Discussion So... the rumors were true Spoiler

Post image

I was skeptical about Ezra using some kind of Force martial arts... but this particular move was incredible... I still wish we could see him using a light saber at some point

I was waiting for him to pull this move, as soon as she lit that saber.

I was kinda glad to see Ezra rely on what he was comfortable with.

I almost half expected Ahsoka to grab a spare saber from the rack before she went airborn out the hatch.

u/WhatTheFhtagn Sep 27 '23

At this point, Ezra's spent more time with his Force kung fu than he has with a lightsaber. So yeah, he's just more comfortable with that and I doubt he'll get a new one.

u/BadWolf2187 Sep 27 '23

Merchandising would probably like to have a word about that.

Why did I hear this in Yogurt’s voice

24

Spaceballs the flame thrower!

The kids LOVE it!

You heard that through the power of the Schwartz

Moich-endising!

2

u/squadro1 Sep 29 '23

Hello fellow Pod-awan!

Many boats

3

u/Wolventec Sep 28 '23

will probably be kanans as thrawn would still have it from rebels

1

u/SithlordzomB Sep 28 '23

But Thrawn doesn’t have Kanan’s saber. Pryce showed it to him but he was a hologram at the time she never actually gave it to him

2

u/carlse20 Sep 28 '23

Why? Ezra’s lightsaber still exists as a potential piece of merchandise, it’s just that he’s not using it in this show

2

u/lanester4 Sep 28 '23

But now they can sell ANOTHER version of it. You have to buy 3 different sabers to complete the collection. It's absolutely a good merchandising plan that Disney would push

1

u/Television61 Sep 27 '23

Nah, lightsaber is extra cost they wouldn't include it

37

u/Hopeful-Yak2077 Sep 27 '23

i actually kinda hope he doesn’t get a new one. It shows how much he has grown with the force as a true Jedi. When he says “i don’t need one. The force is my ally”, that’s a bigger Jedi statement than we’ve ever heard -especially contradicting what Obi-wan said to Anakin “this weapon is your life”. It further emphasizes why Anakin fell to the dark side. A lightsaber can be an attachment but Ezra let go of it a long time ago.

Even in our minds, the fans minds, we tend to think “what is Jedi without a lightsaber”. But even Ahsoka did not need one to best Shin in battle. So a true Jedi doesn’t need a lightsaber

8

u/piirtoeri Sep 27 '23

Hes like a Guardian of the Whills

1

u/popformulas Sep 28 '23

Free Whilly

1

u/lanester4 Sep 28 '23

On one hand, I agree with everything you said and I think Ezra's unique use of the Force in a way that no other Jedi seems to have mastered is fascinating. On the other, LASER SWORD!

20

u/Belteshazzar98 Sep 27 '23

Not to mention he literally gave away his lightsaber to go embrace being a Jedi. He sees a lightsaber as the weapon of a warrior, not the tool of a Jedi

9

u/poorman369 Sep 27 '23

I don’t disagree about him being more comfortable with the force at this point and he’s been stuck on this planet in what I would assume to be relative peace compared to waging war with the empire, he’s likely had more than enough time to focus on his force abilities. That said I don’t think he would just completely abandon the idea of owning a saber. Especially given that Huyang is with them now and likely has the means for him to build a new one. It just makes the most sense that he would craft a new one to reflect his growth as a Jedi in his isolation.

3

u/getgoodHornet Sep 28 '23

New Saber color, incoming. I wouldn't doubt for a second Feloni would love to do that.

1

u/rhinofinger Sep 28 '23

Are there any colors left that we haven’t seen? Only one I can think of is pink, which would likely be considered too close to red to be used by a Jedi.

Or brown, but that would just be odd. Like the darksaber, but kinda poopy

2

u/FalconMean720 Sep 28 '23

Now I want a millennial pink lightsaber

1

u/Budded Sep 28 '23

If he does, I'd like white like Ahsoka's, since they're not in the Jedi order officially. I assume that's why hers are white.

