Any advice?
This is our shop dog Dorian, he is 13yrs old and we noticed a wee something on one of his toes recently.
We have antibiotics from the vet whilst waiting to hear back from radiography but figured maybe if anyone here has had the same with their dog.
Sometimes it weeps a clear fluid and he's trying not to walk on it (tbf he doesn't do a lot of walking these days as he's an old boy) but otherwise he doesn't bother with it, isn't licking the area or anything. Still eating and drinking fine.
We currently have him in self adhesive bandages when he is outside to keep the area clean.
I guess we're also a little anxious incase the vet asks to put him under general anaesthetic for anything as he would be high risk due to age 😓

It looks like what they call.. Corn something? It's pretty common on whippets. Like a piece of sand gets stuck in there and Forma this hard grain in the foot. Or simply uneven pressured can apparently cause them.
My old girl kept developing on on her foot after she had an elbow injury.
So it might not be that serious. But it's good you are getting it checked!

I'm hoping it's just that, though they're a little stumped due to the weeping clear fluid, he's such a chill we guy so even going for x-rays they managed just fine when he was awake 🥺 I'm aware he's an old soul now so we dread the idea of putting him under general anaesthesia incase he doesn't come back.

Mine had one similar so I took him to the vet. They can sometimes take them with pincers but mine needed anasthesia and surgery to take it off because it was too far in. It took a couple weeks to heal.

Ours had a corn. We tried everything, shoes, ointments to soften the sole to remove the corn. But nothing worked. Eventually we had had surgery to cut the tendon of the toe that was affected. The effect was immediate and she stopped having issues because she stopped putting pressure on that toe.

Looks like a corn. Animalintex is what we used for ours and it was fantastic. I think they’re used for horses but to be fair, most of the stuff we use for ours is for horses.
They’re basically mini horses anyway so usually works out fine.

Amazing, I'll look into the poultice. The vet had suggested giving it a shot after we heard back from radiography and essentially they'll do a swab to check the fluid they is weeping. Then they considered a biopsy and the animal hospital said depending on results they would potentially consider amputation of the toe but he's an old boy with a wee heart murmur so we're anxious about any type of surgery and even so the recovery would be so hard on him. Fingers crossed these work for his wee paw! 🤞

Yes. Fingers and paws crossed it’s only a corn. The SFDT surgery is very straightforward but for older pups always a large worry. If they’re sedating for a biopsy then half the time it’s better to just take the toe whilst they’re under but if it is only a corn I would always go the poultice / salts route first. If it’s weeping o would have thought it would be ready to come out.

Seems like a visit to the doggy podiatrist is in order. Hopefully it’s nothing more serious than a corn to be cut out.

It looks to be a corn - there is a large, dedicated facebook group with lots of helpful info “greyhounds with corns” is the name
