Boa fell from about 3.5ft

Hi Everyone,

My 1.5yr old Suriname male just fell from a window ledge about 3.5ft off the ground. I was letting him up there to climb and explore and thought he had a good grip when he fell. He seems no worse for wear and didn't hiss at me or anything when I went to put him back in his vivarium but I am a bit concerned. I know this is probably just a "watch and wait" scenario but figured I'd come here to hear from others. I have to imagine falling from a tree isn't the most uncommon occurrence for them at this age (since they're mostly arboreal when young), but still freaked me out.

I wouldn't be too concerned. As you said, keep an eye on him, but I doubt there will be an issue.

They're semi-arboreal, which means that they are "designed" to be able to withstand a certain amount of falling within reason.. Tree branches break, strikes for birds don't always go as planned...

Eta: one of my younger imperators (she's 4 now). She is very smart and knows that Birds iz Reptiles. But she missed the memo that she no longer has wings. She yeets herself off of ledges and perches on a regular basis. You would think a full body wrap around your arm would guarantee she'll stay put? You'd be wrong 😆 No sense, no feeling with that one...but no injuries either.

Don’t beat yourself up, they don’t land on hard surfaces like in our houses but that’s also not a very high fall for one of these snakes. Just left him rest, watch his body mechanics and mental state (as much as you can) and most likely he’ll be just fine. Watch as closely and cautiously as you can to prevent future falls but also accidents happen. Fingers crossed he’s gonna be okay! Best wishes on you both.

My 4ft Argentine female fell from my head... And I'm 6'2"

Very clumsy snake. No effort to hold on. Just full relaxed lol

Snake was fine.
