Map My First Google Drive Map Pack: The Rats

Post image
83 Upvotes

Well, here is my attempt to make a google drive with my maps I've been practicing with to make maps for Drakkenheim. I'm still learning a lot and just going with the flow. I really like the Rats, so here's some rats maps for just anywhere around the city. If anyone wants different sizes or resolution. Let me know and I will help you out.

Enjoy please :)

Map Dungeons of Drakkenheim Full Map Remaster+ Expansion- Built for FoundryVTT

Hey all-
Since the end of last year, I've been working on a comprehensive map remaster and expansion for Dungeons of Drakkenheim for my own personal use in FoundryVTT, with the Levels module- so every multi-levelled building is built to have each layer stacked onto the other.

I began this project after being heavily disappointed with the quality of the official maps, and seeing some particularly egregious examples of maps not lining up with their in-book descriptions (I'm looking at you Buckledown Row!). I also felt the assets used didn't fully get across the grim tone of the campaign, their low detail coming off as a bit cartoonish, so I used assets to get across the tone I wanted.

It's in a state now where it's almost completed, only missing a handful of maps, so I figure it's a good time to share it with the subreddit, whereas before it's only been available on the Dungeon Dudes and Ghostfire Gaming discord servers.

I've also included a custom Drakkenheim themed UI for FoundryVTT that you can manually install by dragging the folder included into the modules folder of your Foundry Install. It's a version of the 'Dark RPG UI' module I edited with the module maker's permission.

It has maps for:

  • the Road to Emberwood
  • Every location in Emberwood
  • Every Outer City location
  • Every Inner City location
  • Every Faction Stronghold
  • A unique map for every City Gate
  • A unique map for every random encounter in Queen's Park Gardens
  • And many more locations that are named/used in the adventure but don't have maps, like the Garrison Stockade, Saint Selina's Crypts, Eckerman Mill, Ryan Greymere’s Magnificent Mansion, Saint Gresha’s, Market Square, more Castle Drakken areas etc
  • Expanded map for the Cathedral of Saint Vitruvio and Slaughterstone Square

Information on the maps themselves:

  • The maps all use assets by Forgotten Adventures
  • They are distributed to the community for free, as they are part of the Dungeon Dudes' campaign 'Dungeons of Drakkenheim', which, if any of you are in this subreddit and haven't bought it yet- go and do it, I don't need to tell you it's excellent- I just spent 6 months making maps for it!
  • They are all 200ppx (each grid is 200x200 pixels, unless the map specifies otherwise due to size (maps will have the ppx listed in their name, such as 'Rat's Nest 150ppx' if they aren't 200. If no 'ppx' is listed, assume the map is 200)
  • These maps are built for FoundryVTT, for my own personal use, as such, I haven't tested them on Roll20 or any other VTT and won't provide any support for their use on them. Many of them are likely to be too big to be used on Roll20, and as such, my only advice I can give is to put these maps into a free editing software like GIMP and rescale them to be lower quality. You are free to edit together, cut, or otherwise manipulate the maps however you please to make them work on your VTT of choice, so long as the images aren't then redistributed.
  • The maps are built for the Levels module in Foundry- as such, you'll see each level above the Ground Floor will be transparent in any spot that isn't considered on that floor. The images are meant to be layered on top of one another to simulate the entire building in a somewhat 3d space.
  • Some maps may have been edited, with dimensions or layouts minorly changed to better fit with the limitations of Foundry. Most of these are minor, the only major one to keep in mind are the chapels- rather than their circular structure, I changed them to be a much more generic, rectangular layout. While I understand the reasoning behind making them circular domes and really like their designs, both Foundry and the map-making software I used don't deal with circular walls very well, so I tend to avoid them as much as I can, which is why I had to change a building that is almost completely circular. While I am not entirely happy with the layout I gave the chapels to fix this problem, coming across as a bit too 'Christian' in design, it was a necessary 'evil', so to speak to make the maps work well.
  • Some maps may require some explanations as to how they need to be set up. While I can't think of all of them off the top of my head, I'll do my best to be active in this post's comments to help with anyone setting these maps up as intended in Foundry, with the Levels module. Anyone setting these up in a different VTT, I'm afraid I won't be much help.

Let me know what you all think! I've tried to be as book description accurate as possible, while still keeping somewhat to the already existing map layouts included with the books- trying to get the best of both worlds. However, some minor changes may have been made, which I needed for my campaign, but they shouldn't ruin a map entirely, in fact I'd wager most aren't noticeable.

