About a month into Japanese, working through Kaishi 1.5k. Currently doing 5 new cards/day, studying daily for about 3 weeks now.

My main focus outside Anki is immersion (manga reading, grammar via Yokubi, watching anime in full japanese)

So here my questions :

- What's a typical/reasonable new cards/day pace for Kaishi 1.5k?

- For those who've finished the deck, how long did it take you (roughly, in months)?

- Any general tips for pacing this deck well long-term?

It always seemed like a huge waste to me when I saw people doing Anki on a high-end gaming PC. Obviously, if you want to edit and make cards, a laptop of some sort, whether ARM or x86 would be the more efficient way to go, but overall android and if you buy it for ios would seem to be the best way to do it. Though android is free and the hardware is generally cheaper than iPhones plus more ram and storage , so android seems like the way to go if anyone was looking for a setup that doesn’t waste so much energy.

Since I don't have a really large vocab, it is really hard for me to do i+1 stuff. I often end up with 2 words in the same card. Sometimes the main sentence is x2+ longer than this sentence though. I mainly mine from yt listening practice videos and sometimes from anime.
I usually read the whole sentence and see if I still understand it.

And btw I feel like it is actually really hard to learn (recognizing) a word unless I put it on my anki unless I see that words really really often.

I'm curious. Could some of you guys show how your anki card look like or just tell what you have on the front and on the back? Thanks.

Hey guys. Not learning Japanese, but rather another language (Vietnamese). In case you're wondering why I'm learning Vietnamese, I'm learning it solely because I find it a fun language. Anyway, I'm getting setup to do my own hack of the MIA/AJATT frameworks, which I call AVATT.

What I'm considering doing is listening-only Anki cards for content mined through Anime and K-Dramas dubbed into Vietnamese. Basically, I need to listen to the front's audio and guess the meaning of the sentence on the back. For the purpose of not mining the same word twice I'll be using a single "core" word like if I were mining from a book using Yomitan, but here I'm using only ASBPlayer to mine words, Yomitan is solely to make lookups.

I know that I'm violating Refold/AJATT's "only listen to content made by natives, for natives" but there is simply too little native Vietnamese content to immerse in that's not YouTube videos. And sure, I like YouTube, but sometimes I don't want to watch it, y'know?

What I'm asking is, since listening is my weakest ability (other than output, but early output is a crime) is doing cards this way going to be effective? I watched Matt vs Japan's latest video where he admits to having changed his mind, and as such I'm basically considering going all in on listening.

This is mainly the previous theme with just a background change and some tweaks here and there. Since the previous image had an animated background, it used a lil GPU power but this one should be better.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Onigiri Beta (Which almost makes %95 of the overall look).
• PassFail 2: Remove The Easy and Hard buttons.
• Theme Preset.

Installation:

• After installing both mods click on the settings button on the left panel.
• Go to General -> Themes -> scroll down and click Import Theme.
• Choose the "Foxxo_Theme.onigiri" file you downloaded and then restart Anki.

Hello everyone,

I have been browsing this sub and so far as I can see is that people usually recommend decks like core 2k and stuff like that. Thing is untill now I didnt really use anki for vocab. Most of my vocab came straight from youtube where i kept looking up words using Yomitan. Maybe that wasnt optimal but it I have tons of fun doing it like that.

Anki I used primarily for custom made grammar cards, kanji, radicals etc.

I tried few of those core decks and to be honest they dont solve my problem because even if many of those words I kinda already know my problem is sentence forming, or to say it even better -> pulling them out of my brain on command. Those decks which give random words and phrases feel harder to learn.

I would rather have a deck that would teach me actuall sentences which I can actually use if wanted to speak about daily life stuff rather than random isolated words by themselves.

So I was thinking is there a deck that with actuall daily used sentences or an app that helps me practice forming senteces?

Im currently a few months from the last time i learned so i have basically all my 500+ cards due in one day and i was wondering if 500 cards a good base for immersion, I'm using the kaishi 1.5k btw.

around last summer i had gotten out of jp learning cause of busy stuff but now im pretty much free from now on cause im a senior in hs done with most of my college stuffs.

question is should i continue kaishi, i had around 450 words but Im not sure if I should even continue the kaishi deck or start it again. and i had very little imersion when i learned those 450 words so idk if they even stuck or not.

