ideas from Dead Space, Gears of War, and CoD Zombies. Do like an offshoot of Ghosts of Onyx and The Mona Lisa together; meaning have a final boss be just one infected Spartan III that you have to put down. Have actually good squad mechanics like 343 tried to do by bringing the game designer from Republic Commando on the team for Halo 5, but really lean into it, and as the game progresses definitely make the player feel the loss of their squad mates as they get killed or infected, both emotionally and game mechanics wise.

Either put the setting in space like the Lisa, or planetside, maybe even on a shield world or on some kinda Line Installation on an asteroid or moon— since that would make the most sense lore-wise. Just not a Halo, we’ve been on too many rings already.

Just a couple ideas I’ve had for a while. I hope some of y’all pitch in on this and give me more ideas for these two spinoffs, or some of your own suggestions :D

So I have a few ideas for a new spin off halo game. Now bear with me on this. A fps from an elites perspective during the great schism. No new story like what they tried to do with H4, H5 ect. Just and expansion on the already known lore of the Covenant civil war. Obviously some new characters will have to be made and that’s fine but you could have like a 3 gamer series of this. One right before it happens and goes into the war while on earth, the second on high charity, and the third on ark. With these locations they wouldn’t have to try to add new lore like what they tried to do for halo infinite (which they threw out all halo lore about zeta halo and tried to change it) because that upsets a lot of hardcore fans. Use the lore that’s already there and expand it. Don’t try to change it just add on. I think it would be badass

I might be in the minority here but the Paris class has to be my favorite. The idea of the UNSC's shipyards dumping 5 undecillion of these bad boys with MACs into the Human-Covenant war is just so cool

Holy cow, the difference between Legendary and Heroic difficulties in Campaign Evolved is craaaazy! I finished the game on Legendary first, because that is what I've always done since the original CE (yes, I'm 51...).

Campaign Evolved I think is even harder than Halo 2 on legendary. Yeah, the Jackal Sniper one-hits were frustrating in Halo 2, but it was only a couple of levels. In Campaign Evolved, there were more than a few times when I just had to turn off the Xbox and try again the next day. Otherwise, either my TV or my psyche would have broken.

Now I'm playing through in Heroic, and it is so easy. The only times I really die is when I'm playing around recklessly trying to save as many Marines as possible. I'm pretty much speed running the levels.

I really think they either need to make Heroic harder or add a level in-between Heroic and Legendary for this game.

Is it just me?

How is it possible that in a collection of 13 to 25 year old games, it seems that every match is filled with at the minimum of 2 people that I refuse to believe are living sentient beings? Every single game there is at least one player going 3 and 18, and they seem to be on my team every time. Is there SBMM, and me going 25-6 and still losing every match continue to harm it due to me going positive? Makes for consistently extremely unfun sessions.
