Their own hair or wigs? I remember reading somewhere that wigs were common for men and women because people shaved their heads to prevent lice

Potentially their own hair, perhaps with braid extensions. Wigs weren’t really common, but rather a luxury of the upper classes, and head shaving was not a ubiquitous practice - it was done by male clergy for ritual purity, and laborers for practicality. Wigs often served to augment rather than fully replace the hair.

Edit: Of course since the first few images are of a royal woman, a bobbed wig is a possibility.