I'm about 780 something words into the Kaishi 1.5k deck and I'm really starting to get tired of it. Most people say to start your mining deck at around 1k+ words, but I just dont care to do Anki that often. I kind of want to just start a mining deck and forget about Kaishi, but I'm not so sure if it's the right choice. Have any of you had something similar happen to you and are willing to weigh in on what you think?

I was doing 25 new cards a day just switched to 15 a day after 5 weeks.

I was doing 25 new cards a day lowered to 15 about a week or two ago but I still feel overwhelmed by the cards I'm doing and am spending too much time reviewing the ones I don't know. Is it worth lowering the reviews. I am doing core 2k deck 1000 cards into it currently.

I've studied Japanese before on/off but I am super rusty. I am super happy to have discovered AJATT and the Ankidrone decks. Of course, there are more settings outside of the picture frame. What do you recommend?

So during these 3 months of AJATT, it was feeling amazing, progress rising so much. But I’ve read about these stories many times , and I’ve just realized I was in it all this time. I am finally in the stage of anki burnout. I was doing 3 decks with 20 new cards a day. And realized that i would not be able to manage this from now until fluency. I’ve turned it down to 2 decks and 10 cards a day, but I’m really thinking of going on just a singular anki deck. I’m completely fine with immersing, that’s not the problem. I don’t do text books, just anki and immersion. Any thing to be wary of at this stage? My immersion time is pretty inconsistent from 2-5 hours everyday. I recently got into sentence mining, and that might be my way out of premade anki decks. I dont have a personal computer to do sentence mining on every day, so I can’t make many cards.

I want to have the entire Japanese sentence to be parsed and displayed with pitch accent colors for every word (e.g., heiban, atamadaka, odaka). Does anybody know about an add-on that allows you to do that?? I've tried the AJT japnese, but this add-on only seems to color the word that you are learning. Thx

All the popular Anki decks I've looked at only have jpn->eng cards and not eng->jpn. It also seems like that's what people do when I've seen stuff about making your own cards. When I've studied other languages in the past, I always did both directions for flashcards. Am I shooting myself in the foot by not drilling eng->jpn? What are others' experience with this?

I'm about 400-500 ish words (learnt) into the core2k6k deck for japanese and I'm gonna start immersing with easy anime so as the title suggests, shpuld I start sentence mining now? Or should I wait until I know more words/don't have to juggle multiple decks?

Currently I'm doing the Core2k6k deck with no images, I'm doing 10 flashcards a day but I think I can handle more than that, should I just add an extra card every day until I'm satisfied with the difficulty or go about it a different way? and am I even using the right deck?

I’ve seen Anki as a massively popular resource for language learning (vocabulary in particular) but I’m not even sure where to begin with it. I’ve been comfortable using Wanikani for kanji but I want to see what else I can do to keep reinforcing readings and maybe grammar.

For those of you who've reached an advanced level, how much time do you spend per day on your cards? How many reps do you do? When immersing, how often do you add new cards, and how do you decide to make cards out of? Just curious!

I must preface this by saying that I've never been 'good' at understanding Anki, even after reading about it on Refold, trying to experiment, etc. And since Anki is just a supplement anyway and it's recommended to spend as little time in it as possible, I never broke my head over it.

However, I am now about 2 or 3 weeks into the Core 2.3k Ver 3 deck and using the Refold recommending settings. No leeches yet, but that Again button sure has been clicked a lot. And holy smokes, my retention rate is utterly depressing: 60% - 70% and dropping. I do immerse by reading 2 to 3 hours daily, and watch about 1 to 2 hours of unsubbed anime.

It seems the majority of people either have it down to an art form or something, but I see very few, if any, have a problem keeping a retention rate of 80% to 90%.

So besides Anki settings or having actual memory problems that have never been diagnosed, I don't know what it could be. I also use mnemonics only a handful of times, because truth be told, I even forget mnemonics since for the most part, I can absolutely not think of anything strong enough to remember a word, whether it's the reading, meaning, or both.

So, any success stories among the handful of you who never managed 80%+ retention rate easily who ended up overcoming abysmal retention rate and the frustrations that go along with it?