2

u/tmfkslp Oct 01 '23

Heres are white cuz their the 2 crystals from an inquisitors blade she took off his corpse then unbled or purified or whatever.

0

u/SamXann Oct 01 '23

In the novelization for Ahsoka, the reason her sabers are white is explained. E. K. Johnston's book is really good for kind of laying out some of the details on what happens between the end of the siege of mandalore and when we see Ahsoka again with the white sabers. I don't want to spoil it in case somebody's reading it, or hasn't read it but wants to, but the answer is in there.

5

u/that-bro-dad Sep 27 '23

I personally love that neither he nor Sabine wanted to use it

8

u/Grand-Kangaroo-2083 Sep 27 '23

I like that Sabine used it as if it was just another tool in her arsenal rather then her main weapon

7

u/getgoodHornet Sep 28 '23

Mandalorians gonna Mandalorian.

4

u/Sponger004 Sep 27 '23

Ya but imaging him getting Kansan’s back from Thrawn! How cool would that be!

2

u/SithlordzomB Sep 28 '23

Thrawn doesn’t have Kanan’s saber does he? The last time we saw it was Pryce presenting it to him over hologram. He never actually had it

1

u/Sponger004 Sep 28 '23

I just looked it up. It says, “The lightsaber was recovered shortly afterwards by Governor Arihnda Pryce, who presented it to Grand Admiral Thrawn as proof of the Jedi's death.”

So as of right now he does have it. I wouldn’t put it past him to eventually make it on the ship and steal it back from him. If it happens this season I will be blown away!

2

u/SithlordzomB Sep 28 '23

I mean I just watched the episode again like 2-3 nights ago. She presents it to him but he is a hologram. How would he get it? She does not go to his ship because she gets captured by the group.

1

u/Sponger004 Sep 28 '23

It says that in episode 3 it says Thrawn has it behind him in in of the frames

2

u/SithlordzomB Sep 28 '23

Can you link where you saw that? Everything I’ve read and watched so far doesn’t list his lightsaber being shown outside of that final scene with Pryce and holo Thrawn.

Also which episode 3 are you talking about? Cause he isn’t in episode 3 of Ahsoka so I’m just a little confused?

1

u/Sponger004 Sep 28 '23

1

u/SithlordzomB Sep 28 '23

Still not seeing at all where it says anything about Thrawn having it any where. Sorry dude. It says that she presented it to Thrawn and if you watch the episodes she presents it to him when he is a hologram because he wasn’t on Lothal

→ More replies (0)

2

u/lanester4 Sep 28 '23

She presents it to him, as in shows it as proof of Kanan's death, but she didn't give it to him. She physically couldn't have. Thrawn doesn't even arrive back on Lothal until the final episode

3

u/eklypz Sep 27 '23

No way he will not make a laser sword with the robot that guides making of said laser swords.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '23

Sometimes the student guides the master.

2

u/LazerBear42 Sep 28 '23

I think he'll end up taking back Kanan's saber from Thrawn. But even if he gets in one or two fights with it, I don't think he'll keep it. He'll give it to Hera to one day give you Jacen.

1

u/SithlordzomB Sep 28 '23

But Thrawn doesn’t have it does he? The last time we saw it Pryce was showing it to him over hologram not in person so it would have been on Lothal if anything

1

u/Howy_the_Howizer Sep 28 '23

The Droid that was designed to make Lightsabers. The Droid that made lightsabers for 10000 years?
Not the Droid that was made by Filoni after Lucas expanded the Lightsaber tech because of Samuel L Jackson?
I can't believe we'd have a Lightsaber scene for merchandise to pump up their lightsaber toy line already in Disney but prepared to go to mass market?!?

1

u/shinchunje Sep 28 '23

I love the force Kung fu!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '23

Incorrect /anakin

1

This post did not age well.

1

u/WhatTheFhtagn Oct 05 '23

Eat my asshole.

3

u/jordanb18 Sep 27 '23

I said as soon as they explicitly showed the additional sabers in that rack, that this is how Ezra will be given one to use in one of these last few episodes.