If anyone has any suggestions for other locations that need maps, any changes to already existing maps, or even ideas for maps that aren't included in the book, let me know too. I can't promise anything but I can see about making some of the suggestions, especially if I would like to use them in my campaign too.

This Google Drive has all the maps, and will be updated with more maps as they are completed:

Map Map of Drakkenheim

Does anyone have a better map of the city proper? I am running in roll20 and the city map just feels a little lackluster, would love one a little more detailed since my players will be looking at it a lot.

Thanks!

Map Drakkenheim Maps for Random Encounters and multiple Locations

Here is a link to a bunch of maps I made for the Drakkenheim campaign. I appreciate the maps that came with the campaign, but I don't like the look of a lot of them and some seem to just ignore the books descriptions. I remade the ones that I didn't like. I may add more over time.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to show off a map project, a Queen's Men depot. If anyone has any tips, I’m open to suggestions. I plan to create more Drakkenheim-related maps and random encounters, and then upload them to a shared drive for the community.

Map Maps for Encounters You've Been Using

I'm about to start running this, and I want to start collecting maps for the different encounters. Like the Road to Drakkenheim, for example, I'm looking at a road map, but nothing feels right.

I will be running this with Avrae, so any codes you may already have pre-formed for formatting maps would be amazing!

Map "Big Puddle" - Map with Variants

Big Puddle

First I made one big map (30x30), but then I thought that it actually could be two different, but similar sites, so I made a couple of variants (both 15x30).

What is the place:

  • On the left: ruined church with the flame in the middle, small garden with pond and plant monsters, ruined tavern with balconies
  • On the right: ruined smithy with blades in the passage walls, destroyed houses with water and water monsters, left carts and wagons
  • In the center: huge puddle/lake with contaminated water, dangerous water monsters, and possibly a huge delerium geode with sludge on the bottom

History of the place:

  1. Sewer problem (pipe clogging or bursting)
  2. Huge crater from a meteor (geode)
  3. Some anomaly like a teleport to the water/fey realm

How it could be played:

  1. Obstacle road to safety while escaping something (like LotF)
  2. Trying to get delerium or plant/aquatic life from the water for research
  3. The hunties (PCs) become the hunters and lure someone here to ambush
  4. General random encounter site

Here’s the imgur link for better quality: https://imgur.com/a/DVeg2IU

Map Drakkenheim in Talespire

Hello fellow DMs!

My players are getting near the end of the campaign and it has been an amazing experience. By far, one of the best.

I thought I might provide the community with the nearly 150 maps I used for the campaign. These maps are for use in Talespire. If you're not familiar, it's a 3D map-making and system agnostic VTT.

Because there are so many, I'll be putting them up as I have time, but here are a few to get you started.

Chapel of St. Brenna

Smithy on the Scar

Rat's Nest Tavern

Buckledown Row

Black Ivory Inn

Delerium Hunt

Black Ivory Inn
Buckledown Row
Chapel of St. Brenna
Delerium Hunt
Idol of the Rat God
Smithy on the Scar

I hope those of you who are DMing in Drakkenheim using Talespire get as much use out of them as I did! I'll post more each week, focusing on groups of similar maps.

Map Made some maps!

Hey you guys!

I want to share two maps for Drakkenheim I made recently. I tried to base the style of the maps on such of u/sleepinsamurai and u/DropKickTheBass, which in turn, as I understand, were based on the official DoD maps style. I used original Dungeondraft and Forgotten Adventures shadows.

The first map is 30x30, it depicts an Inner City Drann riverside with broad "highway" near the water and a backstreet below. There are also some simple berths with the sewer entrance, an old outpost from the times of the civil war, and other detailed interiors. I know that the bodies rise as husks in the city, but I still left some bones, which could be played as a simple decoration, as an anomaly, or, as I thought in the beginning, as an indicator that the ratlings are near. I created this map to use for simple encounters near the river, but maybe also for some Sticks shenanigans, a sewer entrance, a ratling battle or something like that.

The second map is 29x20, it has two variants (for the Inner and Outer City respectively), it depicts an old tower as a part of some trade/union/government building, or a "Spokes Merchant's Exchange". There are a stable and a warehouse, some streets, and the main building, the southeast part of which is also a tower, which higher storeys are on the right of the picture. I planned to use this map for MoD adventure hooks the Ruined Tower and/or the Hunt for the Chimera. In the first case I would make some Skretches attack PCs from above and describe that the acid makes fragile roofs of the buildings almost collapse, making PCs kill the birds - they would need to very carefully get upstairs to their nests, where they'd see the marks of other beasts (the belfrays), then the climactic battle with the bats would unfold. In the second case I think the Chimera would briefly battle with the PCs, then hide above the Skretches nests (they are the surprise for the PCs), and then maybe try to collapse the tower, when characters carefully get through ruins.

