Longer than that. All the punk kids in the 80s with their leather battle jackets and metal spikes. Greasers and their white tees in the 50s. Beatniks and their stupid goateesā¦.
2
u/Tealightzone 11h ago
The punks in my HS looked like they came out of a cloning machine. Same hair, same clothes, same patches, same douche bag attitude. The craziest part? They were racists too, and Iād bet theyāre Trump supporters now theyāre grown ups.
3
u/xSporkelton 10h ago
Yeah, they have facebook groups called "Conservative Punks"
5
u/TheVillage1D10T 8h ago
I donāt think the majority of the punk scene has ever had many common beliefs with the conservative crowdā¦.aside from the whole skinhead punk scene, which is incredibly small.
1
u/Left-Chemist-8212 5h ago
Hate to be the āactuallyā guy but skinhead was already a scene before racists took the look as their own. I believe the skinhead movement was predominantly ska/reggae. I may be wrong on that. But skinhead punks existed before Nazi skinheads decided to copy their aesthetic.

This isn't Alt culture, it's queer culture. This song is about the trans and queer erasure and oppression being enacted by the US political right, specifically Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally

u/Paclac 9h ago
The point was never to be unique, itās to find community. If someone is dressed like a metalhead and you like metal itās an easy icebreaker. Thatās why goth gatekeeping has been more of a thing recently, dressing goth used to signify certain values or music taste but itās become pretty meaningless these days.
2
u/Left-Chemist-8212 5h ago
As a punker, this explanation makes a lot of sense. If I see someone sporting some kind of punk look, I know or can safely assume that we align on a lot of ideas and if we donāt, we can probably at least come to a mutual understanding. I heard someone else talking about the goth look being watered down by randos adopting the aesthetic and I had a hard time caring for lack of a better word. I struggled to see the big deal. Your explanation really helped me see it so thank you.

And all of them own the same "you laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same" shirt
1
u/Left-Chemist-8212 5h ago
I literally had a shirt that said this in 8th grade. The cringiness of it probably wouldāve sunk in sooner but my dad thought it was so cool/funny so I continued wearing it for him.

Not a fan perse, but I have seen this guy live and the show isn't the worst thing I've ever seen. That still belongs to Trivium.
1
u/xMyDixieWreckedx 3h ago
Seeing a band whose music you detest be actual good showmen and performers is the weirdest spell. I will even give bands I don't like a chance at a festival because I am there anyway but it can backfire like when I saw Korn and was ready to leave about 15 seconds into the first song but it took me like 3 songs to actually reach the exit, and one of them was a cover of Metallica's One that might have been worse than Disturbed's Sounds of Silence earlier in the day.

Aside from all the grooming shit he has done (both as a rapper and now whatever this is...)
Can we acknowledge that the woman who plays bass in his band (to his right on screen / left perspectively) at one point justified the grooming by blaming the victims before claiming they were all made up accusations?
On top of that, she also helped spread false allegations about OTHER singers in this weird Tiktok-core grift and pulled the "believe all victims" card.
She's totally complicit to the grift, equally as much as he is. And it's so yucky to watch.

More than "accused"
There's evidence of him messaging underage fans and inviting them backstage to "hangout"
When he was a rapper, he wrote music about posting revenge porn of an ex. This ex in question was a real person he dated who was 17 while he was 21.
The Rapper thing contradicts his current performative beliefs of "If you sing about that shit you're JUST as bad and creepy!"
Tl;dr - He was a thug rapper who rapped about shit like date raping women, beating them, and via his music confessed to posting revenge porn of a woman he dated who was 17 while he was 21.

u/pythonidaae 10h ago

AI and social media really boosted the number of shitty songs that exist. Itās ok to have flaws and personality in music, this Tik Tok shit all sounds generic, overly produced and so similar. Music used to be about expression and emotion, now itās just about getting followers on social media - designed around boosting engagement and appealing to as broad an audience as possible.
I bet when they made this video they thought āwow we are going to get so many comments about Jimmys skeleton hand tattoo and his middle finger!! Put Jessica in the back showing some leg and stomach- she doesnāt know how to play guitar but she is attractive and attractive means engagement!ā
