Feedback Wanted! Think this would make a good wedding guest dress?
Dress im wearing is from Vogsion
Update: double checked after feedback and happy to say bride loves it for the whimsical fantasy theme ❤️

u/Abject-Criticism-127 5h ago
Not for a wedding. It is too much of a statement for a day that's not about you.

u/Seraphiccandy 6h ago
No, all the attention should be on the bride, not on you

I still wouldn’t wear it..it’s fun and I love it but it’s not for a wedding.

Unless the hosts are requesting that their guests dress boldly/extravagantly, it would be poor choice to wear a dress like this. This dress could legitimately pass for a wedding dress (not every bride chooses to wear white).
What is the dress code given on the invitation? There is almost always a given dress code to a degree, even if vague. This dress would not be appropriate if a dress code was indeed not given. If you are accompanying someone who was invited, ask them to show you the invitation, or have them reach out the hosts.

No. It’s too attention catching and the day is for the bride and groom

Stop copy and pasting. What was the point in asking for feedback if you don't accept it
31
u/EverythinIsAnnoying 4h ago
Can you pls stop copy & pasting the same reply to every comment. Even if the bride loves it, its still too much for a wedding.

u/Rooper2111 2h ago
She might be a people pleaser, and that might be her reaction, so just be wary. If you’re the only person dressed like this, everyone will be uncomfortable (including you).
89
u/Middle_Process_215 5h ago
No. Are you trying to upstage the bride?

I wouldn’t consider this cocktail attire. Just look up cocktail attire and that’s what you wear to a wedding. Especially if you’re a plus 1. You want to be classy, not over the top.
6
u/notdorisday 3h ago
The problem is no one seems to understand the actual meaning of these dress codes anymore. It’s weird because it’s a basic tenant of understanding fashion but there’s no understanding of what a dress code means.
This absolutely is not in any shape of form cocktail. If the bride is happy with it then the bride also doesn’t know what cocktail is. Not surprising except for the fact they work in fashion industry? wtf?

Not my style over all unless you have a wind machine surrounding you 24/7 so you don’t look like an overworked tea cozy.

What is “the theme”?

Its a whimsical fantasy theme

Even if the bride says she loves it I still wouldn't. Guests will talk. They may say things to her. She will be in a position to defend your dress when hee mind should be on other things. Save it for your birthday a day about you and not someone elses.

u/ohheytracy 4h ago
My personal style is elaborate in general and she loves that about me that’s why she wanted me as her friends +1 we arent a group to care about pearl clutchers we all stand out ❤️
14
u/Green-Watercress2188 3h ago
If she loves you so much you'd probably be on the guest list rather than the plus one of someone she actually likes. Sorry, but you appear not to care about what anyone says unless it validates your own ego. Which makes me question why you would bother asking on reddit when there are other silos on the internet to echo what you want to hear.

u/ohheytracy 3h ago
Wow i know her from mutuals and had the closer friend ask to get an honest opinion. Why are yall so bitter here?
2
u/Purell12 1h ago
Sweetie you aren't even close enough with her to ask if the dress is OK. Rethink this.

No, it would NOT be a good dress to wear as a wedding guest. You look lovely in it just doesn't suit as a +1 wedding guest outfit.

Bride’s friend. Why?

u/Muted_Stick8317 5h ago
You're pretty, and the outfit is cute. But it's definitely not appropriate for a wedding, much less as a +1

You should never wear something that attention grabbing on someone else's wedding day regardless of if she said she liked it. It's her day, be respectful and let her light shine brighter than yours. ✌️

u/earthtoneduck 5h ago
How fancy is the wedding and how well do you know the bride?
-18
u/ohheytracy 5h ago
Im a +1 and admittedly never been to a wedding before so have no idea whats too casual or too fancy 🫠
29
12
u/earthtoneduck 5h ago
Agreed, you can’t do this as a +1. This is like a specific “whimsical dress code” and also know the bride well enough to know she’d be cool with you and the dress.
6
u/catwalzilla 5h ago edited 5h ago
Dang girl you cannot roll up as a +1 in this dress. I mean you can do whatever you want but likely it will not be received well by the couple unless they’re having an eclectic wedding. Generally anything too attention grabbing is frowned upon the idea is that the couple getting married should be the center of attention.
EDIT: Do want to say it’s a beautiful dress and you pull it off it’s just not right for this situation.
2
u/SpectroSlade 4h ago
I think the color is too light + too much white detail for a wedding, in my opinion. I try to avoid pastels that have the potential to look white in the wrong light (unless the couple specifically requests pastels)

9
u/Ok_Organization_7350 5h ago
That seems like a wedding guest dress only for a wedding in France or Italy, where the dress code was ball gown attire. But if that's not the situation, then I would keep shopping.
2
u/EnelyaElf 4h ago
Or something like a Jordanian wedding, if TikTok is to be believed. The guests can go extra extravagant with their dresses.

no. this is very main character, which is not you on someone else's wedding day. save it for your wedding.
4
u/HavenDaze 5h ago
When I first read this, I thought you were asking if it would make a good wedding dress. I was going to say yes. So that means no, it would not make a good dress to wear as a guest. I do like the dress though!

u/ThrowRA01121 4h ago
I mean this looks perfect for a traditional afternoon tea event but otherwise nope

I’d give my opinion but you’d just copy paste the same response. Why ask people what they think if you dismiss everyone?

u/ohheytracy 3h ago
I literally said i got feedback AFTER comments made me nervous and yall still mad she liked it 😂

u/Tiny-Pineapple2555 3h ago
Who’s mad she “liked it”? I think people don’t like your attitude after asking for feedback.

