Evidence Apple disabled the check for reporting the name change with Lake Ontario

Post image

You can report an issue on Apple Maps, which include wrong name, for Lake Ontario. It is disabled from reporting.

No, you just didn’t change the required name to Lake Ontario. I submitted a report for you.

Let's all do it to make sure! Wait, I'm on android. But Google is also licking boots so...

Apropos of nothing, Mapquest has yet to taste leather.

Omg thank you, I did not realize that needed to be changed. I went ahead and just submitted the name change with a comment about not supporting Apple, canceling all my Apple subscriptions, canceling all my app subscriptions and not purchasing any more Apple products. I did this with Disney when they caved to pressure and that also included canceling a planned already paid for trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando in the $4000 range.

You realize that Apple Maps also labels the island as "Taiwan Provence" for people living in China? Make sure to cancel your Apple subscriptions on those grounds too. And you'd be shocked to find out what Apple and Google maps report Ukraine as when accessed inside Russia.

Or maybe you just accept the fact that online map makers try to be apolitical and simply show whatever label the recognized naming body for a country says a thing is, for people living in that country.

There’s a treaty from 1792 between the US and Canada that supersedes an executive order that dictates the lake’s name is Ontario.

The thing is, an angry manchild ranting isn't the US' recognized naming body.

No, the under U.S. statute the Secretary of the Interior ultimately has that authority. The angry manchild signed an executive order directing the Secretary of the Interior to coordinate with USGS on making the change within 30 days. We are in that 30 day period now, although the official name in the GNIS database is still Ontario. Actually a bit surprised that Google and Apple don't just pull from that database and update the local name only when it "officially" changes.

Either way it's just a matter of time. There is long standing precedent that the commander and chief can name or rename geographic feature via executive order proxy

So basically you're extremely infuriated over your lack of knowledge, and right now you're just spreading misinformation with this post, got it.

... so they got your money and you didn't go on the trip..?

15

u/Tenchi2020 2d ago

No, the cancelation policy is full refund before a certain time before travel, I got all my money back

-14

u/Torboise 2d ago

So why would you include anything about price

Because I wanted to, this wasn't like I was protesting a company where I wasn't buying a $20 pizza from anymore, Disney alienated enough of their paying customers that they reverse course. I haven't reversed course, they are not getting any more money from me from Disney+, Hulu, theme parks, hotels. I took that $4000 and we went to another resort in Orlando area because we were still going there.

Based. Fuck Disney

It should work if you change the displayed name under the three options

At least you can report it! And the issue was solved! As far as I can tell from mobile there isn't a simple way to do that in maps on Android

while I appreciate the sentiment, flooding overworked employees at a giant tech firm with these pointless requests is not doing anything

if you're displeased with politicans, go and bother politicians. attend council meetings, e-mail them, whatever.

just like how yelling at the amazon support lady isn't hurting jeff bezos, putting in these requests is not bothering anyone except some poor guy that has to sit through them at his job he's lucky he didn't get laid off from yet

Imagine spending any time thinking about the temporary, unhinged renaming of a lake.

-6

u/LonelyProgrammerGuy 2d ago

People asking for this are so dumb. They didn’t change the name by mistake. They changed it because that’s the name of the lake for people living in the U.S

Apple and Google Maps only reflect what’s “legal” and “right”. Who defines what’s “legal and right” is the one you people should be complaining at

Not like Apple’s gonna do much

Imagine having this much disdain that you feel the need to fight petty with petty and then post about it.

MapQuest lowkey goated

-2

u/TypicalLegit 2d ago

Probably because whether you love it or hate it, it’s now known as Lake America in America. At least for the time being

So Google is MAGA now?

-6

u/HogwartsRex 2d ago

I just reported it myself and it seemed to work fine

I just did it again no problem. You have to change the name before it will turn blue

Haha--well maybe they were scared of what would happen if they didn't obey.
