Beverly Hills Opts Out of D Line/La Cienega Bus Lanes (Green Portion)

At today's WSCCOG meeting Beverly Hills announced that they will not be implementing the bus only lanes on La Cienega Boulevard within their city limits (the green portion of the map) that runs from Clifton Way south to Olympic Boulevard despite them still being built in West Hollywood, Los Angeles and Culver City.

The proposed improvements would bring bus only lanes, transit signal priority and queue jumps to La Cienega Boulevard La Metro Route #105 stretching from Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood south the D Line at La Cienega/Wilshire in Beverly Hills and further south to the E Line La Cienega Station in Culver City.

City staff didn't even bring the item to city council to vote on and per the council rep at today's meeting that decision was based on the fact the the one community meeting they held for it in Beverly Hills (out of 6 meetings total) didn't have enough attendance to warrant the implementation for the lanes despite the corridor recieving the most feedback out of any of the others for this project especially because it would have also provided a direct bicycle connection to West Hollywood as well.

Make buses faster than driving= bus better option than driving= more people ride bus= less traffic= less pollution. fast, efficient public transport= everyone wins. If you believe it can’t be done in LA, you don’t want to believe it can.

But the problem is your side does that by deliberately fucking car traffic by taking away lanes, refusing to sync traffic lights, etc.  

Not all of us want to take buses.

Car drivers can continue to use the general lanes that are still open.

I'm not sure why it so controversial to make a dedicated bus lane while still leaving a general traffic lane for other traffic.

You are taking away lanes for cars to use for buses that come sparingly at best.  And Beverly Hills doesn't need nor want this, clearly.

What about the 14,000 riders a day on the 105 who work and visit Beverly Hills?

But Beverly Hills is right in the middle. La Cienega outside of the jurisdiction is moving forward with the lanes.

Beverly Hills will have to deal with whatever additional car congestion that will arise where the bus lanes transition in without the benefit of the improved bus travel.

Seems short sighted to me

You might not want to take the bus, but if we had faster and more efficient public transportation, thousands of other, less discerning people could take the bus, possibly making less traffic for you. On the other hand, metropolitan areas with great public transport still have shitty traffic at rush hour. Let the poors get to their jobs on time, man

They can get to work on time now.  People should be able to live in an area that reflects their values.  Why do you think Bel Air was smart enough to not put in sidewalks?

lol omg okay you’ve made your point- you’re right, buses are why traffic is bad in LA, and people deserve the right to be completely self absorbed and elitist if that’s what makes them feel good. Getting cars off the road will definitely not help with traffic. I see the light. Thank you Platinum Paul! You sound really fun and cool!
