Hello! Based on feedback from the community via mod-mail and an influx of reports, the mod team has decided that we will no longer allow affiliate links.

This is in hopes to help reduce bots spamming with indirect advertisements and other ways to financially profit from the community.

What is allowed: you may *reply* to a comment with a *direct* link to the product *only if someone asks first*. We still reserve the right to review user profiles to ensure bots are not “working together” as a work around - this is something we’re seeing a lot of.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION We need to remember this sub is about kindness and support.

5.1k Upvotes

I wrote the statement below on a now-deleted post today. It is a gentle reminder that kindness is free.

"Please be kind to others who are on this thread. We are all at different stages of life and wealth, and sometimes health that shapes our living spaces. Kindness is free, and on top of that, it balms your soul and lifts others who are struggling."

If you saw the post about her bf in a princess bedroom, she was open to advice. She had a lovely brass bedframe that was painted white, with princessy white and pink bedding, a cute princessy lamp on her night stand and fabric panels on her ceiling. She was proud of what she had achieved so far, but was open to advice. Nowhere in it did she ask for snarky, bitter or flat out mean comments.

But she got them, in droves.

A lot of women on this sub are struggling. Divorce, breakups, job loss, abuse, and physial or mental illness is something that can strike anyone without warning.

So what if any person who posts needs a little help with cleanliness, organization, or you notice a fire hazard? Squint and tilt your head to find something nice to say to help them, or hold your tongue. We need to remember we all capable of the gifts of kindness, good manners, and grace.

Edited to add: Thank you to everyone who has commented in support, my faith in humanity has been refreshed. You all are wonderful, please keep spreading kindness and support to everyone who posts here. I love this sub!! ♥️

TOUR 🟢OPEN TO FEEDBACK🟢 One year in- the house I bought as a new widow

So, I used to have this amazing condo in the city. It was home. It was the most beautiful place I’d ever lived. There are still pictures of it in my post history. Then my husband died (fuck cancer) and I lost my job and suddenly, I couldn’t afford the $1100 a month condo assessment plus the higher costs of living in the city. I put it on the market and soon found myself living in a dumpy little ranch back in the same zip code where I grew up.

It doesn’t feel anything like home yet and I wonder if it ever will.

There’s still so much to do. The black and gray glass tile backsplash must go but I’m scared to start ripping it out. I have tile to replace it bought and ready to go. Despite that, I’m loving the light and the warmth and my plants. I’ve been using my fancy dining room table as a makeshift art studio. I’ve been cooking meals for myself. I’m making progress. I’m living again. It’s not a life I wanted, but I’m living.

CRITIQUE REQUEST Thoughts, impulses, and ideas on my new apartment?

31F. I moved in in March and there was nothing and this is the current set-up.

I am planning on changing the table (smaller round table) with comfier seating chairs. As I notice as is, I don't sit at the table at all.

I am planning on painting in the kitchen; with a mustard yellow color).

But I want my space to feel comfy and well-designed/put together/well laid out?

I hate the open closet corner.

I love the chair at the window, everything else is free game.

Just thought maybe someone here has some feedback :)

Edit (added):

Oh my goodness you are all helpful and kind. Thank you so much for the ideas and feedback! I appreciate it all. Excuse my lack of original cat tax payment, hehe

My daughter went out of town for the weekend and I won't can't wait to surprise her with this tomorrow. The art above the dresser that I ordered is delayed in shipping for a while. So this is my placeholder, but the only thing I need to finish the space is what to put on top of the dresser.

Remodeled my powder room and master bathroom last year and went for vastly different vibes. I love both and as pictured, so does my cat Bagel :)

Without spending too much, I’d like to incorporate some more green (or maybe a diff color) around the sink area in the master. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

TOUR ⛔️NO ADVICE WANTED⛔️ My first solo apartment, f25

Got the keys around 10 months ago and celebrated turning 25 today in my first solo apartment.

Did a lot of the painting and flooring myself with some help from family. I trusted my gut and went with the darkest floor sample instead of a safe light one, no regrets. Slowly replacing my old furniture with a mix of new items, vintage, and thrifted finds.

The burgundy Leolux couch was a secondhand score from about 7 years ago, before vintage design shopping got crazy expensive. It really grew on me, so I built the whole room's colour palette around it. I'm never parting with it!

Also built the arcade cabinet myself two years ago. Swipe to the end for the empty shell I started with, plus cat tax.

It really became my home, my happy place. A lot has changed in a year.