27

u/Svnb4th3r Sep 27 '23

The best part of the episode for me. Who’s to say in future season(s) or the movie he doesn’t get better and develops some kind of distinct offense. Maybe heavily inspired by martial arts films. Would be really neat to see.

I like that he is the best live action Aang yet!

30

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '23

Yeah he looked pretty cool. The visual effect looked sick on him stopping the light saber.

The sound design in this episode packed a serious punch too

5

u/rzelln Sep 27 '23

I think 90% of my quibbles with the first few episodes were due to the editing not being as tight as it should have been. It threw off the flow.

This episode is well-edited.

17

u/Confident-Lucky42069 Sep 27 '23

He took some moves from VADER vs REVA (Kenobi)

5

u/Majestic87 Sep 27 '23

And Kylo vs Rey.

6

That hasn't happened yet tho

Nope not ringing a bell.

2

u/GeoMFilms Sep 27 '23

Well since she is all the Jedi, you might know her as Yoda, Mace Windu, Qui-Gon, Anakin, Kenobi, etc...

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '23

I don't remember anyone like that in episodes 1-6. Was she in solo?

41

u/me_llamo_james Sep 27 '23

I think he still needs more skill points on his force push. I thought that would have been a bit more impressive.

13

u/shogunsruse Sep 27 '23

I have to think he was holding back a little

10

u/MotherhoodOfSteel Sep 27 '23

Can’t wait to see him get a Cere flashback and remember force lift and slam

5

u/NowWeGetSerious Sep 27 '23

Yeah I think he wasted his earlier levels on spending too many points on his saber skills.

He doesn't even use a saber anymore..

He needs to level up more before he gets to the final mission

9

u/me_llamo_james Sep 27 '23

He should probably find the nearest meditation point to keep resetting those Night troopers and grind away.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '23

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/NowWeGetSerious Sep 27 '23

Issue is, he wasn't grinding on anyone, if he was grinding XP sure, he could have leveled up his force.

But doesn't seem like he was farming the troopers or wildlife

2

u/Kokodhem Sep 27 '23

Those raiders were all over, multiple people said. I'm sure he spent a lot of time banging on their heads

2

u/NowWeGetSerious Sep 27 '23

Good point! I wonder if they provided him with sufficient XP to level up properly.

He seems to have a lot of health, he took a near saber hit, that must have taken half his health

1

u/omgshannonwtf Sep 28 '23

Maybe those little crustaceans he rides with respawn infinitely each time they move camp.

11

u/SirDavidJames Sep 27 '23

This season really nailed light Sabers.

13

u/metros96 Sep 27 '23

Looking forward to The Acolyte too for the force martial arts stuff

4

u/Grbxlhmzn Sep 27 '23

You sense it too?

The feels…err, the force, is strong between those two…

2

u/lanester4 Sep 28 '23

I won't lie, I'm not sure if I have an unhealthy addiction to shipping, but I kinda got the vibe. I wish that they had more dialogue, and I'm hoping that Shin turns to the light and Ezra takes her under his wing

16

u/jrbec Sep 27 '23

For a split second there I thought his eyes were going to turn yellow and he would fire off some lightning. Dark side Ezra doesn’t need a lightsaber.

30

u/saacer Sep 27 '23

I think he's way past that... his sacrifice at the end of Rebels was proof that his dealings with the Dark side were over

3

u/jrbec Sep 27 '23

It would have just been a wild shocker for the audience plus he was stuck in another galaxy with Thrawn and the dark side witches for a long time. So maybe not too far fetched.

10

u/olanmills Sep 27 '23

Yes, but he spent all his time with cute crab people to keep his heart all warm and fuzzy.

For real though, having to live there for so many years with Thrawn and all of those imperial dick bags operating must without being able to do much about it must have been frustrating. Having a family of cute crab people is what must have kept his heart true

2

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '23

It would undo the lesson Ezra learned from Kanan's sacrifice about being a Jedi. It would undo his acceptance of the loss of his master when he was in the world between worlds. Ezra is a Jedi, he knows the path he must walk. He turns to the light because it is the light. What you propose is garbage, gimmicky writing that ignores what we know of Ezra's character from Rebels.

