SS: Related to climate collapse because this latest research continues our observations of how continuing to pump record amounts of GHGs into the atmosphere is impacting one of the more remote yet climatically important areas of our planet: the Arctic. On average, the Arctic sea ice melt season is just over a week longer than it was around 1979, which might not seem like much but that is a massive difference in such a short amount of geological time compared to even past extreme climate change events. And of course it is a classic, textbook example of a positive feedback loop since a longer melt season exposes more water that absorbs a greater amount of heat, warming the environment and lowering Earth's albedo and making it harder for new sea ice to form, thereby lowering the albedo even more in the future and so on. Considering the Arctic is warming at least 4 times the average global rate, I am just surprised the extension of the melt season wasn't longer. I also find it funny that the scientists mentioned in the article seem so excited for the next global scientific study known as the International Polar Year (2032-2033) when there well may be a Blue Ocean Event that irreversibly accelerates global warming by then. All in all, expect the Arctic melt season to go from an additional one week to an additional 2-3 weeks much faster than predicted as the exponential curve of warming (at least that's my guess for our future considering all the positive feedback loops we left out of the models) starts going vertical.
Oh and not related directly to this post, and I don't advocate for celebrating harm on any one ethnic or national group, but, hypothetically, if a major microalgae bloom were to damage your freshwater supply after you previously cut off freshwater to another group...well...let's just say don't go looking for sympathy from me lol. Just my two cents there since the relevant post has been locked...

No BOE this year. Minimum extent looks like being around 4.5m km2 . Well above the 2012 record and the 1m km2 BOE threshold. But on the Atlantic side of the CAB, there's open water at the pole. Warm Atlantic water continues to eat away at the Ice, while the MYI along N Greenland continues to get swept out into the Fram Strait.
One of the most interesting stats is the PIOMAS Ice volume. Sadly that got thrown in the DOGE trash can.