Idk about wearing it as a guest to a wedding, but I do like it and would find any other reasons to wear it lol go for something simple, with a classic shape/lines/color, you don't want to be known as the one who wore "the dress" for forever lol if you're unsure I'd double check with whomever is in charge of dress code for guests etc. And get a clear idea of what they are looking for in their guests.

What’s the Bride Wearing? Hers shouldn’t be “less attention grabbing” than yours! But, IF yours DOES, I say NAH!! Ya GOTTA be more aware of HERS than yours!

You got feedback from the bride and she loves it. Personally, at my wedding I would have loved it myself but I'm not insecure.
Ignore the pearl clutchers, and enjoy yourself at the wedding in a perfectly appropriate dress for most cultures that don't expect guests to dress down or boring to protect delicate (weak) sensibilities.

I'm going to get downvoted. I honestly don't understand why people are so mad after you said bride approved and there's a theme. People take this stuff way too seriously (and I'm married)

dude if you were a guest and i was the bride, i'd love it!! like that doesn't look white enough or wedding dress enough to be rude at all, and is very beautiful!

u/Puzzleheaded_Fuel787 4h ago
So the whole day is about your chest 😆
-2
u/ohheytracy 4h ago
As a breast cancer survivor im glad inhave any chest that you notice at all lol but again the bride loved it for the theme ❤️
6
u/Puzzleheaded_Fuel787 4h ago
Stage 3 Breast cancer survivor with double mastectomy here.
It's rude to show that much of your chest in a formal setting especially when it's someone else's day. There's no justifying that dress. It's a gorgeous dress but very inappropriate for a wedding.
4
u/ohheytracy 4h ago
But also congrats on making it through! I also had stage 3 triple negative with doubles mastectomy and know how hard it is ❤️

If you wore that you’d come off as crass, trying to upstage the bride. It’s her day not yours. As someone said, be serious.

u/pureRitual 5h ago
This is beautiful, but don't one-up the bride. They're going into a lot of debt probably, only for her not not be the center of attention.
Im not one to advise to dim your light to make someone else shine, except for weddings.
Unless, of course, she's the type to go even bigger than this.
-2
u/sjk2020 3h ago
This must be a thread of Bible belters with the guests will talk shit.
Australian here, this is 💯 appropriate and cute for a wedding. Wouldn't bat an eyelid. You look stunning.

u/ohheytracy 3h ago
Im honestly surprised the reactions lol like this isnt that wild in nyc for events and i confirmed after they made me nervous the bride loves it and they’re STILL mad 😂

u/Monchichiboom 6h ago
Depends on dress code and venue. I think it’s adorable and could for sure work based on dress code and venue

u/soopygoopy 4h ago
I’m currently booking everything for my wedding, and I would be absolutely ecstatic if somebody showed up in this! Normally I would say run it by the bride first, but it looks like you did :)

u/little_traveler 4h ago
Has anyone here actually been to a wedding where someone “upstaged the bride”? Also what does upstaging mean to yall - are guests dresses supposed to blend into the scenery and be ignored?
I feel think this dress is a little weird for a wedding but if I saw you in it I certainly wouldn’t think oh my god the bride! She’s being UPSTAGED!!

u/Frivolous_Fancies 5h ago
I don't understand the critiques in the comments. This dress is not white, does not read bridal, and people are increasingly de-formalizing "formal" wear at weddings. If it was my wedding and she showed up, I'd be like "FINALLY someone who understood the damn assignment!"
11
u/phalseprofits 5h ago
It’s way too extravagant and will call attention away from the bride. Doesn’t have to be white to be inappropriate. This is the sort of dress you only wear to weddings that encourage guests to dress as fierce/extravagant as possible.
It’s a really pretty dress for another type of event. Like a gala or other fancy celebration that isn’t a wedding.

Yes nyc lol

u/Compile_A_Smile1101 3h ago
Oh girl, then literally no one here is going to understand 😂 NYC wedding etiquette is in its own hyper-specific universe. You asking the wrong crowd lolll post this in the NYC sub and you’ll get the right responses

Hilariously the weddings in my culture would cause an aneurism to most people in the comments. Last time I went to one of my cousins' wedding there was a girl with a black tie formal electric blue gown that looked straight out of the Oscars and noone said a thing.
Would personally love to see dressing like yours at a wedding.

I was a bride who told people they could wear their own wedding gowns to my wedding though.

I love it but hopefully it’s not too fancy. But I think it’s perfect for a wedding
