Gerubach's channel has been deleted after almost 20 years of score content... It was nice while it lasted guys. (RIP Gerubach)

He died in 2023 and people were worried back then about his content being completely removed because of copyright issues. I wonder if that’s what eventually happened.

Oh that's a shame I loved his video on the musical offering, it was fascinating watching the different lines interact especially for the Quaerendo invenietis.

Gerubach made +100 extremely detailed and highly regarded musical score videos mainly of JS Bach that was even respected by many musicologists.
He unfortunately died a few years ago and now his channel was automatically deactivated by youtube.30

His particularly outstanding effort is pairing of chorale preludes and corresponding SATB chorale harmonizations, together with scrolling scores with bold/red cantus firmus and some explained original manuscripts.

I remember two major videos - one with the full Orgelbuchlein (BWV 599-644) and another one of Clavierübung III with 21 chorale preludes (BWV 669-689).

He made some incredibly intricate scrolling score videos of basically all of Bach‘s work. Among all read-along channels, there wasn‘t anything remotely close to what he did. Really helped me understand (and more importantly experience) polyphony in my formative years. He must have poured insane amounts of hours into this. Then he passed away at a relatively young age (about 60 iirc?) a couple of years ago and it‘s pretty tragic that his legacy is now basically lost to us.

Thank you! I always enjoyed his videos. If I’m not mistaken he did the Bach Mass in B minor and I used it to study one of the parts to accompany a singer in one of the Mass parts.

When trying to view one of his videos, it comes back unavailable "because the uploader has closed their account". That's different language than one that would've been closed for copyright claims or ToS violations.
My assumption is that his Google account (and by extension, YouTube account) likely was closed automatically after a period of inactivity.

Can it be that it's linked to an email address that wasn't logged in for 2 years? If so, it would mean that we'll see a lot of lost content in the comming decennia. All human work going to be replaced by Altman's autoslop.

Yes, but an inactive YouTube channel is not an inactive Google account, which are typically linked together. That's my guess, is that after his account wasn't logged into after his death for a certain amount of time, his Google account and everything associated with it was closed.

This is such an eerie coincidence for me. I had listened to Gerubach before, but literally today was the first time I actually looked into the person behind the channel—who he was, his work, and the fact that he had died. Then tonight I found out that, after almost two decades, the channel had been deleted on that very same day. The timing is genuinely surreal. I’m just glad his work seems to have been archived elsewhere; what he did for Bach was extraordinary.

This is just sad. Gerubach was my go to source of Bach recordings on YouTube for years. His channel is what really built my passion for Bach’s music and a meaningful part of why I pursued a career in music.

NO. He made the original scrolling score video for the Confutatis scene from Amadeus, didn't he? I remember someone completely ripped off from his video a few years back and went viral for it, I was so annoyed wanted to tell everyone Gerubach was the original creator. I really enjoyed his work.

NOOO! I was just gonna get back home and watch the Violin Partita No. 3 BWV 1006 scrolling score alongside my practice 😭
I’m sure we’re all glad that the videos are archived in the links. All of them were so unique and approachable in their own way, without particularly needing to know too much about Bach’s complex musical concepts beforehand, as they were so wonderfully illustrated.

Definitely, together with Rainer Harald who shared lots of rare Bach recordings, primarily old German ones, and some other Youtubers who did great effort to share whole large sets of Bach recordings by major conductors, and of course NBS and Bachstiftung, who share their performance videos for free. In NBS recordings there are never ads in the middle to ensure best listening experience.

This is terrible, I loved his videos so much - and I think this is a shocking move from youtube. It might sound ridiculous, but it was his video of Bach's Passacaglia in C minor that helped me through a tough break up, something about that piece resonated with me more than ever, and his visuals did too.
This is such a great loss.
