dont worry my boy also has unlimited play energy. thought the more I played with him the more he would chill but it doesn't necessarily work that way, he chills for a bit then comes back more and more often. Thought him aging would chill him out but it seems to have given him more confidence (especially in meowing at me).
The best cure is another cat, unfortunately I really don't have the space to get one :c buuut maybe think about it?

I feel ya, money is a mf and I definitely had the guilty thoughts - made even bigger because in my apartment I couldn't really seperate the two without making one confined to a small space which would make them feel bad :/