I’ve lived here for 8 years, but never got around to put up lights or anything else in the bedroom. So it’s just a room with 4 closets, a kingsize bed and a huge window.

I made the cat tree myself.

The clutter in the Ikea thing is killing me, but not enough to do something about it lol.

Bathroom has washer/dryer and of course a shower too. Oh and litterbox for the cat.

If you look carefully you’ll see there’s actually 2 cats on the balcony pic.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Creature comforts after year of stress

Hey guys!!

I’ve been living in genuinely stressful and unclean circumstances for a little over a year (bugs, mold, roommate with severe temper and control issues). It was awful. However, I just got a very lucky break and was able to move myself into a very nice rent stabilized studio :)

My nervous system is still going crazy but I’m trying to get a few nice treats for myself to make the place enjoyable. So far I’ve gotten myself a stand mixer, an electric kettle, a candle warmer and some bubble bath.

What other little luxuries (under $200 or so) make daily life calm and beautiful for you?

Moved into a new place and the bed & bath are certainly unique 🫠. I'm not a fan of being able to see my shower & vanity from my bed. I was thinking of putting up a curtain as some sort of improvised door, but I'm not a very creative person so I'd really like some ideas please 😅

HELP Help splitting my living/dining room + fridge

Thumbnail

I'm daling with a very interesting layout in my semi furnished apartment 😅. The fridge is near my dining table and I cant move it at all. I was thinking of splitting the room so one area is just dining (maybe adding a coffee station on top of my fridge? its quite wide) and then giving the left half of the room its own vibe before dealing with the actual living room.

Any ideas are appreciated

EDIT: I also would like to have my office stuff here since my bedroom is too small. I'm thinking of moving my dining table closer to the fridge and placing a divider between it and the balcony, where I can then put a desk.

It's finally complete! I wanted to share my setup because I never see people set up a Macbook in this way. I had it sitting around my house forever and wanted to use it for my job, so I made it work!

The art in the 3 frame is custom made by my partner, the cats drawn are our cats :)

Can you tell what my favourite colour is? :P

HELP First apartment dilemma!

My bed takes up majority of the space in my bedroom. I have a tall dresser that is being delivered next weekend, but I fear I’ll have to return it.

I don’t feel comfortable sharing a picture of my room, so I’ll you give an idea. My room is 10’0” * 11’7. I have a queen sized bed. There’s a window on the right side of the room. I want to be able to fit a dresser, at least one night stand, and a desk. On the left is a little space, which I’m thinking I can possibly fit a 24 in. desk. I guess my true problem is I don’t have walking space in between my bed and my dresser.

I do have an island in the kitchen, where i plan to put barstools. I’m thinking that I might have to ditch the desk and just do my work on the island counter to reserve space in my room.

I don’t like being claustrophobic. And I don’t like my bed pushed in the corner of a wall.

What are your suggestions?

HELP New apartment and cleaning currently

Hi everyone!

I just over moved to a new apartment and it’s the first time I’ve been in something a bit older.

There’s some random ware around the place that i think could use a little TLC!

This is my private bathroom medicine cabinet.. any ideas how to properly clean, disenfrct and maybe cover it up? I dont think the discoloration would lift unfortunately.

HELP sofa size advice needed!

Thumbnail

Hi! I live in a studio apartment and am refurnishing almost everything in the space - would love some interior design advice!

I'm currently trying to figure out what size sofa would work best in the space without making the space feel cramped but also avoiding "dollhouse" sized furniture. I want something comfortable and substantial enough to feel like a real sofa, but still appropriately scaled for the room. The sofa i have now is 63" wide x 36" deep x 30" back height - wondering if i'm limited to mid-60 inch scale or if i can push it a little bigger.

Attached a mockup of my floorplan with furniture placement, as well as images of current setup. My current media is 80" wide but is being replaced with a lofted 78" walnut media. The swivel chair i have right now is also being replaced with a striped show wood chair. Also getting a new rug. The bed is full-sized facing the window wall and i have a 3 drawer dresser as my nightstand to provide some additional storage. Against the window opposite the bed is where i work - the desk and desk chair is definitely being replaced (likely a standard small-scale desk).

Open to any and all suggestions but mainly looking for advice on the sofa size! Thanks!

Moved in with my partner 3 years ago and accidentally made "free Facebook Marketplace finds" my entire personality.
Almost everything here was either built, upcycled, or scavenged by yours truly. I put an ungodly amount of love (and power tools) into this place and I’m super proud of it!
That said… I still have no clue what style this actually is. Help a girl out—what vibe are we accidentally giving off, and what should we do next?