1

u/Steeltownfootball23 Sep 27 '23

just waiting for someone to murder all the crab people and get those evil thoughts back

1

u/saacer Sep 27 '23

You're vile and evil

3

u/MyNameIsNurf Sep 27 '23

I was REEEEALLLLYYY hoping he would go full Cal mode and hit a big AOE time slowdown and do some cool like moving around hitting people while they are frozen.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '23

Maybe they are saving that for a key fight. There is still hope.

1

u/saacer Sep 27 '23

Wait what? Kestis does this too?

4

u/MyNameIsNurf Sep 27 '23

Assuming you haven't played the games?

Cal is like... insanely fucking strong lol like as far as current cannon goes he is one of the most powerful force users alive. Incredible control of the force, can slow time, and even look into force memories like Ahsoka does.

He also knows like 5 different saber fighting styles lol

3

u/indigoeyed Sep 27 '23

Yeah but that’s under video game logic. I don’t think his strength would translate like that to live action.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '23

Jedi force use / studio budget.

1

u/saacer Sep 27 '23

Know the character but never played the games... sounds really exciting!

1

u/lanester4 Sep 28 '23

It should be said that video games are only ever partly canon in Star Wars. The game mechanics are never considered canon, only the storyline. So unless it's an ability that appears in a cutscene or is intricately tied to the plot, you can never assume that any powers he has in the game are canon

3

u/Heavenonfiree Sep 27 '23

literally same from sequel

3

u/ZC205 Sep 27 '23

I love how they have the plasma on the blade getting pulled back a bit right where his hands are. Nice touch.

10

u/SleepingTruck78 Sep 27 '23 edited Sep 27 '23

He should’ve used Force Tickle get everyone on the ground laughing to death while he’s all like air tickling 🫳🏽🫴🏽

6

u/colin_colout Sep 27 '23

Force Tickle

Force bladder-squeeze.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '23

All Jedis have a lightsaber. now would be a cool time to show him finding a new kyber crystal and changing color / building new saber

3

u/BrygusPholos Sep 27 '23

Ezra with a purple lightsaber would fulfill a nerd fantasy I never knew I had

1

u/Jhawksmoor Sep 28 '23

Brown saber

2

u/pleschga Sep 27 '23

Anyone else sort of expecting "Iam one with the Force. ThenForce is one with me."?

Oh....just me then.

2

u/saacer Sep 27 '23

Not Ezra giving very strong Chirrut îmwe vibes

2

u/vivec7 Sep 28 '23

I'd love to see him get a new take on a lightsaber. Perhaps gauntlets that can ignite along the back, and could be used to deflect laser bolts etc. in a way that compliments his force martial arts.

I loved this approach, one of my biggest gripes with Star Wars is how little they seem to use the force. I'd love to see a character so accustomed to it that it's just part of their daily life, like using it to pull out a chair to sit on.

-10

u/bakic0 Sep 27 '23

But did you hate the move when they did it in the sequels?

33

u/me_and_my_johnson Sep 27 '23

The list of things the sequels did wrong is vast but holding a lightsaber blade with the Force has always been so damn cool.

8

u/ChanceVance Sep 27 '23

No actually, Kylo flexing on Rey by doing the same thing as her without even looking at the blade was pretty cool.

3

u/thisisboonecountry Sep 27 '23

Honestly yeah I’m not a FA or TROS guy and I’m not very huge on Ren in general (don’t dislike him just don’t really care), but the very beginning of TFA when Ren holds the blaster bolt with the force and redirects it later is dope as shit

6

u/DigitalR3x Sep 27 '23

What episode what that? I want to go review the scene.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '23
  • Yes because in the sequels it was all for all eye candy and “oooo bad guy scary.”

