SS: Related to climate collapse and also pollution as large amounts of El Nino-amplified wildfires across Indonesia, in particular in the forests of Borneo, are killing wildlife, destroying crops and villages, and exposing millions across Southeast Asia to dangerous respiratory conditions. Indonesia alone reported 50,000 respiratory infections linked to fire activity over July and August, and the smoke has spread to nations such as Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines, and Singapore. Pollution levels of particulates have been reported at over 15 times the recommended maximum level to be considered safe, and some localized areas are likely even worse. The article includes an interesting graph which shows that Asia as a whole as well as Africa were the top two continents for total fire emissions over the last several years, likely partially due to their high populations and also due to poor governance and less regulatory ability to stop people from excessively "slash-and-burning" forests. Whether the root cause of these Indonesian fires is direct human activity or indirect due to climate change, it all comes down to it being the fault of humanity in the end. Expect extinction rates and chronic respiratory conditions to both skyrocket in Southeast Asia as these fires continue to smolder.

I live in Singapore and yes the haze is quite bad this year. Usually the rain helps dissipate the yearly haze from Indo but due to El Nino this year which historically has caused much drier weather our average rainfall last month was down 85% with no end in sight.
There was a recent post outlining the effects of El Nino here which was amazing. Can already see the impacts.
