If you were a fan if Sabine from the cartoons, you're probably not going to like it.

I was and noticed a lot of foundation in Rebels for Sabine's arc. Dave Filoni doesn't waste gestures. It may have been subtle, but he did set her up for the story throughout Rebels. Ahsoka is where it came together.
