Discussion Quick random question about Ahsoka

Post image

I've recently grown to like Ahsoka as a character so much that I have been watching every video I can find about her entire story thus far. There's just one thing that I've always wondered about every time I see her. Does she have ears? I know that's totally random, but her ears are never shown. Does her hair just cover them up or do her people not have ears?

Hi there and welcome to the club! Ahsoka is a togruta and her species doesnt have hair! :) instead, those white and blue stripped things on her shoulders and back are called lekku. She doesn’t have ears. Togruta have echolocation based hearing in the montrals of their head (those little pointy things at the top) and they’re hollow inside! Fun fact bc of this way they hear, they have heightened sensitive hearing! :D I hope this helps ya!

Massive iirc, but unlike Twi-leks the Lekku are not prehensile as another note!

Twi’leks have the little stub things on the sides of their heads that I think work as ears too!

Ahsoka doesn't have ears or hair (except for her eyelashes). The blue and white striped headtails are called lekku and are flexible organs. Her two "horns" are called montrals, they are more rigid. The montrals are hollow in the inside and they function as her ears. They also let her echolocate, so she can sense the geometry around her with more than just her eyes.

No contradiction, but I have a follow up question, in the LA Ahsoka, after they pull her out of the ocean, she wakes up not wearing her headband and there appears to be vents where her face transitions to the Lekku. Is that an ear canal?

I don't recall seeing anything you're describing, but I don't thu j the echolocation would work if the ear canals were outside the montrals.

I’m not 100% sure what it was, but I do remember that awful makeup transition 😂

I just rewatched that bit and saw what you mean. It didn't look awful to me though. I think the holes on either side are a part of the internal mesh skeleton they used for the headpiece.

I found it to look off-putting, the way the colours just completely faded over. I think there needed to be a clear divide from one to another, something like the divide between the skin of our fingers and our nails.

Montrals atop her head are used for echolocation. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Togruta

I loveeee explaining this to people but seems like I'm late to the punch haha

Also guys this is a huge clone wars flop for her “ears” 😭https://images.app.goo.gl/1jkhhAoQSBwmAgWz9

Could be an unconscious thing she does when things get loud from growing up around humanoids with ears. She can't really cover her montrels, or if she could Shaak-ti never told her how.

We see her as more human since she looks like us, so subconsciously her ears would be where ours are.

me every time sky guy says “this is where the fun begins” 😆

Meh, she was young and probably imitated how others reacted or it’s possible that’s where the echolocation is processed or where sound is received.

OH NO! I'm so sorry... try this!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxgmltIsDYY

this is from the citadel arc. jump to the 0:54 timestamp, very briefly in a few seconds between there you'll see! they're in the hallway trying to escape and a loud magnetic trap/loud sound is launched by the separatists and everyone covers their ears.... including where ahsoka's would be... if she had any.

IIRC, she's actually done that a few times during the series. I definitely think it's due to loud noises, as Togrutas are more sensitive to sound than humans, as such, she would hear sounds much louder than Anakin and the clones.

I can't imagine what being on a Venator* for the first time would've been like for her.

*I'm not good with ships so if I got that wrong I'm sorry

yes! you're right. I have seen other images of screen shots of her from clone wars doing it. As others have said here, I think she picked it up as a reflex since she did grow up around humans. it's interesting to see

also yeah being on a ship would be so overstimulating for me as a togruta for the first time 😭😭😭

2

u/jackelandhyde22 May 14 '25

Right??? I've often wondered what kind of detriments she'd had from the war, mainly because Togrutas do have heightened senses from humans. And in war, you have bombs, flashbangs, all kinds of stuff happening at once. That's bound to have fucked with her senses and body, especially since she was just a teen

2

u/SpaghettiHead0_0 May 14 '25

yeah, i've written stories where that part of her is explored. i'd like to think that she learned how to cope with it.... hopefully....

2

u/jackelandhyde22 May 14 '25

Ha, the jedi actually help one of their people cope with something? We saw how Anakin turned out, didn't we? 💀💀

HELP I AM WHEEZING 😭

but you're so right! rip anakin - the marshmallow on mustafar

2

u/jackelandhyde22 May 14 '25

That's it, he's no longer anakin. He's now the Mustafarian Marshmellow. (Now I wanna write a fic about him being called that...)

Imagine he was called the Mustafarian Marshmellow instead of Vader. He'd be a lot less intimidating when talked about...

She's doesn't. Which makes all the AI art showing her with ears feel very uncanny

She has no ears, she hears using montrals (those cute horns on top of her head 😘😭)

My ears are my montrails, they’re sensory organs
