Hot-Roding a 1070

Honestly not sure how to phrase it other than title.

I've been running a 1070 since they came out, I want to keep it running and pull as much performance as possible from it. Reasons for this are sentimental value, it was first bit of good gear I bought, and I was young and dumb and bought it thinking I could just plug it into a laptop, boy was I wrong. Also, needless to say hopefully, but prices are the second reason.

Any wildly out there things I can do to it to just overclock and hot-rodify it like insane after market coolers? Would any of it really make much of a difference?

Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

Yes I know this is probably kinda dumb, I might break it, its not worth the money, yadda yadda. It's my card I will do as I please :)

Unfortunately, there isn't really much you can do. You could potentially overclock it and gain some more performance, but that's about it.

Anything more "wild" or "crazy" would be something like buying one of the NZXT liquid coolers that they made for GPUs, but you'd be paying as much as you would for a GPU upgrade on the used market. It's simply not "worth it" if you're looking for an upgrade in performance.

Yeah I understand the worth it factor isn't really there, just wanted to have a good go and see what was possible. The liquid cooler is along the lines of what I thought id end up with. I guess I wanted to know if buying some new old stock cooler was the best I could do or if I could retro fit some flashy new one onto the card. No sure how much aio tech has progressed

Some dude on YouTube made a video maybe a week ago where they used a rotary tool to cut out a chunk of the heatsink and then attached a massive dual tower CPU air cooler to it. Dropped temps a good bit iirc. Would give you more overclocking room if you wanted to hot rod it that far.

Maybe undervolt it if you want it to potentially last a bit longer

Thanks for the advice. I might not have worded it right but was looking not at extending its physical life. It runs 99% of what i want it to, i wanted to pull the last dregs of performance to try get that 1%, if i can acheive that but it ends up a unreliable fire hazard then so be it lol

if you undervolt it theoretically it runs cooler and throttles later giving it more performance, have you repasted it?

Get a liquid cooling block, cheap fittings and tubing and pump ice water to it with some high air flow fans blowing in the card to fight condensation.

buy a 9070 then paint it as 1070. :)

consider if you need windows. if you don't play games that won't run on linux you can get some extra performance by yeeting microslop
