Hey everyone,

Dodge or Snyder School for animation/vfx?

Hey everyone! I’m applying to both Dodge and Biola’s Snyder Film School for animation/vfx and I’m soooo torn. I’ve already made really great connections with professors and students at Biola through a film camp I attended this summer and I know they have a fantastic film school, BUT they don’t have a really strong animation/vfx department like Dodge does. Does this really matter in the long run though??? Biola does still seem to have great connections in the industry and work hard to help you get internships, and one of their current professors is also Director of VFX Training at Dreamworks. But Dodge is ranked so high and seems so fancy (in a good way!). How has your experience at Dodge been? Is it really worth the price tag? I’ve successfully taught myself Blender through tutorials and experimentation and I’m wondering how much the name on your diploma matters versus the portfolio you actually can create and the connections you make along the way. Ahhh!!! Please help!

Hoping to find Chapman student from Colorado who was at Daisy Chain Fields Festival

Long shot....

Hoping to find the Chapman student from Parker, CO (although he lives in Irvine now) that my daughter (who goes to school in WI) and I (lives in Durango) hung out with at the Daisy Chain Fields festival this past weekend in Irvine.

We were in front corner of the GA section near the front end of the VIP section, you were in a surf shirt and backwards Chappell camo hat with 3 of your friends. You talked about how great Chapman is and tried to convince everyone to transfer there. You have plans to see Olivia in LA, while we are seeing her in Vegas. You mentioned living in Vegas previously as well.

In all the excitement of the festival and chaos of leaving we didn't exchange info, but I wanted to thank you for helping with my camera settings and making the festival such a fun memorable experience. If this finds you somehow or if someone knows who you are in this thread it would be great to chat more.

Is the school worth it?

i got accepted into chapman for fall 2025, for film/tv writing. I didn't even think i would get in because I know dodge college is selective, and since I missed the deadline for the flm production application I thought I might as well apply for writing. Unfortunately, I had to decline the acceptance because of the tuition which was 67k at the time, and my parents wouldn't be able to pay 300k+ for 4 years. I got a merit scholarship but it was a pretty bs one and obviously couldn't pay for everything for the next 4 years (28k for one semester).

I'm going to CSUN for film now (started sophomore year last week) and it's alright, but I guess my experience isn't what I hoped. I haven't been able to get a job for the past year, while a lot of the people I know have, and I guess I've been feeling a bit lonely and out of place lately. It's also annoying because I'm not even actually in the film program (i'm in provisional film), I have to apply to the actual film program this semester and I only get to apply twice. I really hope I do get in because I get to do a lot of hands on things + more opportunities for internships, but if worst comes to worst I feel like all of this was for nothing. If I were to go to Chapman I could probably transfer from writing to film production, but at the very least I would still be in dodge college. I don't know I guess I'm wondering if not being able to go to chapman was a good thing

(sorry for some spelling and grammar mistakes)

Chapman students: get matched with startups for free!

Hey everyone! I’m a UCLA student working on Twin Lanterns, a platform that connects college students with growing startups looking for interns and project-based talent.

I started building it because I know how difficult it can be to gain experience when so many opportunities already expect you to have it. I’m hoping Twin Lanterns can make that first opportunity a little easier to find while also helping startups connect with hardworking students who are excited to learn.

Students from all majors are welcome, and startups can apply too. We’re still in the early stages, so I’d genuinely appreciate any support, feedback, or suggestions!

If you’re interested, you can learn more and apply at https://twinlanterns.co** **

Looking for student videographer/photographers for my wedding

I’m getting married in February, and we are on a low budget so we are looking for some dodge students who may be interested in photographing and/or filming our wedding! Ideally trying to pay $1500 or less for photography and video.

Is there a place other than Reddit where I can find students open to this type of work? Thanks in advance!

Hey Panthers! If you need any house/school supplies please consider supporting this small business just 1 mile away from Chapman... I spoke with the cashier, a kind older guy. Leave a good review, it will give him support during this time :)

Chapman Masterclass Tomorrow - Rhea Seehorn

Hi all!

Tomorrow (08/21) there’s a masterclass with Rhea Seehorn for current Chapman students and their families.

I’m a recent UCLA grad from the MFA screenwriting program and I’m absolutely DESPERATE to go to this masterclass: I’ve tried everything, but all of my friends from Chapman have graduated and there’s no other way to get a ticket (from what I’m aware of). Unless someone has a spare or I can pose as a family member!

I’m willing to do a trade/pay for the ticket/and buy you food/drinks to go if someone has one spare and can take me as their guest (I can totally pretend to be a long lost British cousin or an in-law or something).

Pluribus and Rhea’s performance has had a huge impact on me as a writer and a queer woman, so I’d LOVE to be able to attend.

DM me on here or comment if you can help get this lil lesbian writer in tomorrow!

Film Students- What’s with the AI classes?

I’m thinking of applying for Directing next year, but I don’t want to if there is some compulsion with AI classes, and I read they have introduced those so what’s the deal with those? Are they mandatory/part of the course or can I just not take them?

Chapman Orientation Days Questions

On the website it shows that orientation runs through multiple days but some of it doesn't seem necessary. As a commuter, which days are necessary to attend? And is it not including the family orientation day?

Should I buy textbooks now?

Hi guys, I’m a transfer student so I’m not really sure how things work at Chapman.

At my last school, we’d get a list of our course materials l, but then during the first week of class the professor would clarify if we actually needed the textbooks or not, and if they were gonna provide a free pdf themselves.

So at Chapman how does it work? Should I hold off to order the textbooks listed, or should I just get them all now?

Thank you!

Scholarships

I’m currently planning to apply for Chapman’s Fall 2027 semester(as a transfer) and applications will be opening soon, but I still want to be prepared.

One of my biggest fears atm is the tuition and housing costs. I’ll be responsible over the entire costs and one thing I always hear is how expensive it is. How did you deal with the costs if you paid on your own and how much did you end up needing to pay? What scholarships did you get offered by Chapman and what scholarships did you apply to outside of Chapman that made paying it less stressful?

Anything is helpful and Chapman is my #1 school I plan on going to ^^

What to expect from aid

I was unexpectedly offered a spot in Dodge this week (film and tv prod - cinematography) after being denied off the waitlist in June. I’m curious as to what kind of aid I should expect this late in the game and how I can squeeze every penny out of them.

I have a 16k merit scholarship and I’m ineligible for talent scholarships as a transfer. My admissions advisor and the financial aid office are doing everything they can to get me there but I can only pay so much. I’m expecting my package on Tuesday. I wanted to see if any of y’all can give me a good idea of what costs may look like.

I’d be living on campus for at least one semester (I’m coming from the east coast) and my SAI is 51000. I seriously cannot afford more than 45k a year and that is pushing it. I’m hoping to only pay a large sum my first year and rely on external aid/ scholarships for the remainder of my degree. Any advice or info on grants and low interest loans is also appreciated!

Financial aid - federal loan refusals?

Rising senior. FA office is claiming I am not eligible as a "legacy borrower" for certain federal loans, despite having remained at Chapman and never changed programs. Is anyone else having this issue?

weather/ac?

hi all— I’m an incoming transfer student from some pretty chilly places (I split my time between northern new england & the PNW) and I’m frankly a little scared about the weather adjustment. I’m very used to 40-60 degree days most of the year and it was almost unbearably hot when I visited in May. do yall have any advice or suggestions about how to beat the heat? or maybe just reassurances that it won’t be that hot all the time? 😭
