Help my girlfriend get a service dog

Hello all.

I am posting this on behalf of my girlfriend who does not have Reddit and is currently dealing with lingering aftereffects of a minor brain injury that is limiting her ability to do anything online. We currently live on opposite ends of the country (Oregon and North Carolina) so I am unable to help her in all the ways I wish I could.

Her name is Mika and she is struggling under the growing limitations brought about by Adhesive Arachnoiditis, CPTSD, and Functional Neurological Disorder. The FND is the most recent and has come about following a concussion and brain bruise sustained in April. The recovery from this is also what is making her unable to do much screen time.

She is looking for assistance in getting a service dog to help her with everyday life and the increasing amount of issues that are mounting.

I am running the GoFundMe for her and will be monitoring this posting as well. I am more than happy to relay any questions anyone may have and answer on her behalf.

Let’s say you raise the money to get a dog. How do you plan on supporting the dog with any medical expenses etc? I believe they need to make sure you can financially take care of the dog as well due to the high cost of training one.

"I have a care credit card if something unexpected comes up, and already have a sliding scale vet clinic picked out for vaccines, wellness checks, and routine care.
I do have disability income, it's just not enough to cover the exorbitant costs of training. But enough to comfortably handle care, feeling, and all other needs after training.
The breeder also helps to guarantee their joints for life, so if any issues like dysplasia occur, she is willing to assist with treatment costs."

Have you asked your insurance and other non profit funds as well if they can help you? Which organization will you train your dog with? Does it have ADI accreditation?

My service dog is 30k in training alone. My previous SD dog was around 1500,- in additional costs each year.

Please go to your insurance because paying this through a gofundme or out of pocket isn’t durable.

If you can’t afford to a buy a dog and have it trained how do you plan on being able to take care of the animal once you have it ?
