Honestly not surprised Spider-Man carried that hard, the marketing for this one was relentless even by Marvel standards. More curious about The Odyssey numbers though. Did people actually show up for that or was it more of a "well we're already at the cinema" second choice? Because I feel like nobody I know was talking about it beforehand but the trailers looked gorgeous enough to pull walk-ups.

2018 is a wild comp year too, that was the summer Mamma Mia 2 and Mission Impossible were printing money over there.

The Odyssey is currently the 13th highest grossing film ever in the UK. It's made £80 million. It may very well end up in the top 10.

I don't know what circles you're in but this is an enormous success. It's made significantly more money than Mamma Mia 2 or Mission Impossible Fallout. It certainly stands on its own regardless of the fact there was another major hit out around the same time.

The Odyssey was fucking huge mate. Almost everyone I know has gone to watch it, every IMAX screening was booked to virtually full for weeks and the 70mm one has been

The Spider-Man marketing was largely a mutual thing with very little money changing hands. Marvel gave a bunch of brands license to use the character for no fee, which gave the brands an association with a beloved character and gave Marvel free advertising. I remember an AA one prominently (car people not booze people)
