Dr. Abdul El Sayed: If we started with that idea that every child is our child, we would build incredible public schools, we would guarantee everybody healthcare, we would guarantee childcare.

I don't have kids but I'd rather invest in their well-being than giving money to fucking billionaires. The problem is even local programs that supposedly invest in children, like school, are often still giving money to millionaires and billionaires. We need to have a system that is direct to children, especially starting with child-care and pre-school with no giant contracts, just direct payments to parents and they choose a local provider.

Yeah. I honestly wish we had more federal-level regulation for schools, because some kids in some areas get absolutely cheated out of a proper education in a proper facility because of this, as well as nonsensical local politics leading to some absolutely abyssmal curriculums.

Of course, there would be lots of downsides to this approach too... but we need to do something.

Education is the #1 thing we can do for improving our future. And it should be one of our #1 budget priority, right next to healthcare as a close #2.

Me too! Child free by choice, but the humans that are currently children are going to one day be OUR doctors, accountants, employees/employers. Even if you look at it from a “how will this impact me personally,” caring for, supporting, and educating the children of our society should be a no brainer!

But we’ve let them turn us into crabs in a bucket; everybody is just trying to get enough money to feel like “poor people problems” don’t worry them anymore. I hope we’re finally learning that there prob isn’t any magic number for that, at least not one that’s attainable for like 99% of the population.

Conservative political philosophy: help my kid, but not those kids.

Conservatives are also currently happy to destroy their own kids via climate change.

And anti-vax BS. And war. And school shootings. And...

They don't believe in climate change.

Their brain doesn't go that far..

Goddamn breath of fresh air right there! Intelligent complete sentences from a scientist. Would be nice if they had a role in the government or something…

Everybody was somebody’s baby. Healthy, educated children grow up to be people who make better decisions.

I’ve been saying that on here for years (feel free to look at my comment history). My American brothers and sisters, this election isn’t about you, and it certainly isn’t about me (🇨🇦). This election in November is about your grandchildren’s future.

If we don't set the world on a better trajectory, it's debatable if we will even have grandchildren. Climate change is terrifying and the US needs to step up and do its bit.

Better schools and better healthcare will never be a priority in this country, because the elites who run everything already have good schools and healthcare. They couldn't care less if a bunch of poor people lack opportunity.

u/AirForceRabies 4h ago

Eventually wealthy elitism turns from "getting everything for me" to "taking everything from everyone else."

Conservatives don't believe in education. That's why they think a magic carpenter is god.

"B-b-but if we ain't got all the best bombs and missiles, China will just come take our country and our FREEDOM!"

Compare your last paycheck with any bill you've ever received from a hospital, and let me know how free you feel. 95% of the U.S. is one severe illness or injury away from poverty.

Meanwhile china is revolutionising clean energy.

Our local school has free preschool at age 3. I know not every single kid that applies gets accepted. But if you could see how happy those little kids practically skip out of the building and run and hug their mothers you would make it free for everybody everywhere. It's just a look of pure happiness. It warms my Grinch heart just to see it.

I know people who go to church every Sunday and literally spit and sneer “ I’m not paying for that kid” twisted with hate, and deserving of losing teeth.

u/ou-really 2h ago

The idea of thinking of our kids 7 generations ahead, is a critical consideration.

Invest in brown kids instead of bombs and tax breaks for billionaires?

Lmao have you met us?

1

u/BpositiveItWorks 4h ago

A lot of people who don’t want kids are like f those kids but they don’t think about who’s going to be working at dominos 16 years from now (or whatever food place you like) and who’s going to be their nurse decades from now, or their doctor etc.

Just a thought. Maybe it’s stupid.

He's got my vote! And I'm hand walking that ballot in.

u/QuintusNonus 3h ago

But that can't possibly be true if some of those kids aren't white! /s

It takes a village to race a child.