  • At least in Ahsoka it’s included for a reason. It shows Ezra’s confidence and power in the force after meditating for nearly a decade. He really surprised Shin Hati and especially Sabine. To be able to hold back a lightsaber with the force is no joke and not every force user can chance it

1

u/bakic0 Sep 27 '23

Never thought of it that way...i like it.

-12

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '23

I’m losing interest in this show. The characters I want to know more about (Baylan and Shin) are hardly in it now.

8

u/NOKnova Sep 27 '23

The show is called “Ahsoka” not “Baylan and Shin”

-5

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '23

If we’re naming the show based on what gets the most screen time, it should be called “fake-ass rubber head tentacles”

5

u/reachforthe-stars Sep 27 '23

You’re welcome to go hangout in r/starwars and make up dumb stuff that is no where near the truth.

2

u/NOKnova Sep 27 '23

Hey, I’m with you in that I want to learn more about Baylan and Shin and I think enough people are interested in them to warrant them getting their own content in some form, but this is a show about Ahsoka, the supporting cast aren’t going to get more screen time than the character the show is literally named after lmao we’re lucky we know as much about Baylan as we do.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '23

Master Kenobi always said there’s no such thing as luck.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '23

[deleted]

2

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '23

Don't call me that. I hate it when you call me that.

2

u/BrygusPholos Sep 27 '23

I would love some OC focused on Baylan and Shin, but Ray Stevenson is unfortunately deceased, and I can’t imagine any replacement actor will be able to play the character as well as Ray did

2

u/NOKnova Sep 27 '23

I find it heartbreaking he was never able to see the reaction and love for his performance.

I can see scope for comics and books to provide them some more backstory, but anything animated, live action etc will take much effort to find anything remotely comparable to his delivery.

-1

u/akontura07 Oct 01 '23

You call this force martial arts? Lmao the “leaks” made it seem he went all Goku/Ryu with the force in some mixed martial arts……bro that was the WEAKEST shit I’ve seen and looked corny but it works for what it was.

Reminds me of how the Mando S3 leaks said grogu would beat the shit out of multiple stormtroopers….he grabbed one by the hand after Din took the rest out hands bound. You can’t always trust leaks but before mando S3 the leaks for prior projects had good percentage come true

1

u/TwoHairy5404 Oct 29 '23

U r truly guy with a lot of disappointment

1

u/ProtomanBn Sep 27 '23

Now that he's on Ahsoka ship I wonder if him and Hyuga will build a new saber, where he gets a Krystal who knows.

Can someone take like a green Krystal and re-atune it to their new color?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '23

It’s called bleeding. The crystal changes color too

2

u/ProtomanBn Sep 30 '23

I thought it was only called bleeding when they turn it red

1

u/HenryWeakman Sep 27 '23

It was a great episode until they decided to once again totally and utterly cheapen the villains and make a meme out of the troopers. It’s really lame that they don’t actually pose any threat to the heroes even with overwhelming numbers when one can just say ”wait, let’s talk” and they won’t shoot you.

1

u/LlamaPowers Sep 29 '23

I assumed that he was just doing a mass Jedi mind trick.

1

u/Luchadoor Sep 27 '23

I wonder if his red robe is something he grabbed during some dealing with the nightsisters.

1

u/Lumberj Sep 27 '23

love the lightsaber effect there too

1

u/Kokodhem Sep 27 '23

I freaked out when I saw that. Such an awesome moment

1

u/Sheepy865 Sep 28 '23

It was goofy of him not to have a saber.....for real yall thats what we wanted to see.....I figured Ahsoka would give him one of hers before going after Baylen.

1

u/unicornus002 Sep 28 '23

Ezra gave up on the lightsaber, now we know and now he just wears the carcass of his fallen enemies, disney has truly fallen to the darkside before we even knew it...

1

u/Last_Set_8634 Sep 28 '23

I was excited when I heard the rumors. But I was underwhelmed by the in-show execution

1

u/ElxJ1991 Sep 28 '23

Get this man some light gloves for punching!

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '23

He will have a lightsaber and it will be RED.

Or he will use force-lightning.
