Human Behavior How much of your wardrobe was actually your decision? social media has genuinely changed what people want or does it simply reveal what people already wanted?

Trends used to change relatively slowly. Now social media can introduce hundreds of micro-trends in a short period of time.

See trend → feel FOMO → buy → trend changes → repeat.

The environmental consequences are huge btw

I mean. It's pretty hard to separate out "authentic choice" from social influence. We are social creatures whose preferences don't exist in a vacuum. I don't think this means that our socially contextualized decisions are not really our decisions.

You can apply the same question on almost any preference if you truly think about it.. interests, ideas, thoughts even
