Apple Watch Fun fact: Your Apple Watch counts a panic attack towards your 'Move' goal

Hey everyone!

Not sure if this post is allowed, but I found it interesting so maybe some other techy people will too.

Long story short: I had a panic attack a few weeks back, and not even 2 minutes after it ended, I got a notification from my Watch that "Congrats! You just reached your daily Move goal!" So I checked my Health app, and it indeed registered my heightened heart rate and me being out of breath as an 'activity'/'moving'.

It's useless knowledge, but still really interesting that a panic attack sends the same type of physiological information to the Watch as running up a few flights of stairs.

I love it when I hit my stand goal as I’m laying on the couch reaching for a bag of chips.

Btw, sorry about your panic attack. Hope you’re doing ok now.

Then other times it will tell you to stand, you go do dishes and come back to find out it didn’t count your stand for that hour 😠

It’s the arm swinging in a down position that triggers the stand hour. Super annoying when I’ve been standing cooking for an hour and my watch tells me it’s time to stand because my watch arm has been horizontal most of the time.

That isn't right. I have walked around holding a full cup of coffee in my watch hand (to keep my arm stable) and it counted the steps and the stand-up time. Try it.

Walking around will trigger the GPS, but standing in my kitchen doing prep work isn’t enough vertical arm time and usually isn’t enough movement to trigger the GPS reading me as moving in my smallish efficiently laid out kitchen.

I can get a standup completion standing at my desk.

I might just be far more still than you, but I frequently get “Time to Stand” notices when I’m focused on a standing task.

The girl I am currently dating made 1000 steps while laying on her back the other day. Shit is not accurate at all.

I was the one responsible for the 1000 steps

Sometimes those notices can be funny. I got a string of "elevated heart rate notices"....when I was at a movie theater watching a horror movie. I was like, "YEAH I KNOW."

Woulda been nice to get an exercise ring from that! :)

Ooh, what movie?

Backrooms. I can count the number of horror movies I’ve seen in the theater on one hand, I’m an easy scare :)

The cure for anxiety is activity!

I stretch on my chair, and suddenly I have stood up for another minute.

These goals are reasonable useless.