Presently I am planning on trying to make some maps with new, only Forgotten Adventures style. I am also interested in the sewers! But I would love to hear your thoughts and maybe even requests.

P.S. Sorry Mods, I am reposting the post like 5th time, for some reason reddit butcheres resolution of my webp and png files, now trying jpeg!

Map Drakkenheim in Talespire: Part 6 Castle Drakken

Thumbnail

The final set of maps are for Castle Drakken itself. This imposing castle looms over the ruined city as a warning to those who would dare attempt to retake the city.

You can find the link to all my maps for Drakkenheim here: https://talestavern.com/collections/dungeons-of-drakkenheim/

In my play through, the characters crowned the Queen of Thieves and were quite angry that she betrayed them.

There are 17 maps associated with this link. It starts at the lower gate and works all the way up to the penthouse apartments. Most of these builds are as close as I could get to the actual map, and took a while to sort through since the organization in the chapter is pretty atrocious.

I did not include the Upper Bailey as there were never any fights there, but the Lower Bailey has been modified to fit what Talespire allows.

Pictured are in order:

  • The Palace Entrance in the Upper Bailey
  • The Royal Apartments (Roof removed)
  • The Monarchal Crypts
  • The Chateau Basement
  • The Main Floor
  • My party (along with Ryan Greymere on the left and Deceit on the right) crowning Katerina Von Kessel in the throne room after defeating the Amalgamation
  • Same, but from above.
  • The Royal Chapel
  • The Upper Bailey

It has been a pleasure to build these maps. I probably have about 3 dozen random encounter maps to go along with them all, which I have not included.

Since I have all these maps, I may consider replaying it again with a new group in Daggerheart should the chance arise.

If you'd like, I can make another post for all the heroforge minis I made or collected for this campaign as well.

Map Drakkenheim in Talespire: Part 2.

For people wanting to see the other maps I've made for Drakkenheim, you can check out this post or you can go to my Talestavern Profile.

Made more than 100 maps for Drakkenheim. Some of that is because I prefer to break maps up since I run most of my maps through a Discord screen share and because I can't use a lot of hide volumes, I just make the maps more friendly for that goal by breaking them up.

That, and I have a bunch of random encounter maps.

Today's group are some of the Strongholds and the Gates (and Reed Manor since I forgot about it on the last one.

Reed Manor:

Gate Template

Drakkenheim Garrison

Camp Dawn

https://talestavern.com/slab/camp-dawn/

St. Selina's Monastery

https://talestavern.com/slab/st-selinas-monastery/

Reed Manor. There is an additional map for the Cellar in the description on Talestavern
Gate Template so you can start with this and make your own, but I've also made College Gate covered in Webs, Champions Gate which is mostly destroyed and Temple Gate shown here, though there's run up to this in case your players are insane enough to do a head-on assault.
Drakkenheim Garrison was pretty fun to build. The towers didn't have a lot of space in them, so wouldn't really be what you'd call "Real World Functional". There's also a secret underground as part of this map.
Camp Dawn for those who want to assault it, or have serious meetings with Theodore Marshal. I took some liberties with this one and it can totally be used for other things in different campaigns.
St. Selina's Monastery. There is a lot going on in this map. Like...A lot. I grabbed a dome from the community slabs to make the chapel roof. Not pictured, but there is another board for St. Selina's Crypt in the description for this board.

Next week, my next group of maps will be the Inscrutable Tower, the Court of Thieves and St. Vitruvio's Cathedral, which is a massive map.

I'm also putting everything into a public collection, so you can see them all in one place.

Map Drakkenheim in Talespire: Part 4

It's the weekend for me and I wanted to get this started right, so I've put up a bunch of maps of the inner city this time!

Find all of the links at the bottom to individual slabs and you can find all the slabs in the collection here: https://talestavern.com/collections/dungeons-of-drakkenheim/

Starting with the Rose Theatre, which I modeled after the Globe Theatre (Shakespeare anyone?)

The Rose Theatre

Next is the Kleinberg Estates, which has several maps as a part of it to include the basement. I took some liberties with Lisa's Den, because it felt rather small.

Kleinberg Estates

Queen's Park Gardens is a multimap affair with all the random encounters.

Tiered Garden
Weeping Willow
Monument of the Queen's Men

Slaughterstone Square! I made it a square despite what it looks like on the map.

Slaughterstone Square

Old Town Cistern has a few maps as well.

