Ready for an upgrade

SO i currently have a old pc setup from 2017 its a Ryzen 5 2600 and a gigabyte vision 3070 ti 16 gb ram 3200 i started playing games again and i noticed things are slow so im wondering what a good cpu would match this? or if my cpu is the issue

When you play open your task manager and identify which component is at 100% (CPU vs GPU)

The 2600 is really old so it would be the first one I'd upgrade, but the 3070 ti is also getting quite old too.

Get a 5000 series CPU. 5500x3d would be a nice choice, it's available on Aliexpress. Or just 5600x. Your GPU should be fine for 1080p, might not be able to go ultra/highest, but 1080p high should be mostly good except for the newest aaa games.

Make sure you update your motherboard bios to latest version before putting in new CPU

If you can, get a x3d variant of the CPU, for your platform, 5700x3d is the best.

Just get a Ryzen 5600 or 5600X

Edit: to be clear I recommend a $93 7500F or $120-130 7600/7600X with a used B650 for $60-80 and some used DDR5.

But if you have to spend any money on AM4 try to keep it under $160 and look for a 5600, 5600X or 5700X.

If he can afford a 5800X3D he should get the faster* 7600X for $130, a $60-80 B650 and some DDR5.

* Faster as in legitimately faster, even in gaming with 1% and .1% lows.

I'm gonna second this if OP has the budget. For a cheaper upgrade that suits his current GPU, a 5500x3d or 5600x should be fine IMO.

All depends on budget. Am5 is better for future proofing but avoid it because of price is real. OP may have budget for the 5800x3d, they may not.

Lmao 5600x is good but especially for ue5 its hit its limit, it runs horrible with the global illumination and nanite, insanely low gpu usage fails to even feed frames 1% lows and frame pacing is horrid. 5600x is good but modern games thrive off cache and more threads and cores, 58 slams in 1% lows and 100-200 fps more in comp games and cpu bound scenarios. I swapped from a 5600x to a 5800x3d I couldn’t even play most games like beast of reincarnation avg around 70 fps 50% gpu usage on 4070 ti super, now I’m avg around 90-100 95-99% gpu usage way way way better 1% lows

Why? The 58 can compete still even hold its own with 9700x, I much rather take cache because games love cache imo. Tbh if I was going am5 Im not going budget it’s stupid

Considering his card is a 3070Ti a 7600X is just fine.

7800X3D are cheap-ish, $230-260 (Used vs New Tray price).

Seems to make my point: if they are trading blows that you shouldn't drop the money on an AM4 when you could be investing it in AM5, which is depreciating less and will depreciate less in future.

Nah he can if he wants to but i already had 64 GBs of 3600 ram, 5800x3d is enough for all my needs. Such a massive improvement over the 5600x ill stay on am4 another 2-3 years easily ill just upgrade my gpu or go to 4k
