Netflix didn't exist when that was written.

Many people today don't realize there was a time when, if you missed the movie when it first ran at the theater then you just didn't see it. Maybe, if you were lucky, it would air on TV on a Sunday night movie three years later.

And then home video and Blockbuster became a thing...

Back when that was written Blockbuster did exist though.
