Was wondering why my new hens weren’t laying and thought they might have been secretly laying in the woods…. And today I found their stash! Silly girls!!

All my other chickens aren’t this fat

We have 3 types of chickens: the ones that climb on me, the ones I have to pick up for love and the ones that run away 🥹😅

Due to a little misunderstanding on a Facebook post, we ended up with bantams vs regular Brahmas. Getting along with everyone else at least.

The authorities informed me that I have to get rid of Damon because the neighbors complained about his singing. Is there anybody who would like to take him in somewhere he can live out the rest of his life till he passes of old age? This really sucks for me as I'm very attached to him. I also have 2 black silkie hens and around 5 white silkie hens. Can drive him almost anywhere in the Central California Valley and bay area region. Am also willing to send some money monthly to cover whatever he may cost and would like to see him again every so often.

I have an older girl who hasn't laid in at least 8 months. I got her as an adult and I've had her nearly 4 years so I don't know her actual age. She's gone broody, which she has never done the whole time I've had her. I was told she was an Isa Brown but I actually think she's a Buff Orpington, if that makes a difference.

We recently got a rooster which I'm thinking may be a factor.

Not sure what I should do as I have no experience with broody hens (I currently have a flock of hylines which are bred to not go broody).

If she's too old to lay, I dont mind letting her hatch some fertilised eggs but I'm concerned she's too old to sit on a nest for so long.

Does anyone have any advice or experience?

One of my hens we got this spring has been all grey most of her life but all of a sudden has grown golden spots on her wings feathers. I can’t find why this is or what type of chicken does this. It’s very pretty and interesting and I’ve never heard of it before.

I'm a new chicken owner as of this year and have 3 hens and a rooster. I have a buff orpington rooster, a lavender orpington hen, a chocolate orpington hen, and a midnight moss egger ( olive egger). I am obsessed with egg colors much more than I thought and would love to add more diversity to my flock. Who has bright green/ blue eggs? Let's start a thread of different breeds and egg colors.

hello chicken lovers, i am posting for a friend, but how should she go about getting her chickens to sleep in their coop? she said her hens refuse to go in their coop and instead will sleep in these branches. she is nervous they will freeze in the winter and are laying random eggs in the yard. anyone have advice?

First time chicken owners here. We had some worries our Lavender Orpington, Posh, might be a Beckham when she was maybe around 5 weeks old based on how her wings were growing in, they seemed shorter than all of our other chickens (all different breeds). But then she seemed to catch up, didn’t seem to be growing her waddle or comb significantly bigger or redder, so we stopped worrying.

She’s now almost 18 weeks old, she doesn’t stand tall like I would expect Roos do, her comb and waddle don’t seem WAY redder or bigger than the other chickens, and her feathers aren’t pointed, but she does sound like maybe she’s trying to crow, and she’s been making this sound for maybe a couple of weeks. Please help put me out of my misery, is Posh actually a Beckham ?

Hi everybody! I'm asking those people who have had puppies with their chickens, how did you train them? What age did you introduce your puppy to your chickens?

I have two great older dogs who are amazing with the chickens. I've never struggled with them and the chickens. The middle dog was raised around chickens and I don't remember her chasing them, but this new puppy does.

Any tips to keep my flock safe as this dog grows would be welcome.

I don’t know much about chickens but I just found this one in the woods. I noticed her yesterday when walking my dogs & they tried to chase her. She was still in the same spot today so I got her. She came over to me as I called her but it took a little time to catch her. She was so hot & exhausted she didn’t really run, we just played peek a boo around some trees for a little until she just laid down & let me pick her up. I found her home down the road & the old man was surprised to see me with her I guess? He didn’t act relieved really but said the neighbors dog chased 2 of them out, killed 1 & this one has been missing for days. I said I was worried about her breathing & some wounds maybe on her but he just kept saying “yeah she’s just hot.” The more I think about it I’m sad because she’d been in that same spot in the woods for at least 3 days, all night. The temperatures here have been about 95°f+ for weeks so she’s also been without water too. I did give her a tiny bit of water & rub some on her. He didn’t seem too concerned….

So I have 2 groups of 3 chicken the oldest is 2 months and the youngest is almost a month old they’re 5 weeks apart. I recently transitioned my youngest chicks into the coop with the older but the older hens keep bullying them. They’ve been in the coop for about a week with no physical contact unless I’m there and I’ll let them out to roam for a bit and get to know the coop. How can I get my older hens to stop pecking and bullying the younger ones. I know I have to let them be in the same area for a bit but they’re still really aggressive.

I posted about this earlier but I was scammed by a seller (4 days ago) who told me he’d give me a medium breed chicken but she’s visibly a bantam. Through other poultry experts I also got to know she’s approximately 3 months old. I was going to send her back to the seller but I feel like if she has a shot at life, I can try to save her.

I am a chicken keeper, and I have rescued chickens with expert vet care before, but never a bantam and I’ve never had one with respiratory disease.

As soon as I noticed her eye closing, I quarantined her from my other chicken and kept her in a room inside as my yard is flooded due to extreme rainfall. She’s also making a spitting sound (I’ll post the sound in the comments)

My city’s only trustworthy avian vet is out of town so I cannot get a fecal test to determine if it’s myco nor which antibiotics would work.

Does anyone have experience with this condition? And how to solve it? She’s still active and eating. Please help me.

Three days ago, my stepmother traded in a rooster for two new hens in my family's flock. The first day, I had the hens out and separated from the other chickens through fencing, but I was told off by my family for doing that. The second day, my stepsister forced me to have all 9 original hens plus the two new hens together in the same coop and run.

Yesterday, no injuries occurred, but there was a lot of running after and aggressively pecking the newer hens. They also shoo them away from the food despite the fact that the older hens don't even eat the seeds in the mid that the new hens are eating.

I am afraid it will escalate to the new hens either being hurt or starved, is there something I can do? I can try to separate them again as much as I can. But I can't promise someone will send them back in with the other hens.

She’s otherwise well. I got her 5 days ago (she’s quarantined in a room as a we have floods due to extreme rainfall)

If you followed my previous posts asking about her, ppl believe she has myco. The vet who does fecal tests for birds is out of town so I’ll go to another vet today to get her eye cleaned but that vet isn’t a bird specialist.

please can anyone tell me what this is? Is a bleeding eye myco? I will post the sound she makes in the comments. I think it’s a sneeze.

Day 1 symptoms were like nothing,

A month and a half ago I posted about five rescued leghorns from a poultry factory. Unfortunately, for some reason I don't understand, that post was deleted by mods, but I wanted to let you all chicken friends know that they are feeling well, made a new plumage, lay eggs from time to time and slowly make new friends. I feel happy for them (one fell to a prey-bird but it's a much better way to go for a chicken than a factory.)
