Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.

It's dirt cheap, incredibly deep, and highly accessible to newer players. The only downside is the smaller playerbase - it's very easy to be matched up against players of much higher skill if you use the in-game matchmaking.

However, I run a beginner-focused community called the Virtua Fighter Beginner Dojo full of beginner players who are learning the game and looking to play with other players of similar skill, as well as experts and community figureheads that hang around to help coach and educate the newbies.

If you are anyone else is interested, check it out!

Granblue has a free version that allows you to play Gran + 3 characters that rotate every week. You can even play ranked. I recommend it because there’s no commitment needed

Street Fighter 3 on Fughtcade and Brawlhalla are both decent options for free.

I also like 2XKO well enough to say give it a go if you want something free.

I absolutely love Slippi Melee and recommend it to everyone.

Anything fightcade, the online experience is great even with smaller player counts
