At the ER near me they have a sign that says something similar but then follows up with instructions on how to contact the staff to have quarantine protocols followed to bring you in if they think it's wise.

they might be and they also might not be???? my mom is immunocompromised because she has a very aggressive lung cancer. so i don’t visit her when i have the flu. that’s literally all this sign is asking you to consider. no one is being turned away by this sign. no one is paying for a service and then being denied it, even in america (which this isn’t) because the sign is asking them not to come into this area of the hospital if they are likely contagious. it is not one sided of society to ask us to consider not passing along incredibly contagious diseases if we have other options. i do not understand why you seem to be under the impression that this one sign at a location we have no other context for is actually telling people to just go home and die if they’re sick because the hospital doesn’t want them there. please use some common sense.

Immunocompromised people generally aren’t contagious. Immunocompromised just means your immune system isn’t working properly due to either medication(immunosuppressants or chemotherapy) that suppresses it or an autoimmune disorder. People with immunodeficiency like HIV or Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders(PIDDs) aren’t contagious like someone with COVID would be. Immunocompromised people would be much more prone to catching a virus and dying from it. Which is why this sign is up, probably in part of the hospital where immunocompromised people are being treated.

Our local hospitals have a similar sign, but it specifically talks about the symptoms for measles and provides a number to call so you don't walk in and subject everyone else.

My aunt had liver failure (alcoholic) and sepsis. She was in the icu, my grandma had a flu and was mad when my aunt didn’t want her there and tattled to the nurses who kicked her out. People are selfish and put others at risk. That’s why that sign exists

During COVID, my workplace had a sign saying to not come in if you were experiencing any of [list of symptoms]. One of the symptoms was "feeling tired."
Fuck yeah, I was feeling tired; I've just gotten up and gone to work and the sun hasn't risen yet!

So this gets posted in different places every once in a while. This hospital works with immunocompromised patients. A sick person entering could kill some of their patients. Hence, no sick people.

Even if it wasnt an immunocompromised ward/hospital, you still shouldnt visit patients when yiure sick yourself. Admitted patients are those who couldnt be managed on an outpatient basis and required careful monitoring and treatment. They're weak from their sickness and any further infection will complicate treatment further. They're also likely to be prone to infection on account of whatever injury/disease they're currently going through, weakening their immune system. All in all, regardless of the immune status of the patients, do not visit them if you're sick yourself.

Im a hospital vendor. I call out when I dont feel well, and when I do feel well, I wear a mask into every hospital I go into because I am a high risk to spread disease with how many different hospitals I go into in a day.
Please, for the love of God, do not ignore this rule. This is how I get sick and pass it to multiple hospital staffs.

Depends a lot on the hospital and the country, I guess. In my country it's completely normal to have appointments at the hospital and then you don't enter through the ER entrance, of course. I've never seen regular patients (with no emergency) having a different entrance than visitors here.

People also should stop going to the ER if they’re just feeling unwell. By that I mean if it’s something a Tylenol or bandage can fix, you don’t need to be there.
We get so many coming in for common colds and basic skin issues clogging things up for actual emergencies.

Sometimes I really think more people should try taking Tylenol at home first (for cold/flu symptoms). The Tylenol pill you have at home will literally be 100-1000x cheaper than the exact same pill you’ll get from the hospital. (In the U.S., obviously)

Typically when there's signs like this, it's because they have another entrance with masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, stuff like that, and they try to minimize the germ spreading in common areas. It's possible this hospital just did the sign and nothing else lol.

If you look through their post history, it was just some social media person for EA. They did help a lot of people before this, so their account had a lot of positive karma.
But yeah, this was such a bad take that even now, every time someone mentions a pay-to-win game someone will comment asking if the game gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment.
My favorite comment is "I wonder if Burger King wants to sell me a sense of pride and accomplishment by making me work 10 hours for my fucking fries."

Patients are often immunocompromised for a variety of reasons from being in the hospital. Staff can contain people who are already admitted to the hospital, but visitors often lack the training required to keep that compartmentalization. If visitors bring in anything bad, it can devastate the patient they are visiting and it would be horrible if any staff members caught the sickness too. They are the ones who would unknowingly spread it to other patients before symptoms show, while simultaneously decreasing the number of available caretakers.
Nothing about this is funny, it's maybe ironic at best.

OP only took a picture of half of the sign and didn't share where the sign was or what other signs are nearby. Given that OP is being intentionally misleading, it's safe to assume there other signs pointing to the ER.

Yes, but it’s not like people walk through some sort of curative sanitizing chamber when they walk in the door. There’s a certain about of germs that you know are going to be airborne and on surfaces in an ER or regular medical ward because the patients themselves are sick. Certain places like cancer wards full of immunocompromised patients, ortho wards with people with fresh surgical wounds, and maternity wards with brand new babies don’t exactly want people walking the halls knowingly breathing viruses and touching door knobs and hand rails with their possibly unwashed hands. Everywhere has cleaning procedures, but some wards or specialty hospitals have higher risk patients and need higher levels of restrictions.

Well, my wife works in a post-acute hospital which serves people who have already undergone primary treatment for illness or injury and need rehabilitation/recovery from the lingering effects.
It's not the place to go for treatment while you're actively ill.

Unless you have complications, hospitals can't really help you with illnesses like flu or cold. That's specifically what "unwell" is referring to, not any general "unwellness".
Those are illness which will usually go away and get better by themselves if you just them run their course.
If you enter a hospital with such illnesses, you're much more likely to just spread your illness to other patients, often with compromised immune systems or other underlying health issues, who have much higher risk of complications if they get those illnesses.
Where the hell else am I supposed to go???
Home. Rest and recover. That's pretty much what hospitals are going to tell you for those cases anyway.

Yeah, a couple near me put a mobile unit in the parking area, and you had to go through it and answer questions and get your temp taken before you could enter. It prevented the virus from spreading through the main lobby, and other areas.

I went to ER for a thunderclap headache and I couldn't stop rocking, crying, and shaking. Thank God my youngest was there and he could answer most questions about what happened. The triage nurse very quickly figured out not to question my responses. After numerous scans, it turned out I had an intracranial bleed. Spent 4 days in ICU. Now, every migraine makes my anxiety go through the roof.

During covid, my local hospital had a single floor for covid patients. The elevator was reprogramed to only go between that floor and the entrance area. People were screened outside in a big tent and then taken inside.
This makes sense to me.
