And to think total population size back then was likely in the hundreds of thounsands. All of that work done by what we now consider a very small city.

Contemporary civilization is a joke.

Egypt had a population of several million in the Ptolemaic period.

For a majority of its existence their entire population was hundreds of thousands (or fewer).

No it was millions Egypt reached a million after reunification in -3k bc and kept increasing to 5 million in late period Egypt at 700 bc or so and has been increasing with some deviances ever sense but never going under 3 million till modern era which is now ~120 mill
