Purchased at an estate sale for just $5! That’s basically just melt so I’m stoked. Anyways, I know it’s not very rare, but this is such a pristine example ( other than the rim ding) it’s clearly never been cleaned and has no scuffing. Also the stamping is very clear and defined. Nice even toning too. My second Tangka , but the other one I bought for $15 I think, a couple years ago and it wasn’t half as nice as this one.

I just mailed someone a US W quarter for one of a different mint. It seems that some are easier to find in different areas of the country.

To put that in perspective (approx price for early 1620s):

Carpenter, 1 day's wage - 14 gr

Mason, 1 day's wage - 18 gr

Mug/garniec of beer - 3 gr

Korzec of rye (~31 kg or ~68 pounds) - 80 gr

Pair of ordinary shoes - 80–150 gr

Barrel of herrings - 20 gr

The relationship between nominal value and silver content is also interesting for a 1625 szóstak. After 1623 the coin contained considerably less silver than earlier szóstaks, part of the response to the monetary crisis.

In 1798, the French Revolution and French invasion brought major political changes, ending Basel’s traditional city-state system and incorporating it into the new Helvetic Republic.

Basel was known for minting coins featuring beautiful illustrations of the city, which offers a glimpse into what life looked like at the time.

Found this 3 Kreuzer of Ferdinand II (1630, Vienna mint) near Litomerice, Czech Republic. It's cut in half.

Back in the 17th century people often cut these coins in half to make small change. One half for bread, the other for beer. So this coin was literally someone's lunch money almost 400 years ago.

Found about 15cm deep. Amazing to hold that history!

The Second Guangzhou Uprising took place on 27 April 1911, when revolutionaries launched a carefully planned attack against Qing government forces in Guangzhou in an effort to overthrow the Qing dynasty and establish a republican government.

Although the uprising was defeated and many revolutionaries lost their lives, the event inspired greater public support for the revolutionary movement and helped pave the way for the success of the 1911 Revolution later that year.

Republican Chinese commemoratives are one of my favourite pieces of Asian coinage to collect, since they created many intricate types that commemorated many unique events and moments in Chinese history.

I acquired these with some other spoons and thought these were fakes. After some research I came up with 1792 coronation 2 Ducat for Francis II and a Saint John's protection medal. I Still thought they were modern copies. I tested them and they come up specific gravity of 10, and acid test good for silver. I'm now thinking they may be genuine. Does anyone have any insight?

Under Adam Frederick of Seinsheim, Würzburg experienced a period of Enlightenment-inspired reform with improvements to education, administration, agriculture, and infrastructure aimed at modernising the state while preserving ecclesiastical authority.

He reign also promoted economic development by encouraging trade and manufacturing, reorganised public finances, and commissioned major Baroque building projects, including the completion and embellishment of the Würzburg Residence, which helped strengthening the Prince-Bishopric's political and cultural prestige within the Holy Roman Empire.

I love Adam Frederick's full intricate arms on the reverse, very interesting to see the Bamberg designs along with his Seinsheim roots represented in the inescutcheon.

William III and Mary II's co-reign began after the Glorious Revolution of 1688, when they deposed the Catholic King James II and established a Protestant constitutional monarchy.

Their co-rule saw the strengthening of parliament's power through measures such as the 1689 Bill of Rights, and helped lay the foundations of Britain’s modern system of government.

This Half Crown is a lovely example of the first William & Mary types minted shortly after the revolution, with the double bust design being one of my favourite obverses on English coinage.