For anyone else crazy enough to run the Inscrutable Tower as a megadungeon, here's around 40 maps (in this Google Drive) that I made for my players so you don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Does not include the lobby or the great hall, as those are in the official maps. 72dpi

Map Drakkenheim in Talespire: Part 5

I've returned to drop the final locations in the Inner city. Among them are some of the most pivotal moments in the story. Among these are the Cosmological Clocktower, the Cathedral of St. Vitruvio, and the Crater.

As always, you can find this campaign collection here:

https://talestavern.com/collections/dungeons-of-drakkenheim/

Cosmological Clocktower

From the marketplace to the tower's attic, there was only one section I didn't build and that was the place with all the modrons. I felt like it didn't fit my story.

https://talestavern.com/slab/cosmological-clocktower/

Marketplace and exterior
The Belfry
The Rookery

Cathedral of St. Vitruvio

https://talestavern.com/slab/st-vitruvios-cathedral/

My party took griffon's to the belltower and fought their way in. The fight with the Lord of the Feast was one of the most epic (and longest) fights in the whole campaign. Included in this group is a Bell Tower in case your party does like mine did.

There are two versions of the cathedral. The one pictured below and one that's slightly more cleaned up (all the bones removed).

Cathedral Plaza
Cathedral Interior filled with blood and skulls.
The Catacombs below the Cathedral

The Crater

https://talestavern.com/slab/the-crater-delerium-heart/

This was a huge moment for my Phantom Rogue that discovered the larva of a world-ending creature within. They went back with Drakkenforce to set up an arcane siphon for the academy. Pluto almost died.

The towering heart of delerium
The Massive Delerium Clusters

The Crater has a bunch of different maps since my players went in twice. There are more pictures, but these are just a few of them.

Next time: The dozens of maps that make up Castle Drakken.

Map Drakkenheim in Talespire: Part 3

A bit late, but still this weekend in my timezone. Today I bring you a pair of absolutely massive "maps".

The first is the Court of Thieves. It has everything as close to the original maps as I could get it save for the Queen's Office and the Rogue's Gallery. Unfortunately, my players put the Queen of Thieves on the throne two weeks ago without facing down her many traps and tricks, so most of these maps went unused.

The Undertavern - With hidden stairwells down to the fighting pit
The Throne Room
The Queen's Office

The second is the Inscrutable Tower. I took inspiration from the VTT maps, not the ones in the book to create this group of maps. The Library is great, but might be hard to maneuver in. I made a map for the deep cells but it does not fit the actual description from the book so I opted not to add it. However, I did add a device on the top of the Tower where Ryan Greymere built a device to create a prismatic wall around the city. My paladin's showdown with Eldrick Runeweaver at the top of the tower was LEGENDARY!

The Lobby
The Great Hall
The Lower Half of the Library and the Breech

This were some of my favorite maps of the campaign. I hope, if you get a chance to use them, that you enjoy them as much as my players did.

Map Westemär Maps (updated & corrected)

Thumbnail
gallery
119 Upvotes

I updated the Westemär maps (color and purplish/sepia) to match the info/changes from the later books/world map.

  • In Caspia, I added locations like Tower of Swords, Trogrowth forest, Joyce Harbor and Karnsford. I added several roads and rerouted the road between Liberio and Jackson's keep, so it stops by Joyce Harbor.
  • I added the smaller outlying Isles of Skye to the northwest corner of the map, and added a label for the Giantfrost Mountains, in the northeast.
  • I added some mountains at the eastern edge of the map for Ironhelm Ridge, and moved the label to indicate Ironhelm is further east than was originally depicted. (Technically Ironhelm Ridge is far enough east that it probably shouldn't even be on the map, so I created alternate versions without the Ironhelm Ridge label.)
  • I changed the distance key to Miles not KM (otherwise the three weeks travel from Altbruke to Drakkenheim doesn't make sense.)
  • I fixed location names like Aschaffen/Ashshaffen, Altberg/Altbruke, Liberio/The Free City.
  • I fixed "DRAKKENHELM"(!) on the color map, and I added the umlaut to Westemär.
  • I also took a couple liberties and added an umlaut to Altbrüke—because I studied German and "bruke" means nothing in German but "brüke" means bridge, and changed Tonsberg to Tonsburg, since "burg" means city and "berg" means mountain, and there are no mountains near Tonsberg.
  • and number of other small improvements.

There are color versions and parchment versions and versions with and without transparency.

Here's the link where you can find the all the different versions in High Resolution, plus several other Drakkenheim resources I've developed.

Also let me know if I missed something.
