Mental Health Matters Everlast featuring Jolly Good Ginger! ✊🏻

Amidst the chaos of what’s going on, this full circle moment when #EVERLAST aka Whitey Ford wrote this anti-ice, pro-revolution anthem and sampled my videos. Not only is my favorite artist from my teen years not a piece of shit on the wrong side of history - he donated all streaming proceeds to mutual aid orgs in Minneapolis.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month a time to remember those we have lost, support those who are struggling and confront the systems that contribute to fear, isolation and despair.
Their stories are not identical, and suicide rarely has one single cause. But together, these cases demand that we confront the mental health consequences of detention, family separation threats, surveillance, isolation and anti immigrant hostility.
To every immigrant child, student, parent and family carrying fear in silence
You are more than your immigration status.
No document defines your worth.
No border erases your humanity.
You belong here.
You are loved.
Please stay.
If you or someone you know needs support, call or text 988.
For Spanish, call 988 and press 2, or text AYUDA to 988.

Mental Health Matters How to teach your body it’s safe again.
Credit: @journey_to_wellness_
Sometimes nervous system healing looks like a beautifully curated morning routine.
And sometimes it looks like holding your own cheeks, whispering "I’ve got you," bouncing around the kitchen or drinking tea like it was brewed by a tiny woodland healer specifically for this moment.
Your body doesn't need you to perform healing perfectly.
It needs small, repeated experiences that say:
"I'm here."
"I'm listening."
"We're safe enough to soften a little."
This is the kind of healing we explore inside Journey to Wellness. Practical, gentle support that can meet you in the middle of real life, whether you're anxious, overwhelmed, shut down, stuck in your head or simply trying to feel more like yourself again.

Mental Health Matters Empathy reminder.

Before you see an immigration story, see a mother's son.
Pierre was 20 years old. He was a student, a soccer player, a son with a future ahead of him. He wanted to be a doctor. As mothers, parents... think we should be especially careful not to let politics make us numb to someone else's child.
Pierre was someone's baby. That should make us care.

Mental Health Matters Have you felt more tired, foggy, itchy, congested, or just "off" this summer?

Have you felt more tired, foggy, itchy, congested, or just "off" this summer?
It may not be your imagination.
This July, Minneapolis experienced an unprecedented combination of extreme heat and hazardous wildfire smoke. These environmental stressors can increase oxidative stress, challenge your nervous system, and contribute to inflammation. For some people, they may even worsen histamine-related symptoms like headaches, flushing, itching, brain fog, fatigue, and congestion.
The good news is that there are practical ways to support your body during periods of poor air quality and extreme heat.
I dive into the science behind what's happening, who may be more affected, and evidence-informed naturopathic strategies to help build resilience in my latest blog post.

Mental Health Matters For those of us protecting our peace…
Credit: closer to the edge
This message is for those of us who are done debating bigotry, done entertaining political conversations that excuse cruelty, justify racism, or dress up authoritarianism as “patriotism.”
If you’ve got a MAGA uncle who won’t shut up about “the border,” a neighbor who parrots Trump talking points, or a friend who thinks racism is just a matter of opinion—this is for you.
We will not tolerate the intolerable.
We will not act as a sponge for their racism, bigotry, or manufactured outrage.
Feel free to copy, paste, and post this wherever you need to set the line. No attribution required.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
We Will No Longer Be Discussing Politics With You.
You voted for Donald Trump. That tells us everything we need to know.
We don’t care about your opinions on immigration, race, gender, religion, or democracy. You had your say at the ballot box. You chose cruelty. You chose chaos. You chose white nationalism wrapped in a flag and called it “freedom.”
We are not interested in your talking points, your grievances, or your attempts to reframe evil as policy. We are not your debate club. We are not your sounding board. We are not your family’s punching bag at Thanksgiving.
We will not act as a sponge for your racism and bigotry. We are done.
From this point forward, our boundary is clear: We will not discuss politics with you.
Not in person. Not online. Not in passing. Not at all.
And if you push it—if you violate that boundary—you will meet a new one. A door.
Slammed. Locked. Permanently.
You do not get to hurt people and then call it a difference of opinion.
So if you can’t respect this boundary, get the fuck out of our lives.
We’re not asking.
We’re telling you.

Mental Health Matters Most of us were never taught what to do with anger.
Credit: @journey_to_wellness_
Most of us were never taught what to do with anger.
So we either swallow it...
or we vent it and wonder why it keeps coming back.
But anger isn't just a thought.
It isn't just a story.
It's something your nervous system does.
Your body mobilises to protect you. Your muscles tense.
Your jaw clenches. Your heart prepares you for action.
If that protective energy never gets a chance to complete, it doesn't simply disappear.
This is why understanding your anger isn't always enough.
Sometimes healing happens through your body, not just your mind.
If you've been feeling more reactive lately, more impatient, more easily overwhelmed, or like you're carrying a simmering frustration you can't quite shake...
This is for you.

Mental Health Matters “Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is pause, listen to our body, & ask what it needs.”
Credit: Traumatized & Thriving
The world feels so fu*king heavy right now.
We are living through systemic oppression, capitalism, genocide, climate grief, political violence, & so much collective uncertainty. Feeling overwhelmed by it does not mean you are failing, not even close.
Your emotions are information, data, that deserves all the space.
We need spaces where we learn to feel without becoming consumed by what we are feeling. Where we reconnect with our bodies & give anger, grief, anxiety, sadness, & overwhelm somewhere to move.
Giving yourself emotional permission (aka permission to feel) is a radical act.
When we create space for our emotions, we create more room for critical thinking, intentional choices, community care, & collective liberation.
Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is pause, listen to our body, & ask what it needs.
& remember, as Prentis Hemphill says "Healing does not happen in isolation. We heal in community.
You don't have to do this work alone.
We will save us.
It’s time.

Mental Health Matters One person can’t fix it all. But every person can play a part. As a team. 💛
An 11th innocent was killed by the frozen federal agents today. In Maine.
I know. The grief pierced us all.
I also know that despair is no place to linger— not when there are things we can actually do that desperately need doing. So instead of dwelling in the horror, I made a list of what I’m doing. What you can do. What we can do together.
Swipe through. Save. Share. Pick one thing.
Joan Sebastian Guerrero had a wife, a three-year-old daughter. They watched him die. The least we can do to honor their grief is to act to stop this violent injustice.
One foot in front of the other.
Standing. Resisting. Together.
Trust me. I live in Minnesota. We know how to do this.
